My Dyson is dead 😭Which new Dyson to buy?

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 03/07/2017 11:01

I loved my DC07 all floors from 2005. It was brilliant, I repaired bits in recent years and it kept going.

But now it's struggling to pick up threads/ fluff/ hair from the carpet so after 12 years it's time to say goodbye.

I am pretty sure I want another Dyson - so which one?
I'm thinking dc41 mk1 all floors or the dc55 total clean (top end of budget really)

Anyone got any advice or recommendations?

yes I really did love my old Dyson

We have just bought this one and it seems great:

www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/home-appliances/floorcare/vacuum-cleaners/dyson-dc40-animal-upright-bagless-vacuum-cleaner-silver-purple-12339430-pdt.html

We had a Miele before this based on recommendations from Mumsnet but we never liked it much!

BloodWorries · 03/07/2017 11:06

I always thought dysons were the best. And they are, the best BAGLESS vac.

If you can manage with a bag, and some vacs that need bags can use reusable bags that you just empty so pretty much the same as bagless anyway then get a Henry. I'm really amazed at how powerful it is. It's so much cheaper than a dyson and I find it easier to push around.

But if you stick with dysons, then I think (if you take the price out of the question) they are all pretty good. I still have mine, along with the dyson and it does it's just. It's a pet model from about 4 years ago, maybe a bit more. Never had a problem with it.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 03/07/2017 11:40

No pets here so don't need an animal version. (Apart from dd's hair shedding!)

I don't like the vacuum cleaners that you pull along, Henry type ones. I find I end up clattering then into walls/ doors as they get dragged along behind me. At least I can see where I'm going with an upright even if my steering is shit

Squirrel, no pets in our house either I just thought that going for that one might mean it was an even more thorough model. I prefer upright ones too.

wowfudge · 03/07/2017 12:41

Buy a Sebo upright. I've never been a particular fan of Dysons, but our bagless vacuum was hacking me off as it needed emptying several times when I was hoovering the whole house and the suction would decrease as you went along. The Sebo we have, the X4 Pet is reasonably light compared to Dysons, goes under beds, etc really easily and has a power button that really gets dirt and dust out of carpets. We don't have pets, I bought that model for the power boost and turbo brush. The place has never looked so clean.

Taylorandnicolesmummy · 03/07/2017 17:35

Hate my new dyson. Will never buy another. Had dysons for 15 years but not impressed at all with the new ones. I have an upright all floors one, I think a dc41. I have to keep taking the cleaner head to properly clean all the dust and hair out otherwise this burns and will eventually stop working. In just over a year im on my 4th cleaner head and have had 2 engineers out.
I'm told by dyson that having clean it in this way is to be expected although I've never had todo this with my previous dysons.

In my opinion they are just not as good as they used to be

Eolian · 03/07/2017 17:36

I thought Dysons were supposed to be good. And then I replaced mh dead Dyson with a Henry. He's much better, bless his cheeky little face.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 03/07/2017 19:59

No Henry's face is a bit too smug. He'd get a kick every time I managed to ram the backs of my legs with him. not at all what I did to the Henry Hoover from my student house

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 03/07/2017 20:01

taylor do you mean you have to clean the spiny brush roll thing? Ours gets a lot of dds hair stuck in it but it's been easy enough to snip out with scissors ans dump in bin. Gross but not too annoying

Loving my V8 Absolute. Got it half price through a friend of a friend who works there Smile

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 03/07/2017 22:28

Ugh. Hate Dysons. Noisy, heavy, plasticky overpriced lumps of junk. Get a Miele.

Clarky14 · 03/07/2017 22:32

My Dyson died to 😕 They don't seem to last long mine was the big ball one I have no gone for a shark one instead apparently there good.

BrieOnAnOatcake · 03/07/2017 22:34

Our Dyson died and we went for a new Miele. It was sooooo much better.

Clarky14 · 03/07/2017 22:36

Miele are good I heard I was looking at the best hoovers 2017

PippaFawcett · 04/07/2017 00:55

I hated our Miele! Was so overrated and I was so disappointed.

Eolian · 04/07/2017 08:29

No Henry's face is a bit too smug.

You can remove the face if you're a heartless mutilator . Grin

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 04/07/2017 08:36

MIL has a Miele - it's pants. And no cheaper than dyson really either.

OP posts:
Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 04/07/2017 08:37

eolian - yeah the face would be removed or drawn on in marker pen! not at all childish

Just as an aside, I recently stuck my 7yo Henry Hoover for sale on Facebook for £40 and had loads of people clambering for it. Got a cheery buyer at my door with the cash within 20mins. So they hold their value if nothing else! (I found the suction and cord length fab, but don't miss heaving it around and up the stairs).

SheGotOffThePlane · 04/07/2017 10:13

My next vacuum will be either a Henry or a Gtech, depending how finances are when my Dyson dies. It's the dc50 and I hate it.
Constantly emptying the cylinder, but then trying to find the blockage and having to take the entire thing apart. Utter pain

Saying that, my dmum has an older, large, heavy Dyson that's bloody brilliant. They've definitely gone downhill over recent years.

PickAChew · 04/07/2017 10:15

After 18 years of dyson, we bought a sebo X4. It's lovely.

TheWeeWitch · 04/07/2017 10:16

We've a 10yr old Henry here. He's still as good as new and yes, he's totally smug about it Wink

Firewall · 04/07/2017 10:19

Call dyson and if you registered your old vacuum, they knock an additional £20 off. I recently got a new cordless and it's a lot better than the gtech my MIL has. It's great for everyday vacuuming which we have to do with toddler around! But I still have the normal one for a weekly hoover though much prefer the cordless!

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 04/07/2017 10:32

Oooh might do that, I probably did register it firewall although goodness knows what details they'd have on file

Our old Henry died (😀). Good - smug little git falling over all the time 😠.

We still have a sodding Henry, brand new on Facebook but cheap was too much to pass on.

Little smug tosser is still falling over and beaming up at me......
