DD & DH are both really bad asthmatics and I can't use those oven cleaner sprays etc

What can I soak all the bits in overnight to get them cleaner?

Biological washing powder or coffee machine cleaner (can't remember it's brand name, it's a powder for cleaning espresso machines).

IMO the oven cleaner from Lakeland Plastics is the best ever, it has no odour.

Tiggatoo · 21/03/2007 19:43

I used some stuff called Astonish the other day which I bought from the supermarket. Magic stuff with a consistency of toothpaste!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/03/2007 19:45

soda crystals. bloody wonderful stuff, can use it all round the home and very cheap!

scatterbrain · 21/03/2007 19:46

Oven Mate is good - comes with huge placcy bag to put shelves in with liquid.

Personally I get a man to conme and do it when dd is oiut !! We have OVENU in our area - costs about £50 and is the business !

LostMe · 21/03/2007 19:46

I've been using Cif Oven Cleaner - the new 'fume free' one. It does have a slight smell admittedly but nothing like the traditional ones. And it does work! The alternative (and highly recommended) is to get a man in to do it for you. I've only done it once as it seemed a bit extravagant but was pregnant at the time and hosting big Xmas dinner - oven in total state. I think it cost about £40 to get double oven & hob looking brand new! Really, really worth it once in a while.

feetheart · 21/03/2007 19:49

Used Oven Pride on my hideously dirty oven the other day. Left it on overnight and washed off loads of horrible black stuff the next morning. Looks great now. And there was hardly any smell.

AitchYouBerk · 21/03/2007 19:51

katymac, do you have a steam cleaner? not only does it mean that you don't need chemicals they are excellent for ovens as well...

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/03/2007 19:52

ovenu man is v.good!

Katymac · 21/03/2007 19:54

Actually Aitch - I do unfortunatley it's in a cupboard under a pile in the shed behind a load of crap......which is harder - cleaning the oven or finding the steam cleaner

I have set up an experiment

Soda crystals
Washing powder
Bicarb

I have smeared some on each (with a bit of water) on the glass & I'll go back & look at it in an hour or so

I wonder which will be any good?

Espresso machine cleaning stuff .

glassslipper · 21/03/2007 21:53

defnitely recommend getting someone in to do it if you can afford it. i do it once a year and then just keep it maintained throughtout the year.

q7 · 21/03/2007 22:06

I bought an oven cleaner from Lakeland which is meant to be excellent and doesn't smell.

However, I - er- haven't actually used it yet!!

thewoodlandfairy · 21/03/2007 22:07

vinegar

chipo · 24/03/2007 20:48

Another vote for oven pride.

Katymac · 24/03/2007 20:50

None of my experiments worked - it's still dirty

Chemicals here I come

OvenPride is king!!!

JanH · 24/03/2007 20:54

Get one of those blokes in like Ovenu - it is expensive but it's so worth it

BrownieBells · 24/03/2007 20:57

Did mine on Friday with Fairy Power Spray - worked a treat.

mumtoaprincess · 24/03/2007 21:02

I use baking soda and vinegar. Wet your oven, sprinkle on baking soda and leave for a few hours. Then spray with white vinegar and leave for a few more hours. My came up lovely. All store cupboard products.

Tinker · 24/03/2007 21:10

Turn the oven up to its hottest setting a put a bowl (ovenproof, of course)of boiled water in. Leave it for 1/2 to 1 hour - then wipe clean teh sides. Really works.

MrsCellophane · 24/03/2007 21:23

I use the local OVENCLEAN franchise. The stuff they use doesn't smell much at all and the removable parts are all taken outside for cleaning in a huge smoking tray. Worth every penny.

helbel3 · 24/03/2007 21:25

I have a self cleaning oven, but didnt realise now the grime is stuck to hard to self clean so I am going to get ovenu in

JackieNo · 24/03/2007 21:34

I used the stuff from Lakeland last week - my oven hadn't been cleaned in, ahem, probably 5 years(), but it dealt with it very effectively, and no fumes. You just paint it on, leave it (I left it for a couple of hours) then wipe it all off, and the gunk comes off with it.

MrsCellophane · 24/03/2007 21:34

I used to feel but then I realised that I would be the proud owner of the cleanest oven on the street.. embrace it!

JanH · 24/03/2007 21:37
