not sure - your insurer?

Saturn74 · 07/03/2007 18:34

insurance company

FillyjonkDOEStellherkidsoff · 07/03/2007 18:35

oh insurance, didn't think of that

its fallen in cos my kids have spent many a happy afternoon splashing in an under-sealed bath though. And we're probably not insured

Ghostbusters?

FillyjonkDOEStellherkidsoff · 07/03/2007 18:40

Fillyjonk · 07/03/2007 18:55

oh ffs, again I say

WHO DO I CALL?

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 18:56

Dammit, Greeny got there first!

Ghostbusters 2?

Sorry, Filly, what a bugger - agree, your insurance company.

Fillyjonk · 07/03/2007 18:58

ok

we don't really do insurance, IYKWIM

the absolute absolute minimum to satisfy the bank-I am assuming we have this

no, this is a credit card job

beckybrastraps · 07/03/2007 19:02

OK. Your whole ceiling? Or just the plaster? If just the plaster then a decorator could probably do it? If it is more structural, then presumably a builder. You will have buildings insurance if you have a mortgage. Check the policy.

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 19:04

Ah.

Er.

Dunno then.

Er.

SherlockLGJ · 07/03/2007 19:05

Bum Greeny beat me to it.

Fillyjonk · 07/03/2007 19:06

well someone less dramatic than me would point out that technically its just about a metre square of plasterboard

does that make a difference?

its in the dining room which is rather important to me, being a noted food fascist and all...

FromGirders · 07/03/2007 19:09

Nearly every mortgage demands you have buildings and structural insurance, so really would be worth looking at your documents. You didn't know that your bath was undersealed, it's accidental damage, you're bound to be covered.

Said the woman who's just got a new bath from her insurance company

massagemum · 07/03/2007 19:10

I would first check to see if you have any insurance - if you have a mortgage then you should have!!

They will probably tell you to go ahead and get quotes from builders to get the job done. Alternatively may have people that they use.

If you do not have insurance then try to find a small building company that will be able to fit you in asap. Get a few quotes or use somebody that has already been used by someone that you know!

beckybrastraps · 07/03/2007 19:11

Call a plasterer then drama queen!

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 19:11

Call your builder and try your insurance (although when it happened to me they covered the items it damaged (kids toys and sofa) rather than the ceiling itself. Get it done asap, Ihad a small bit coming away in one corner builder was coming the next week to repair, one evening I sat down on sofa (luckily on the other side of the room) heard a noise and suddenly the ceiling collapsed into the room straight on top of toy chest (thank god dd was in bed). I was safe as the ceiling was divided into 2 separate parts and it was the other side that went. Made a hell of a mess and scared me stupid.

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 19:11

How much ceiling? Which room?

beckybrastraps · 07/03/2007 19:11

And buy some sealant.

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 19:12

Ah, cross-posted.

Why did it come down?

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 19:13

However I should point out that ours was due to age (dried out plaster in a house over 100years old) rather than accidental damage, so enevitable wear and tear I thinkthey called it and therefore not covered. I don't kniw if that makes a difference.

Fillyjonk · 07/03/2007 19:14

oh my jesus fecking christ

i shall make dp phone someone

actually it looks quite stable but is over the dining table

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 19:17

Has it come clean away or is it hanging? I think it was the weight that caused it to come down iirc

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 19:18

Might just have slipped off a noggin. Is the rest of the ceiling intact? Do the beams feel damp? What room is above it?

Fillyjonk · 07/03/2007 19:21

it is below the bathroom

for the past 2 years it has been dripping and buckling

YES we are eegits I know i know...kind of thought it might go away...[hmmm]

zippitippitoes · 07/03/2007 19:22

if it is plasterboard it should be easy enough to put another bit up

highly recommend you get insurance though
