This has to be the single most boring thread I've ever started..Blush

But someone please tell me how to get grease off the kitchen tiles.

I have tried

Sugar soap
Fairy liquid
Bleach
Brillo pads

And still the tiles are all sticky.

What else can I Tey

I don't have a dish washer...Blush

Can borrow one though I guess. If the cilit bang doesn't work...

I've already tried fairy liquid.

Is there anything else it could be? I mean it's the hob back drop and the cooker hood so I'm assuming it's grease. Except it's sticky....

They don't coat tiles used for back drops with a barrier do they?

I'm not tying to scrub of a protective coating?

Do you have any eucalyptus oil? Its brilliant and getting rid of sticky stuff. I use it all the time to remove the sticky residue left from price tags etc.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 19:43

No I don't. Where would I get it?

Love MN solves anything and everything Smile

use a plastic spoon or knife op and just scrape it off. then elbow grease, scourer and hot soapy water

3luckystars · 26/10/2016 19:45

We need photos

unlucky83 · 26/10/2016 19:45

bicarb of soda - honestly - its a miracle.
Dip a damp cloth in dry bicarb and then wipe off the grease. Cloth will get full of grease so you might want to use rags/disposable ones. Then wash off with washing up liquid..

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 19:48

Photos won't help in afraid. You can't see anything.

The tiles aren't shiney or smooth they are more rustic/stoney looking and they look ok. You can't tell it's sticky by looking. You just feel the stickiness when you touch them.

Swarfega. Rub it in and wipe off with warm damp cloth.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 19:49

Well I have plenty of bicarb Smile may have found three tubs when clearing cupboards

Will grab cloths tomorrow

I had the same is sure when we moved to a new house. Soda crystals all the way!

LuckySantangelo1 · 26/10/2016 19:53

Bicarb and bleach! It's amazing! Transformed my kitchen tiles.

monkeywrench · 26/10/2016 19:54

Gall Soap is what you want, no idea where you would buy it, it is normally used in laundry if that helps in looking for it. it is fucking genius, gets all the sticky fatty stuff off the top if the extractor fan. no good if you are veggie though mind.....

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 19:55

Do you mix together or apply separate? I just bought extra bleach

TyneTeas · 26/10/2016 19:58

Dh got squirty bottles of something yellow called Elbow Geese which shifts most things

ClementineWardrobe · 26/10/2016 20:32

WD40 will lift it straight off. Just remember ventilation and gloves

LBOCS2 · 26/10/2016 20:39

For a metal cooker hood, use baby oil. Weirdly the oil cuts through the grease and leaves it super clean.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 20:43

It's wood.well I think it's wood. Probably coated mdf right something...

unlucky83 · 26/10/2016 21:14

bicarb and bleach you mix together in a paste and it is great for whitening mouldy seals around baths/grouting - but I don't think you need bleach to get rid of sticky -just bicarb...and you could try it now if it is just sticky - I go through rags when I am eg cleaning the top of my kitchen cupboards (grease and dust) every 10 few years...

unlucky83 · 26/10/2016 21:16

Oh - always feel like I need to say - bleach and bicarb will stink but it isn't dangerous.
Whatever you do don't mix bleach and vinegar/lemon juice/acid - cos that is dangerous!

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 21:18

I will remember that thank you Grin

Can't wait till try that on the bath seals if it removes the mould

donajimena · 26/10/2016 21:22

Magic Eraser. Buy cheap as you will use many. But it works. For larger lumps I second the paint scraper

unlucky83 · 26/10/2016 21:22

For seals you make a paste with bicarb and bleach and leave it on for as long as you can - and it is fantastic - found out about it on MN and it transformed my seals...
(Pity it can't renew grout as my shower tiles now need re-grouting as it is all crumbling out and shower is leaking everywhere - need to scrape out the old grout - a really mucky, time consuming job Sad)

dementedma · 26/10/2016 21:24

Steam cleaner worked on ours.

littlewoollypervert · 26/10/2016 21:25

LBOCS2 you are right. OP, wipe them down with fresh oil of some sort, it will dissolve the old sticky oil. Then a cloth with fairy liquid or something similar will remove the new oil.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/10/2016 21:26

That's it I'm so testing that out in my bathroom tomorrow!!!
