Didn't get much response to this in the Products section so hoping I will get more views in here:

I've just had a single oven before but am thinking of getting a double one now (or at least with a seperate grill). I'd love to treat myself to a self-cleaning one but can't find a double oven where the main compartment is self cleaning - does anyone know of one?

If such a thing doesn't exist, would you then go for a normal double oven or a single self-cleaning?

I have heard that most new ovens now have a heating element at the bottom as well (my single oven did) and in that case you can't use the Lakeland liner.....

I am sort of confused because in some of the brochures (Neff, etc) they say only one model is properly self cleaning, the rest have some specially coated insides..... but they mention an "oven cleaning" setting in the spec....anyone have any idea what that is about?

my friend has a swnky pants new kitchen and her oven is self cleaning - it does this by heating th whole oven up to super high temp burning off anything to ash and then you let it cool and sweep out the sooty stuff.

She is hugeawallops loaded though so nothing I could ever own so did not notice the make!

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 11:21

DT can you remember if is it single oven or double?

DimpledThighs · 02/02/2007 11:40

it is a double oven - I will see her at school pick up and can ask her about it if you like. She is hyper organsied and used to be a graphic designer - her kitchen is breathtaking and I know full well she reserached everything throughly so am pretty sure she got herself the very best possible.

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 11:52

That would be great if you can get the brand name - though it sounds like it might be beyond my budget...kitchen units will be from Ikea!

okay - will write it on my hand otherwise I will forget!

Later....

aah found you KTeePee!

I'll text MIL and find out for you. Trouble is she likes her new oven (and kitchen) soooo much she'll probably phone me back and talk about it for an hour!!

Will report back!

Thanks Betty!

You want an oven with Pyrolytic cleaning - they're not all super expensive, I think Neff do them, DeDietrich, Baumatic...double ovens too.

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 12:11

I have been stuck indoors with poorly ds2 all week so not able to do any RL research yet - and builders are starting in a week or so (and I still have to finalise kitchen units and find bathroom fittings!) so I am very grateful for any advice on this.....

BettySpaghetti · 02/02/2007 12:11

Its a Neff one and she loves it

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 12:12

Coco my problem is finding a double oven with pyrolitic cleaning.....

OP posts:
KTeePee · 02/02/2007 12:12

Betty is it a double oven or single?

OP posts:
KTeePee · 02/02/2007 12:17

Ooh Coco, looks like Baumatic might do one - thanks for the tip - just need to find out how many arms and legs it going to cost now....

OP posts:
CocoLoco · 02/02/2007 12:35

Well googling 'pyrolytic double oven' does come up with quite a few. And you know it'll be worth it no matter how much it costs - think of how expensive oven cleaner is. Was gutted I couldn't find a range cooker the right size with pyrolytic cleaning, I would absolutely love to never clean an oven again. Not that I do very often anyway!

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 12:41

Thanks Coco - De Dietrich do one too - you are better at googling than me then! Plus my local appliance place told me they didn't exist - but I've just checked their website and they have both the Baumatic and De Dietrich one listed

The Baumatic is a lot cheaper than the De Dietrich - I haven't had aplliances from either of those two before so anyone got any opinions on them?

Had a De Dietrich dishwasher in my previous house. It was lovely and reliable. I would have liked to have brought it with me, but new house already had integrated one.

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 13:01

Anyone had a Baumatic as they are cheaper [hopeful emoticon]?

hoxtonchick · 02/02/2007 13:03

we have a bog standard baumatic oven that's 5 years old. i clicked on this thread because it needs replacing....

CocoLoco · 02/02/2007 13:06

My non-pyrolytic range cooker is Baumatic, it's fine so far but only had it a few months. DeDietrich look good but I don't know about reliability/quality - I had Smeg appliances in one kitchen and they looked good, but they were rubbish!

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 13:12

No don't want Smeg for that very reason...

Hoxtonchick - I am a bit that your oven needs replacing so soon - even the one we inherited when we moved here has lasted over 7 years (and it's an unheard of brand...)

OP posts:
BettySpaghetti · 02/02/2007 13:34

KTeePee -its a single one

KTeePee · 02/02/2007 13:36

I thought it might be.....

Ooh, ooh, if you are getting a new oven make sure it has an auto-cooking facility, so you can set the timer and leave something in the oven and come home hours later to a huge roast dinner
