Do you regret buying a cordless vacuum cleaner?

I was about to buy the Dyson v6 but there's a big thread on a local FB group this morning saying how awful they are! That they don't pick up big bits of dirt and the charge is about 6 minutes.

Are they awful? Is the G-tech one or the Bosch one better? Are they all just a space-stealer?!

I have the dyson V6 and I love it. So very convenient to use.
It doesn't replace the big dyson but it's so useful for everyday bits.

rollonthesummer · 23/08/2016 21:44

Love the positive comments! Can I ask how long it takes to charge?

NO! Dyson V6 is incredible!

JaneAustinAllegro · 23/08/2016 21:49

v6 is my favourite household item by a country mile. It gets used at least twice daily for a few minutes a time (some fool put dark grey floors in our kitchen and we foolishly added cats, children and crumbs into the equation). It substantially improves my quality of life! Love it.
I was concerned about charge when we first got it but that's because I had it on turbo suck permanently (i did not of course read any instructions before using it).
It's really brilliant.

I have the animal cordless. Brilliant on carpets but absolutely rubbish on my hard floors downstairs. Just pushes big bits around.

I don't rate my Gtech at all and almost never use it. The job takes longer and isn't done as well so I might as well just get the big vacuum out. On hard floors it pushes bits around and doesn't reach the edges. On carpet the roller becomes blocked with hair and it stops picking anything up.

It's bulky to store as well compared to the Dyson.

schbittery · 23/08/2016 22:26

i also use my V6 daily on booat ans its dinw for downstairs. ive never noticed how long it takes to charge as i just put it back in the cradle when done and its always ready when i need it. you need the fluffy hard floor head for wood and laminate and the other one for carpeta. V6 absolute comes with bith of these. you must have the second fluffy head for hard floors. it picks up everything we throw at it (cheerios, crisps, cat food, crumbs etc).

i woulld hazard a guess that the facebook people arent using it properly as i fail to see how anyone could not be impressed. weve got rid off both the miele hoover and the cleaner.

I've had the dyson V8 for about a month now and I love it! I am now a total convert to cordless vacuuming. V8 charge lasts longer ( up to 40 mins) than the V6 but is also more expensive. But I know someone who has had a v6 for a few years and is very happy with that too.

this: it substantially improves my quality of life!

schbittery · 23/08/2016 22:29

sorry mines a V8 not a V6! but i also have a couple of older models (dc33 and dc49?) and even theyd get saved in a fire before DP

woodhill · 23/08/2016 22:31

I love my Dyson cordless. It picks up fine.

verystressedmum · 23/08/2016 22:34

I gave the dyson (can't remember which model) and it's the best thing I've ever bought! On boost the battery lasts 6 minutes but on normal it's much longer which is enough time to do my whole house if I go quickly.
I've got 2 dogs and it copes brilliantly with the hair even on carpets.
I use it everyday, although I bring out the big dyson once a week to do the stairs and landing carpets.

rollonthesummer · 23/08/2016 22:39

I was going to buy this

But I have hard floors as well as carpet (probably 50/50). Do I need the fluffy?! The Fluffy is £400 Confused.

There's no reason for the fluffy to be so expensive - that's crazy.

This one is the same but both has the fluffy head and the carpet head and is much cheaper:
v6 total clean

PacificDogwod · 23/08/2016 22:45

I love, love love our Dyson one (sorry, not sure which model), but it comps with carpets, hard floors, 4 boys and the dog's fluff quite nicely.

The 6 minutes are more than enough for one floor, I then put in on charge, do the bathroom, and then do upstairs.

Best. Household. Gadget. Ever. well, after the washing machine. But it does not hoover

dontcrynow · 23/08/2016 22:46

I'm almost certainly going to get the latest model Dyson V8 but it seems to weigh heavier than the Dyson animal. Does anyone find this a problem?

AppleMagic · 23/08/2016 22:48

I would get one with the fluffy head though. The regular head will struggle to pick u LP raisin size bits on a hard floor.

rollonthesummer · 23/08/2016 23:07

I wonder if I could buy the £209 flexi V6 one and then-if I found that it struggled with hard floors-buy the fluffy head later?!

Pacificdogwood, care to share what your washing machine is?

I'm a cordless Dyson animal lover so think you might be able to point me in the right direction as you're obviously a discerning character - haha!

LucyLocketLostHerPocket · 24/08/2016 08:52

I have the V8, did have a DC59 before which was ok but some things were annoying. The V8 is amazing, everything I disliked about the DC59 has been improved and it's the best vacuum I've ever owned. A friend has a gtech ram which I've tried but it's more like an electric sweeper than a vacuum. The V8 is a lot of money but imo it's worth it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 24/08/2016 09:10

Lucy - what is better about the V8 compared to the DC59 which we have?

nennyrainbow · 24/08/2016 09:12

Dontcrynow I don't find the weight of the V8 a problem but this is my first stick vacuum so I have nothing to compare it with. I previously used a cylinder Dyson DC32 so this is so much lighter and quicker.

The small rotating tool on the V8 is fantastic for mattresses and sofas. We have a dog and cat and it deals with the hair easily. We got the absolute model rather than the animal one as it had more tools and I have no regrets. My only gripe is that the hard floor tool is not good on uneven tiled floors and you can't transfer tools from other Dysons.
