Cleaner tipped dirty mop water all over living room carpet - can't get rid of the stink - help!

For the second time, our cleaner has lost her footing walking through the living room with the mop bucket (there is a step down). This time, it has made the whole room whiff, and I can't get rid of the smell. Like old socks.

I've tried carpet shampoo and Febreze, but nothing has worked.

Any ideas??

EmNetta - our cleaner is very old-style and specifically asked me to buy her a mop and bucket. Personally I hate them, but she's the one doing the cleaning!

She wrote me such an apologetic note today - she is so mortified, poor love. The smell is slowly fading as it dries off; fingers crossed the Zoflora did the trick.

From experience I would say put some white vinegar in a bowl and leave overnight.

Sodium bicarbonate, cheap as chips sprinkle it on leave overnight, ideally get the carpet as dry as you can first. I got a puppy last year when she was house trained, I shampood the carpet with my home machine, thought it was dry, had exactly the same smell, and found this on a puppy forum.You can buy a machine for around the hundred quid. I had a new rug she peed on, cant get the "pee" smell out, local dry cleaners want £70 to clean it, didnt pay that for the rug, waiting for some warm weather it will go outside, get shampood and then the sodium bicarb treament!

I am using vinegar and then baking soda to remove pet urine smell from my carpet. Did you try this?
You first spray the vinegar (white!), blot with kitchen paper, then put baking soda for few hours, then vacuum. Was first doing this for mattress, turned out it works for carpet too - see it here step by step howtocleanstains.com/mattress-cleaning

But it's really bad if the carpet is wool-based - wool gets destroyed if soaked in water
