lol @ a Dyson being snobbery

emmatomATO · 29/12/2006 18:50

mousiemouse, thats so not the case (with me anyway).

I've just learnt, over many years, that sometimes, you do get what you pay for.

Discussing my choice of electrical manufacturer is not my preferred subject to people anyhow, so I can't see how it can be owt to do with snobbery but in this instance I have to say that if you're happy to go with the cheapest option, then be prepared for it to last only a short time. There are exceptions of course when people have had a £20 telly for 60 years etc.

I've laid out a bit more for a dyson but will cost me less over the years as it will last for a lot longer and I can spend my money on the fun things instead of 3 or 4 cheapies.

Now I really am going to stop talking about vacuum cleaners. My life really is more interesting - it really is!

twinsetandpearls · 29/12/2006 18:54

When dysons first came out we used to live next door to someone who loved to leave her dyson in her front garden so we could all lust after it!

Gem13 · 29/12/2006 18:57

Think Miele are better. Bought a cat and dog one after reading the reviews on here when our Dyson gave up. Carpets seem much cleaner.

twinsetandpearls · 29/12/2006 18:58

Hvae to admit I bought my dyson because the miele had sold out and we needed a hoover there and then but I am very happy with my purchase.

ChicPea · 29/12/2006 19:15

Have never bought a dyson as so many friends have slated them but have a sebo and very light and the head twists as an upright so you can get into small corners. Can't do a link but it is a cream and burgundy one which has attachments and I bought it at Peter Jones.

alex8 · 29/12/2006 19:18

no definitely not. Ours had very very poor suction. We ended up taking it to the rubbish dump.

CountessDracula · 29/12/2006 19:19

I didn't like mine

It kept falling apart

Not great suction
VERY messy to empty, I hate the no bag thing

I now have a miele which is infinitely better in every way

CountessDracula · 29/12/2006 19:21

this is my miele

nothercules · 29/12/2006 19:21

Countess, you said I think somewhere else that you had a miele with an attachement for pet hair but it had a filter? Which one is it?

nothercules · 29/12/2006 19:21

posts crossed

CountessDracula · 29/12/2006 19:22

Ah yes
we got the head for dog hair too

CountessDracula · 29/12/2006 19:23

i think it is called a turbo brush or something

Weatherwax · 29/12/2006 19:24

The one I brought 9 years ago was a complete waste of money. I always said that it didn't loose suction because it had hardly any in the first place. It broke down in the first year and was duely sent off to the firm and the list of repairs they made to it was frightening. Still didn't improve matters though. I have a much loved cat and dog now.

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 29/12/2006 19:24

Get a Henry - there are good reasons why they are the vacuum cleaner of choice for cleaners

I love my Henry

nothercules · 29/12/2006 19:25

okay, I don't need to get dog hair off carpets as dogs aren't allowed upstairs. Just need to get hair and muck off laminate and normal carpet hoovering. Do I really need a special pet hoover or will a standard miele or henry do the job?

I would have throught that a normal hoover would do, although I also hoover larger cushions with mine as we have two catsand a dog so we tend to have pet hair everywhere if I don;t keep on top of it,

pianist · 29/12/2006 19:51

I am really pleased with my Dyson - the suction's great! However, the down side is that it's very heavy.

HazelnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 29/12/2006 20:10

I love my Dyson. I have had it now or 2 years and its still like new. I dont find it that heavy either.

NannyL · 30/12/2006 12:48

yes and now the all come with a 5 year garentee

TwoToTango · 30/12/2006 13:06

Another yes here - had Dyson for last 7 years. Good suction, long hose. I've found that if the suction drops off a bit cleaning the filter and emptying the cylinder sorts it out.

Bought a reconditioned DC04 from Ebay nearly 2 years ago for £38 and its still going strong. You can get replacement parts/filters fairly cheap on Ebay as well.

Munz · 30/12/2006 13:06

we got the animal one it was in it's day the top of the range one - I had a hoover upright when we were first married - was naff broke within the year so we agreed to getting a dyson as an investment and it's excellent had it nigh on 3 years and it's still goin strong, deffo recommnend that if u have pets, esp dogs! lol.

SueW · 30/12/2006 13:23

My SIL would say no - she has had 4 or 5 dysons in the time I have had one sebo.

All our parents at school complain about the school henrys when we have to clear up after school parent events. Most opt to bring in their own Dyson/Sebo/Miele.

bewilderbeast · 30/12/2006 14:21

love my dyson and if it breaks its like lego to fix and dyson send out all the bits, my only complaint is that it's a bit heavy but then I've never found a vac I could lift comfortably.
