I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

Ok no. I am doing a bullet journal. Just decided RIGHT THIS SECOND. Omg I am excited. Going to Paperchase today. WOO!

Valentine2 · 04/02/2016 12:13

Too crude for me. EVERNOTE saves my life every other day. 😎

CallieTorres · 04/02/2016 12:22

if you dont want to buy a midori, here are instructions to make your own

complete with inspirational quotations

Gah, if anything would put me right off this, it's the fact that people use it to post inspirational quotations.

LovelyFriend · 04/02/2016 12:42

looks interesting and I like the symbol idea.

But the index is just too much faff and will only really work if your keep the index "perfectly" which I would not do - it would be easier/quicker to simply flick through the book.

I always keep a notebook on the go, usually with lists and then to-do, and a few pages dedicated to "special project" such as committee and PTA/school fair etc

I'm a bit Hmm & Shock that people write down when to do housework Grin

CallieTorres · 04/02/2016 12:46

i'm doing a daily list, and then ticking off when i have done... see if that works

JasperDamerel · 04/02/2016 12:51

Mine has changed my life. If anyone is heading off to buy stationery, I would recommend Rymans. They do fabulous cheap Moleskine copies, which are often on special offer.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 04/02/2016 12:55

ooh, thanks for that Callie - I might now have a piece of leather and some cord making its way to me Smile.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/02/2016 12:58

Hmm, I always buy a largish diary with a lot of blank/squared/lined pages at the back for extra notes. I do my shopping lists, meal plans and plan craft/diy projects in it. I have another notebook for my garden and another one for my writing ideas. I work from home and keep my list of work tasks on my desk and my notebook of how to do work related stuff in my drawer.

Hmm, thinking about it I use a lot of notebooks. Not sure that there is anything to gain by amalgamating them into one.

I have nicked the good habits checklist idea though. My daily categories are: early night, exercise, one hours writing, one hours cleaning. Making those little crosses is surprisingly motivating.

mercifulTehlu · 04/02/2016 13:07

Veritat - I'm with you on the inspirational quotes! They look very pretty in the arty people's bullet journals, but they're not really me...
JasperDamerel - glad yours has been such a help!

Allgunsblazing - I don't seem to get on very well with a rigid routine tbh. I have tried having set days for set tasks, but I just don't stick to it (because, as you say, things crop up)! And no two weeks are quite the same.
So what I'm liking about the way I'm using the bullet journal is that I have my list of jobs that need doing, and each day I look at what's still to do from that list and select which things I'm going to be able to fit in on that day.

I've always been completely disorganised, I'm going to start a Bullet Journal this weekend and see if it cures me Grin
also I have no idea what a filofax is

bigbuttons · 04/02/2016 14:21

This looks horrendously complicated .

I have a huge organised mums calendar on the wall onto which I write everything that needs to be done. Because it is 'in my face' I don't forget anything.
I would forget to open the bullet journal.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/02/2016 14:54

I may have gone a bit OTT in Muji and Paperchase but LOOK! 😍 the pens are erasable with a rubber on the lid :) Paperchase had lovely own-brand Moleskines in a bigger size with a soft cover, which I wanted, but they didn't have any in the large size with squared paper, which I needed, so I got a Moleskine.

I am still going to use my Filofax for appointments, monthly things, family planner type thing, and my BJ will be a place to amalgamate all my lists basically. I might not do the month page thing but will probably do the 6 month overview. I am sick of having lists everywhere, I have bits of paper on the fridge, 2 A4 black notebooks on the go for work, Filofax lists, notes on my phone, scraps of paper lying around the house... Then there's the food diary as well. This will be good :)

I've always had a propensity to write things down though, I keep a Momentous Moments journal, a work journal and a line a day diary at the moment, always kept a diary as a kid and in the past have done positivity journals Grin I am so much more productive when I write things down as opposed to in my phone.

Just watched the video. It's exhausting! all that writing!

Reminds me of the Franklin Covey planners I used to use in the 1990s!

Also, what do you do if you don't have your 'planner' with you? Must you lug it around with you?

Frostycake · 04/02/2016 15:08

MercifulTelhu I'm with you on the inspirational quotes! They look very pretty in the arty people's bullet journals, but they're not really me...

Exactly! Mine would be 'Fuck it' or 'Cant be arsed' Grin

I've got the Evernote App but don't use it. I found it confusing and kept forgetting to use it. A bit like the 'Day Bank' spend logging apps. Great if you remember to use them and don't simply ignore the reminder when it goes off

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/02/2016 15:21

I thought most people carried some kind of notebook/diary/planner around with them? Blush

I had Evernote but I never got into it. I just can't get stuff done if the reminder is on a screen rather than paper for some reason! DH loves it though, also Trello.

BYOSnowman · 04/02/2016 15:22

I'm finding that if I take a photo of the daily planner I can have that as my screen saver and it is always with me without the book.

Only been going a week...

FrostyCake - no more exhausting than writing things on calendars and lots of separate lists in different places! I get that some people prefer to use apps, but I'm trying to spend less time on my phone, not more. I like the permanence of written things, the solidity of a notebook. And the actual physical writing things down helps me to remember them.

BigButtons - it's not horrendously complicated, honest! It's just a notebook with calendar and to-do lists in it, with an index so you can find everything easily. That's all.

Finally bought a notebook so can sort it out tomorrow when dc are at school/nursery. Have been using the bullet point system in my daily lists and loving it.

mercifulTehlu · 04/02/2016 19:48

Ooh - just noticed this thread is on Discussions of the Day and the MN FB feed! . I hope lots more people discover it. I know it doesn't appeal to everyone though. Off to tick off some tasks and start tomorrow's list...

I am definitely giving this a go. I've had a look at the website and watched the youtube video. It actually looks very straightforward. Anyway, I have to do it now - I've ordered a midori traveller notebook Grin.

learnermummy · 04/02/2016 20:40

Love the idea of this. I've ordered a leuchtturm1917 with a pen loop and some erasable pens Smile. I didn't even realise that notebooks with indexes existed! Feeling hopeful that this will help organise me. Think I'm going to print month to views and stick in front 12 pages as a bit of a diary overview as a previous poster suggested.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/02/2016 20:50

Starting out :) am just starting the month with a page like on the left, habit log and must-dos this month, then in to the daily to-dos. Lots of lists before these pages but haven't written them in yet, just got post its reminding me what will go where. I feel great already! :) thanks merciful for the thread.
