People who just get things done and are relentlessly efficient - please explain how you do it

As said above. I am the queen of 'getting round to things' but never actually doing them. I can waste entire days thinking about what needs doing but never actually doing it Confused

If you are efficient and just get on with things how do you do it? What is your thought process? What are you generally like?

I keep thinking of little things..

I always buy and use those colour run preventer sheets now so that I don't have to wait for enough of lights/darks to start as wash, I just shove them in together with the colour sheets to prevent dyeing. I buy them in bulk off eBay and keep them in the laundry cupboard with the powder.

On that note, I buy a lot of household stuff on eBay as it's usually free p&p. if we start to get low on something - kids' vitamins, dog flea stuff, colour run sheets, envelopes etc - I just use the eBay app on my phone to order more before I forget.

I thought I was organised but I am seriously impressed with the ideas here. Thank you all. I am taking notes.

Also, I have lots of hooks in the porch and each dc has a separate drawstring/pe type bag for each activity they do. Anything associated with the activity goes in the bag when it comes out if the wash or is finished with. I even but duplicates if necessary so that each bag is a complete set so there's nothing additional to remember ie black leggings in school pe bag and dance bag (worth £3 from primark in my book). Each evening when I get everything ready for the next day, I just select the right bag to go into school or the car ready for that day's activity. I check contents when putting it away, not before the activity.

OMG I must somehow get this thread to my totally disorganised ex DIL; how anyone could be sooo dopey with only one 8 yr. old I'll never know Grin. The poor child is always late to school with dirty uniform etc.

Whenever I stay there I stress out silently willing her to get out the door and into the car on time, she never does. GD said to me "Why aren't we late when we WALK to school granny???"

Charmin I have sadly found that I need to have duplicate shoes in kit bags too. It does not work for me to have to remember to grab trainers if they are in their school shoes. They have to have home trainers and kit trainers. So we get cheap ones.

CharmingChampignon · 27/01/2016 19:00

Yes, I do duplicate supermarket trainers rather than nerve having the right pair in the right place

Thank you so much to the poster upthread who recommended six weekly meal planning. This is absolutely genius and has revolutionised my life already. GrinFlowers

Love this thread. My problem is my kids toys take up so much room but I feel guilty getting rid of anything and it adds to the general clutter of a small house!
There's a chaotic "feel" to the house when all I want is a peaceful atmosphere.
How do people organise kids things?

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2016 08:02

Get over your reluctance to get rid of atuff I'm afraid

lucysmam · 31/01/2016 12:52

Yep, you hace to be ruthless clearing it out.

I find it's easier to start with broken toys or ones that are missing bits. Then I go through their craft stuff 'cos it's easy to check pens that work or not & recycle forgotten about creations. I relegate stuff to the garage that I think has been forgotten - it gets two months in there and if not asked for it goes to charity or bin depending on the state of it.

Just don't do what I did last night - dd2 asked for the dressing up box. It's one of those 80L coloured plastic ones. I mistook the one I'd packed for the charity shop for dressing up (I wait while they unpack it -it's easier to carry than bags on foot). Living room looks like a badly organised jumble sale today

Zippidydoodah · 31/01/2016 14:54

Lucysmam- bet they're having a ball, though! What a fab idea for a game! Grin

lucysmam · 31/01/2016 15:49

Snow White (aka dd2) is indeed having a ball! Dd1 has decided she's far too grown up for Iggle and Little People though and is now thoroughly engrossed in Minecraft Grin

Fishface77 · 01/02/2016 00:08

Wish it was that easy, stealth!

IguanaTail · 01/02/2016 00:11

You can do an awful lot in the advert breaks!
I email back or respond straight away if it takes under 3 minutes.
