January Fledglings - Resolve to Fly!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2015 18:22

So, here we are at the start of 2016, poised with our control journals and ready to Fly for another year. New and old, all are welcome here, we loosely follow the principles of Flylady to manage our homes and lives, we also chat and lend an ear to whatever life throws at us.

We post links to the Flylady site each day throughout the month, with daily babysteps and missions inside that weeks zone. We also declutter. No links in this post, I'm on my phone and will do some separately, but it's time to get ready for 2016. A big thank you to everyone who has run the thread in 2015 and everyone who has contributed Wine.

We're on the wrong side of town for dark skies, Grey / WhoKnows but the event is being held on the rural side, IYSWIM, so very much fingers crossed for a clear evening.

Friends have not long gone. Have scraped two over-excited boys off the ceiling and dumped them in the bath.

Where's the Wine ?

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/01/2016 20:23

Oh heck. I have found new wool suppliers. I did so well at decluttering my stash too. Must. not. buy. wool.

Have decluttered a small pile of crafting magazines after scanning the patterns that i wanted to keep. Not achieved as much as i would have liked today.

And we are back under the care of CAMHS Hmm

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 21:07

Thanks Mercury re Meerkitten photo

Ellie I don't know why but I thought you were going to announce that you were pregnant when you asked us sit down and prepare for shock! Must be all that love in your life making me think that.

Whoknows thanks re Meerkitten, nice to hear that it brought back memories of your DD when she was younger

Strumpers Chicken, bean and chorizo stew sounds great, is that a recipe that I can find on the internet? DP loves chicken and chorizo but I'm still trying to find the recipe that will convince him about beans going well with them Hmm

Whoknows/Einstein loving the Tupperware discussion, oh the things I can look forward to?

Thanks SC re Meerkitten, I think she is pretty special too! I love your DD changing from happy to suitably unhappy, such a pre/teen thing to do, brings back happy memories of my youth Grin

Thanks Fuzzpig re Meerkitten photo!

StrumpersPlunkett · 06/01/2016 21:11

einstein not sure if camhs is something that worries you you brings you relief. Having had a breakdown and significant mental health team intervention, I wish you well.
We love star gazing here as well a rural area in east anglia means that we often have a great view.

Ta da,s
Washer done
Dishwasher done
Pork chops cooked and cleared up
Tree down and Christmas decorations are in the process of being boxed up

Aside from that...... Very little.

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 21:12

Whoknows I love the idea of a star flyer, even though I have no current chance of winning crazy part of brain starts wondering if I could achieve one full on day of flying to try and win and sort out messy house at the same time

SC gingerbread houses sound great, making a gingerbread house is definitely on my list of things that I must do at some point in life. Sounds so lovely...sigh....

StrumpersPlunkett · 06/01/2016 21:17

dogsbum I fry off chicken thighs on the bone then take them out of the pan, then fry off chorizo with onions finely chopped carrots celery
Empty two random tins of beans (sometimes canelini sometimes butter beans this time was kidney and black eye beans) into the mix, fry off for a bit 5 mins or so. Add 2 tins of to matos chopped up. Put the chicken thighs back in and simmer on the hob for at least an hour.
We eat it with rice or potatoes

StrumpersPlunkett · 06/01/2016 21:17

Ooh yes and I add salt pepper and a teaspoon of paprika when frying off the onions

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 21:19

I'm desperately trying to think if I have done any flying today, scratches head to try and produce list:

2 loads of washing and hung out to dry
Put away previous dry washing
Rinsed out swim wear from swimming today with Meerkitten
Handwashing poo/food stained clothes today (clutching at flying straws here!)
Took down and packed away Christmas decorations and tree today (Meerkitten helped by constantly grabbing lights, throwing up on floor and then falling over from sitting position and bursting into tears Hmm I gave up at that point and waited until DP got home to hold Meerkitten)
Washing up this morning and evening
Small grocery shop on foot x 2
Can't think of anything else that I can even vaguely claim to be flying!

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 21:29

Ooh Strumpers that sounds good, will definitely have to give that a go and try and convert DP to beans. Drooling just thinking about it.... Grin Chicken thighs on the bone are so tasty too, only just realised in the last few years how much more tasty they are than chicken breast. Will report back when I've tried it out next week.... Wink

Slimmingcrackers · 06/01/2016 21:35

[crawls in to thread] [necks bottle of Wine ]

Blue ...just managed to sneak in the gingerbread house disasters activity before the end of twelfth night ...not sure I shall be repeating the experience tbh ...given the post construction tidy up required ... lawd ... the mess ... and whole thing is pretty time consuming.

Baking the pieces is no problem but the construction is tricky .....but at least I now know how to fashion roof supports out of cocktail sticks, chocolate fingers and royal icing... Grin

You did really well to get yours looking so professional Toffee!! We found it really, really difficult!! And was mad to make my first attempt in group setting tbh!!

Other than am and pm volunteering, did the following:

took down tree decorations and removed lights
got dh to help me carry tree in to street for collection
swept and hoovered up a trillion pine needles on ground floor
swept street after it had been collected
quick supermarket shop
dog walks x 1 (dh did other two)
1 load washing
oh and fortnightly ironing lady came and did a panier of ironing and sorted out my cutlery drawers and food storage containers when she ran out of things to do bless her!

Intended to make chicken broth tonight for dd who is still streaming with cold unfortunately but ended up ordering takeaway and we had chicken noodle stir fry instead. So tomorrow's plan is to do some proper cooking from scratch and take dd to doctor's (again).

Congrats on your long ta da lists Grey and Blue!

So sorry you have infection Strumpers take it steady

And hope everyone else who was feeling below par this morning started to feel a bit better as the day went on!

Waves to Einstein Whoknows and everyone else and distributes more Wine around ski chalet naughty corner bar for everyone to imbibe ... .

G'night all!

Greymalkin · 06/01/2016 21:44

Dogs - of course you've been flying today! Plenty on your Ta-da list!

Strumpers - I'm in East Anglia too!

Slimmingcrackers · 06/01/2016 21:46

x posts

Sorry Einstein missed the bit about camhs - hope ok

Dogsbum once you write it down, you can see you have done loads!! [Like you, I too thought gingerbread house making would be lovely ...before I attempted it ... suffice to say I shall be delaying my application to take part in GBBO for another decade or more Grin]

Strumpers going to try that recipe!!

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 22:02

Bless you Grey that is what I want to hear! Grin Wink

SC I remember reading an article in the guardian a few years ago about someone having the romantic idea of creating a gingerbread house with their kids and how the experience fell apart and turned into hell within minutes. I decided never to make one after that but then I was inspired again by you..... now I'm rather unsure again Hmm Grin

Slimmingcrackers · 06/01/2016 22:08
Grin

You've got to do it once Dogs just make sure you gin on tap for afterwards ... .

[points aching stumps in direction of bed]

Slimmingcrackers · 06/01/2016 22:08

have gin on tap - duh ...

Dogsbumhair · 06/01/2016 22:18

That made me chuckle SC will remember to get the gin ready before starting to make the gingerbread house! Grin Lurching now between desire to make gingerbread house and the fear created by the all the negative stories told by real people who've tried/versus the tv chefs who make it sound so magical and wonderful....

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/01/2016 22:23

Evening all,

Not much Flying here again .

It has been a boring day

I have spent far too much time on MN

But I have done 11000 steps on my Fitbit and been to tap class. So not all bad.

Thursday's Links

Babystep 7 - laying out next day's clothes. One for all the family.

Mission - scrub those faucets (or taps if you don't live in America)

Daily Focus - Errand Day.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/01/2016 23:22

Re Camhs - yeah it is for an assessment referal rather than a treatment referral. But camhs around here are not the most respected organisation for good reason. Normally it is fucking camhs Blush hate having to be referred and can't wait to be yet again discharged. But need to forwarn as it all tends to make me a tad grumpy BlushBlush

TheExMotherInLaw · 07/01/2016 00:07

I've managed to keep the kitchen ok, sink clean, bed made, and that's about it. The bath sealant is leaking, so we've decided to get new trim, new tap, build new cupboard, get new carpet, so much time has been spent online 'researching'. We're off out to buy some bits tomorrow. We've broken it down into a few distinct sections.
Most of my decorations are down, will pack them away.. um, Friday, as busy all tomorrow - WI, shopping, then a lecture.
It all seems to fit within the mission and daily focus.

fuzzpig · 07/01/2016 11:35

Hello lovely Fledglings!

I'm back from a nice couple of days at mum's. Had a very gentle trundle round an exhibition, most inspiring, got a whole big home ed project planned now. Having a rest as I'm knackered (DD doesn't sleep well there) but really should be cracking on... once I've faffed about online for a good long time.

Greymalkin · 07/01/2016 14:38

Afternoon all

Einstein - good luck (again) with CAMHS

Fuzz - what was the exhibition?

ExMIL - do you get many younger women at the WI? I ask because my Grandmother-in-law has recently moved to my area and is looking to make some new friends and I thought of the WI, but she'd need me to take her and stay with her (she has dementia). I'm in my 30's - would I stick out like a sore thumb?!

Ta da
Cats, DS and me fed
Wash load on
Beds made x2
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
gathered up random clothes from around the house and put away
Made a whole village layout with Happyland toys with DS (he kept put the people on the train track to be run over Hmm )
Sold a heap of DS's old stuff on Facebook which has now been collected
Decluttered in a kitchen cupboard - got rid of over half my cookbooks that I've had for years but never used. I've got my favourites which I stick to and these are now nicely arranged rather than stuffed in any old how.

To Do
List more of DS's old clothes for sale
Empty one of the book cases in the living room so that I can dust it and the contents (there is a hideous amount of dust that I have been ignoring for far too long)
Stop procrastinating about doing the company accounts and book keeping and just get on with it!

BlueEyeshadow · 07/01/2016 15:54

Was intending to go out and do errands day, but it was hammering with rain all morning and by the time it had calmed down a bit, some work had come in. Managed to get to swimming just about on time, which is always an achievement! Then have to get DS2 straight off to Beavers. And now it's blowing a hoolie, just to add to the fun.

Grey/Strumpers am also in East Anglia.

Allgunsblazing · 07/01/2016 17:30

Been pretty good and kept at it. My DD loves arranging the tupperware, but I've done the nutty thing and said good bye to some...so all good! Sink sparkling!
Keep at it ladies! :)

fuzzpig · 07/01/2016 19:44

Grey it was the Fabric of India one at the V&A. Really lovely. DCs tend to get a bit skittish in places like that (and it was very busy) but they still enjoyed it. We're planning to try making our own fabric with patterns/pictures, right down to dying it ourselves using plants etc. I may live to regret this! :o

Mum also took DD round the shoes exhibit, I could feel myself flagging by then so I sat it out instead. Nice for grandmother and granddaughter to do something together - DD's barely stopped talking about it! :) Mum is VERY excited that DD is so into costume and materials. It skipped a generation with me (I'm far more like my dad in terms of interests - maths etc). :)
