We don't have one .
To get one we wd have to affect the look of the kitchen as we can't buy integrated as kitchen door s wdnt match as our kitchen is not a current design .
Expense .
Lose a cupboard .
Is it worth it / a life changer ?? 😄

Lweji - depends on your dishwasher - I don't have to scrub pots and pans with my Miele it seems to get pretty much anything off including the Devils own - dried on weetabix!

VeryPunny · 20/12/2015 19:26

Think twice about Bosch - my mum's 30 year old one was unbeatable, its replacement was shite and only lasted 3 years. We had another Bosch which was okay, but not really worth the £400 IMO. We have an Electrolux now which is less than 6 months old and already had a heating element replaced.

But yes, utterly invaluable.

DickDewy · 20/12/2015 19:30

Couldn't live without one. When our last one died we replaced it within 24 anxious hours.

They are essential not just for the labour saving or the always tidy factor, but for the fact everything comes out practically autoclave clean.

My IL's didn't used to have one and I used to feel a bit funny about the cleanliness of their plates and cutlery (ridic, I know).

LegoRuinedMyFinances · 20/12/2015 19:33

We've recently got a dishwasher. I never understood the fuss.

I fecking love mine now though.

Although we need more cups/mugs. Just moved so have four but definitely need double that if your using a dishwasher.

Also just cooked a roast - everything has gone in the dishwasher and 10 mins after dinner the place looks clean.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/12/2015 19:36

The builders put Electrolux de in these houses, I hated it and bought a Miele instead.

It had zero capacity and didn't wash well. Sold it on eBay.

orlakielyimnot · 20/12/2015 19:40

For years I said it was pointless. Then dh put his foot down and we got one. I was so wrong and am so glad he persevered!

BooOzMoo · 20/12/2015 19:59

We are a family of 5 and I found I constantly spent time at the kitchen sink!!!! It was 5+ times per day washing up. When we moved it was on the top of my list !!!!
Cannot live without it!!
Be prepared though as DH does not load or unload but he is very very good at piling plates near the dishwasher!!!!

Llouh · 20/12/2015 22:34

I thought they were pointless until we moved into a house with one and I couldn't live without one now.

I haven't washed up for 6 months and it doubles up as a cupboard for dirty plates.

ImtheChristmasCarcass · 20/12/2015 23:14

lack of a dishwasher is a deal breaker for me. I would never live in a house without one. We have a portable one now as we're in an old farmhouse & aren't able to have one built in.

AnyoneButSanta · 20/12/2015 23:18

God I love my dishwasher. Obviously the more people you have in the house the more use they are. But they're so quick and efficient. I have a Bosch, which I love except that it rarely gets things truly cupboard dry.

ABetaDad1 · 20/12/2015 23:19

Would never be without one now.

Briefly lived in a flat between houses that didn't have one and it was like losing a limb.

Now if we could just invent a machine to load and unload the dishwasher that would be great!

ICanSeeForMiles · 20/12/2015 23:19

Love it! I have an open plan kitchen and living room so it's a godsend to load it up and have all dirty crockery out of sight.

NotTheSpiceOfLife · 20/12/2015 23:22

I have found my spiritual home Grin

DP went on at me for ages to get one, I've never had one and didn't see the point. My philosophy was always that the money would be better spent on almost anything else.

Then he bought me one second hand from one of the local FB selling pages for £30. It is probably one of the best things I've ever owned. I would never happily be without one again.

LEDPenguin · 20/12/2015 23:24

The landlord is replacing my kitchen soon, there is going to be a dishwasher and I cannot wait. I hate washing up, I put it off, the dishes pile up and then I want to do it even less.

My dad often says a dishwasher saved his relationship with my mum when they first moved in together, and he's only half joking. Apparently they moved into their first flat together, washed dishes by hand (and argued about whose turn it was) for three weeks. Then dad got fed up, went out and bought a dishwasher from somewhere who could deliver that week, and domestic peace returned :o

M48294Y · 20/12/2015 23:28

Your husband bought you a dishwasher? Confused. Do you leave his dirty crockery and cutlery out for him to hand wash then?

BertieBotts · 20/12/2015 23:31

YES! Holy shit. They are EVERYTHING.

Moving out of house where it was impossible to have one to flat which comes with one ANY DAY NOW. It's been 2.5 years and I missed it EVERY DAY.

Sorry to shout, but, nope, it really is that good. I can't even get too worked up by the fact the model name is "Lady Plus" Hmm

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/12/2015 23:33

Oh my god, I love mine! We had a shitty slimline one for years because that's all we had room for, and I always thought that dishwashers were a bit crap - couldn't fit our biggest plates in, left bits of food on stuff,ALWAYS had to rewash a couple of items. Noisy. In the end we stopped using it.

We had a kitchen extension done last year. We had stayed in a posh-ish holiday apartment in Spain with a full size dishwasher which cleaned and dried everything perfectly so I started to see the advantage of them. I said "if we're going to have a dishwasher in our new kitchen it has to be full size and a decent make like Bosch."

V knowlegeabke bloke in our local appliance place suggested Siemens for our budget - said they had the same quality of wash as Bosch and Miele just less choice of programmes (I only ever use Rinse or Full Wash anyway). Plus Siemens one has some plastic flat parts inside whereas they are metal in the Bosch because people prefer the look of that (why? Doesn't bother me as long as it functions the same.) and Bosch had flashier lights. We went for the less blingy but same efficiency Siemens at a much cheaper price. It has been brilliant. I think I would cry if it broke down. Grin

Kr1stina · 20/12/2015 23:34

We are a family of 6 and I love my dishwasher so much I have two - we are lucky to have plenty space .

Having a second was only about £150 more than having a cupboard , which isn't much when you are installing a new kitchen . I never have dirty dishes on my worktop waiting because the machine is full . The clean dishes live in the wall cupboards above the machines , so easy to unload . Or they just go straight to the table .

I do everything on a 30 minute wash , the only things I wash by hand are large casseroles or anything I burn Blush . I do about two loads a day . I bought machines which are fairly quiet and I installed sound proofing foam on the top of them ( under the worktop, they are integrated ) to deaden the sound .

LittleBearPad · 20/12/2015 23:34

It's now pretty much non-negotiable. No sod it, if is non-negotiable. Why wash up if you don't have to.

NotTheSpiceOfLife · 20/12/2015 23:39

I wasn't the only one to wash up by hand - but I don't let anyone else load the dishwasher. They do it wrong. They can all unload it in my house.

Missingsleepandthecat · 20/12/2015 23:42

Yes,Yes,YES!!
There are 3 of us, well, sometimes 4, and its an absolute lifesaver, particularly with christmas coming up.
Ours is a Beko one, we've had it about a year and it is quite possibly one of the best ones we've had, it shifts everything!

grannycake · 21/12/2015 05:59

I have had my dishwasher for 2 weeks and already I wouldn't be without it. Cannot believe I waited so long

Galmptongirl · 21/12/2015 06:21

Couldn't be with out one. Had a 6 month period without and got very fed up being the one to all the washing up when every body else could swan off!!! Also looks much tidier as we eat in the kitchen.
Our old Bosh eventually broke and because couldn't afford to fit like for like went for the Currys own brand' essentials' as had also read great reviews. It is brilliant and everything super clean. much better than any previous one we've had. Also husband said easier to fit and adjust than many he has fitted. (kitchen fitter!)

ginorwine · 21/12/2015 09:10

I'm the Christmas - how do portable ones work ? Drain etc ? Intresting !

I miss not having one.

Please don't put it on when you go to bed though. FIL works for one of the big manufacturers as an engineer and dishwashers tend to go wrong more than other appliances, so only use when you're about. (I only use washer/dryer when home/awake too. For FIL to advise it is enough for me to listen).
