Me and the Dyson - it's over

I'm fucking through with it. Weighs a ton, elasticated hose thing you need the strength of 10 men to stop it concertina-ing itself back together. Clipping all the attachments in and out that never quite catch first time so it's constantly dismantling itself. I've fucking had enough. Will it die if I throw it down the stairs?

We've tried other cleaners but not a patch on the Dyson for actually getting carpets clean.

Get the wee cordless jobby. It's light and there's no hose to piss you off. I can actually vacuum my stairs now.

Yes but how can I put the existing machine out of my misery? I'd be kicking the fucking thing round the garden right now if it wasn't raining outside.

Freecycle it? Get a Sebo instead Smile makes Dysons look even more crap than I thought they were.

I dropped one down the stairs, once. The brush belt slipped out of place and it left a big blue mark on the front door.

Then lasted 3 more years

Another vote for Sebo here - have had mine for around 20 years -still going strong. Time to bin the Dyson.

Our big old dyson is locked in a cupboard. Bastard thing. It's like lugging rocks round the house trying to vacuum with that thing.

Thing is, I've only got carpet up the stairs, on the landing and in the bedrooms and that's coming out as soon as I can get round to it because I hate carpet. The whole downstairs is tiles, floorboards and laminate. So I hardly need a 10 ton bastard to keep on top of it.

I'm going to repeat the Miele option then. It is compact light and has brushes for carpet (turbo brush) and hard floors.
I think some Machines can go carpet to hard automatically. Like you, I have to climb the stairs to find the carpet so I have to unplug. Then I change the brush head.

Sebo is still bloody heavy, my MIL had one.

Another vote for the cordless Dyson, it has made vacuuming a joy instead of a chore. We only bought it as a supplement to our plug-in Miele, but found we never got the Miele out again.

My cordless dyson is a pile of crap.
My big dyson was crap.
My Miele was crap.

In despair I bought a really cheap vax upright and I bloody love it, it's quite plasticky but it does great

Hadn't finished that. Anyway, it is really good, well though my out design and if it doesn't last years then I could replace it about 6 times over for the price of the dyson.

After 17 years of Dysons, I got a Shark and am very pleased with it. It switches between carpet and hard floors, has the lift off function for staircases etc, and has two headlights that look like evil eyes so it's great for scaring the dogs.
Sometimes you get a free steam cleaner with it too.

We have both a Sebo and a Miele Cat & Dog. The Sebo is 20 years old and was a hand-me-down from out in laws who upgraded. We bought a Dyson to replace it a few years ago but it wasn't a patch on the Sebo and it was so cheaply made. It's brilliant.

The Miele Cat & Dog is also good. It's not as good on carpet as the Sebo, but better on the tile floor, stairs, sofa etc. It's much lighter than the Sebo though

I've just checked because my Sebo x4 pet seems really light and sure enough it is much lighter than the Miele upright cat and dog (about 5lbs lighter).

Dulceetdecorum our Cat & Dog is a cylinder. The upright Miele's are huge!!

Yes, this Miele fan also has a cylinder. It broke recently. I spent £90 and Miele sent a courier, boxed it up, fixed it and returned it two days later. I like the environmental impact of that. The motor went so the replacement has a year guarantee on it again.

I've had it 8 odd years. I hope it does that again at least.

I got a Henry to replace my dyson. - the biggest mistake ever! Henry hoovers are exhausting to use especially on carpet! I wouldn't recommend a pull along Hoover. I've gone back to old dyson and keep Henry as the car Hoover.

Flumplet, if you're struggling with the Henry on carpet, you should look at getting the Airo turbo brush. They're essential if you have carpet

Just joining in the Dyson hate. Min was bloody flimsy for something which cost so much: the effing handle cracked and pinched my hand every time I had to lug the bastarding thing upstairs. The hose split. I had to empty it every five seconds.

Got a Sebo. I wouldn't say I love, as I hate hoovering, but it's a shit-ton better than the dyson.
