How do you stop the bin liner in your wheelie bin from falling in?

Is there something people do to prevent it falling in every time I throw something in. It seems to be OK as it gets fuller. MIL uses sticky tape but I wanted something quicker.

There is such a thing as wheelie bin liners AND people clean their wheelie bins?Shock

Backs away from thread, very slowly.

Pipbin · 18/10/2015 22:38

They keep your bin from getting smelly and dirty and hence much easier to clean when I get round to it.

People clean their wheelie bins? Why would you do that? I don't give a toss how clean or otherwise my bin is.

iwantgin · 18/10/2015 22:38

How does it work when the wagon tips the bin up then?
Does the big liner go in too or does that stay in the dustbin?

I hadn't ever heard of these either.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2015 22:40

Never heard of them. I pressure wash ours occasionally (about once a year).

Pipbin · 18/10/2015 22:44

But when you het wash out your bin, where does all the crud go? Does it end up in a big sludgy mess on the floor? Then what do you do with it?

LettuceLaughton · 18/10/2015 22:45

I don't use them either, life's too short.

How about cutting the top off a large pair of tights to make a massive elastic band type thing?

I'm assuming you're tying up the liner on collection day?

toomuchinternets · 18/10/2015 22:49

@tabularasa, jealous! There's no other company around here to rival them so guess they can afford to charge the big bucks. Sigh.

(Buffy reference name? High five if so. Ignore me if not. Blank slate still cool)

SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 22:49

I use clothes pegs on mine.

Mumsnet is very educational.

Http · 18/10/2015 22:55

SurlyCue that's genius! I'll try that. I knew there would be someone out there who would understand my dustbin woes! Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2015 22:59

It doesn't get full of crud, the insides just get a bit dirty and whiffy. I lie it on it's side on the lawn, stand slightly to the side and away and aim the pressure washer nozzle at the inside, then tip the water out onto the lawn.

SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 23:06

I'm really surprised no-one else has heard of wheelie bin liners! Quite a few of my neighbours use them.

LBOCS2 · 18/10/2015 23:07

I have literally never ever heard of these.

I will tell DH. It sounds like the sort of thing he'd be enthusiastic about.

Mrswinkler · 18/10/2015 23:11

So, a charge for plastic bags was introduced to REDUCE the amount of plastic bags in the world. Hmm.

PinkSquash · 18/10/2015 23:15

I use wheely bin liners to help keep it nice and clean. It saves me having to wash it every few weeks as it sill becomes gross even though everything is bagged.

Pegs are an inspired idea! I shall be able to spot MNers by their bin pegs Grin

tabulahrasa · 18/10/2015 23:28

toomuchinternets, yep buffy themed username and cheap bin wash, lol.

I have no idea whether they have competition or not, a wee man came to my door and offered to wash my bin for £1.50, I nearly bit his arm off, lol. He's been doing it for years now and the price has never gone up.

specialsubject · 19/10/2015 16:49

also puzzled by this, although we have good recycling so generate very little rubbish, and there's no nappies. But even if there are nappies, they have been in an indoor bin liner. Why use another one?

so the wheely bin may not be super clean. OK - try not to fall in.

goodasitgets · 20/10/2015 02:48

imwithspud - yes, that exactly Grin

ridinghighinapril · 20/10/2015 22:37

Never heard of wheelie bin liners.
Never cleaned my wheelie bin.
I see no reason for either.

I dump my rubbish (already in bags) into the wheelie bin. A lorry then tips the contents into itself. A human has no need to see or touch the inside of my bin.

I have enough trouble keeping my home clean and tidy and myself presentable let alone a wheelie bin!

It really doesnt take up much of my time to put a liner in it once a fortnight.

ridinghighinapril · 21/10/2015 12:01

Yes, I agree but it is yet another thing to do, which together with all the other little things adds up to a PITA.

Also, I am too short to see how dirty the bottom of our wheelie bin is and I hold my breath for the split second that it is open so I can be blissfully oblivious to the smell. Once closed, it doesn't smell so it's not a problem (yet).

Anyway, my kids' nappies smell of roses Grin

futureme · 21/10/2015 12:11

Why the expense and the waste of yet another bag? What do you put in your bin that it needs a liner??!

SUrely you're just putting bags or rubbish in....

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 21/10/2015 12:12

Don't use bin liners, and have never cleaned wheelie bin. Why would you?
