I hope he gets it too!!
I had a sol letter today about xmas day.The DS's told the guardian that thy wan to come here and go to their Aunties with Dad and family. Although DS1 wasn't as keen as DS2. Ive discussed it with them and am going to ask for 4pm xmas eve until 3pm xmas day then they can go from here to their Aunties house and i can cook xmas dinner for lunch time (ish!).
Does that sound a fair compromise from me? Obviously not really what i want but i have boxing day anyway!

HazelnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 02/12/2006 21:45

That souinds fair tort.

So they were not really spending xmas with him as such then? I mean how would they know about the their "Aunties" on xmas day unless told?

So their auntie comes before you then, is that what yopur xp1 is trying to say?

That might be worth going to court over. for them to say they want to go to there aunties, then they must have been told, and your xp1 is saying that the auntie comes before you do on xmas day. Grrrrrrrrr what an asshole!!!!!!!

IvortheEngine · 02/12/2006 22:06

luda Sorry that you're not having any luck with cars. They can be very expensive things, can't they? Dd was talking about buying a banger when she's old enough (aged 11yrs now) and I was telling her about the costs involved when you're running a car.

I used to find that right turn a nightmare so I used to go left at the last possible left turn before that junction, and past the churchyard (on your left hand side) and the vets (on the right), straight ahead and then turn right at the T junction, down to the lights and then it was straight on instead. Dh spent 5 mins at the junction you mentioned once.

A lynx, eh? I wouldn't fancy getting out of the car i.e. to open a farm entrance gate if they were around. I think I'll stick with my titchy wichy mouse instead!

ruby Sorry that your fair didn't go as you'd hoped.

Well, on the house sorting side, I did lots and lots of ironing today. The sheets of all the beds were done, about 8 shirts, some tops of mine that I'd forgotten about, they've been in the ironing pile for so long, etc. I really want to get to the bottom of the pile tomorrow. Dd said tonight that I can sell one of her dolls houses, too. That'll be one thing less in the spare bedroom. I should try to do it now, I suppose incase someone would want it as a Christmas present. Dh was a twit today. We needed something for tea tonight and some ham. He went to the butcher and came back with something for tea, but not the ham for sandwiches on Monday. I don't think he'll live that down for a bit. Dd spent ages making Christmas decs today. I think she'll paint them tomorrow. Does anyone know if the salt in the flour, oil, salt and water decs needed to be ground? I spent ages helping her to grind it but please tell me the truth - gently! I got the Christmas boxes down from the attic so I've done a bit more today. I don't know when we'll be getting the tree though. I need to find the Christmas card list. I may have it on the computer, I'll have to check.

Well, I'm off for a sit down. See you tomorrow.

ISawTortoiseKissingSantaClaus · 02/12/2006 22:09

Is that salt dough ivor? Just fine salt i think. Not sure if that means ground or not.I was planning to make some with DC soon.

IvortheEngine · 02/12/2006 22:15

Thanks tortoise. We had rock salt (common or garden) or the really nice (though we hardly ever use salt in our house) Halen Mon (Anglesey salt). As it was crystals we thought we'd better crush or grind it before adding to the mix. From what you say, it was the right thing to do.

ludaloo · 03/12/2006 07:46

morning all!

Ruby....your party's sound cool! my dd1 is 5 and would just love a themed fairy party!!!! What a shame the kiddies weren't into it!

Ivor..your salt dough sounds good, I tried it but ours didn't work properly, they had big bubbles on them and went bendy rather than hard!

Tort...I think your plans for christmas sound more than fair, I really hope you and your boys (and girls) have a great day!

Shouldbe...its a small world isn't it! I live about 25 min drive from Lampeter.

HN...glad you had a good day, and have fun making your cookies today! I might make a cake today, or I could try my new snowflake cookie cutter, I'm just not very good at making cookies though, can't seem to get them right somehow.

Satinshoes....hope you are ok too xx

Have a good day all

Bore da luda. I've just had a feel of the salt dough and it's hard. Dd will be painting them today no doubt. She has made:- several Christmas trees, a star, spelt JESUS out in single letters, made something that's supposed to be Jesus in a crib, a dinosaur (she found the shape and wanted to try it out!) a candle, a candy stick and spelt the initial letter of her grandma's name. Lord knows what it will all look like! Does anyone know what type of paint should be used?

ludaloo · 03/12/2006 07:58

Bore da Ivor!
Do you think I could have your recipie? They sound more successful than mine! It might be something to keep the kids occupied today.
Your dd sounds very creative!!!
I use just normal poster paint, but have heard if you mix pva glue and water, and give it a quick coat with that it is easier to paint.
(I haven't tried that though...I have always wondered if the paint will then stick or not)
Other than that I bet Humbrol type paint would work?

OP posts:
IvortheEngine · 03/12/2006 08:08

Thanks luda. Here's the recipe:-

Salt Dough
300grams (10 1/2 oz) plain flour
300grams (10 1/2 oz)salt (ground up)
200ml (7 fl oz) water
1 teaspoon oil
Put all the ingredients into a bowl and start mixing.
Squeeze it all together to make a ball of dough.
Make the shapes you want, making a hole in them with a cocktail stick before you cook them so that they can be hung on a tree.
Cook for 20 minutes (180 degrees C, 350 degrees F, Gas Mark 4).
Cool on a wire rack before painting.

shouldbedeckingthehalls · 03/12/2006 08:11

Good morning!

Hope you're all well this morning.

I'd love the salt dough recipe too please ivor- we had fun making things a couple of years ago.
Instead of painting the models we coloured the salt dough with food colouring before modelling- way easier than painting. Then just some pva glue to varnish

Dd and I are just about to share a bath- ds just jumped on her v hard on the bed and now she's sore and in need of some comfort from me. Then dh is off to work and the kids and I are going to church for more nativity rehersals....

ludaloo · 03/12/2006 08:11

Diolch Yn Fawr Ivor!!!!

Will have a go today

oooh good tip Shouldbe...thank you. (hope dd is ok!)
Right I had better go clean the kitchen up!!

See you later

OP posts:
IvortheEngine · 03/12/2006 08:16

shouldbe A bath sounds lovely. I might treat myself to one tonight.

luda Croeso. Ds and dd (both now up and eating brekkie) were just consulted on whether I should say "Ti'n croeso" or "Chi'n croeso" or just "Croeso". Ds said just "Croeso". It means (you're) welcome.

shouldbedeckingthehalls · 03/12/2006 09:02

Thanks Ivor- will try to give the salt dough a go. Dd also wants to make Hama bead keyrings for presents so we'll have to see which activity wins this afternoon.

The food colouring gives fairly subdued colours once cooked but we found it v effective.

My bath wasn't the most relaxing with dd in too esp as she wanted to wash my hair (my eyes will be watering all day now from the amount of shampoo that went in them!) She's fine now- the trauma of being jumped on is forgotten (for the time being....)

Only a little laundry to do today- dd's school uniform hasn't been through yet. The rest will have to wait....

satinshoes · 03/12/2006 09:45

Morning all

Found another flea last night. First one in 5 days which is very disheartening. Cat is due for next dose of drops today though so hopefully that will kill any last ones

Because of said flea I have hoovered everywhere upstairs and changed all the bedding again.

Bit tired as up most of night again. Thought it might have been night as had a few hours of v close contractions....then nothing...grr

Done a bit of filing and DH off out to supermarket with DD later so hopefully a rest will help this awful cough i have.

Have a good day all.

ludaloo · 03/12/2006 09:53

Hi satin....have you tried the flea spray for carpets?
we had this problem last summer. I had to spray each room (spraying along skirting boards is supposed to really help)
Then you leave the room locked for an hour, then vacum like mad.

It really is horrid...poor you!

OP posts:
ludaloo · 03/12/2006 09:53

p.s...I got the spray at the vets

OP posts:

satinshoes · 03/12/2006 13:09

Thanks ludaloo. Yes we have sprayed the whole house (some areas twice)with spray from vets. Main problem was we got cheapo flea drops from supermarket and had to wait until today until we could re-apply superduper vet drops to cat. Hoping that does the trick....

DimpledThighs · 03/12/2006 13:52

oh satinshoes if it is any consolation I went through exactly the same thing 2yrs ago.

Got cheap drops from wilkinsons as didn't know the difference - house infested before I realised what was going on.

Got spray from the house and sprayed and hoovered all carpets and soft furnishings. It worked even though I thought it wouldn't as I am a little slapdash. They were gone by christmas. Now flea free with a regular dose of frontline (use the stickers in teh pack for my diary.) I did have to go out and buy a dyson as my cheapo hoover couldn't cope. But take heart - it does work, they do go and it just gets stored in teh back of your mind as one of those OMG moments.

good luck!

DimpledThighs · 03/12/2006 13:54

btw I think the stuff works by making the fleas infertile so even when you are done you will see the odd one or two, but they are firing blanks so when they die they will not leave behind and little ones - you break the life cycle. seeing the odd flea doesn't mean it hasn't worked.

satinshoes · 03/12/2006 15:18

thanks dimpledthighs. It is frontline we have put on the cat today, and i have 6 months worth. the spray was from the vet too and says it kills all fleas for 12 months so i'm sure we are just seeing a few stragglers.

i have in my head though that the baby cant come until we are flea-free

satinshoes · 03/12/2006 15:19

btw, ruby - is it one of those toy boxes with 6 boxes? we have one of them - a total godsend!
