August Birthdays and the Fledglings are a nattering

Ok so here is the August thread.

Another chat thread.

Going to be completely half arsed with this.

launch pad from here is all the linky poos which few of us look at anyway
But we are following Fly lady principles. sort of 15 mins decluttering, babysteps and all that.

Oh we are a long running thread, we may seem clicky but we have been around the wrong side of half a decade. We do welcome newbies, and some of the flock joined us only recently.

If you have any questions on the fly lady system do ask and we will try to answer them. Hopefully back to normal service and regular linkies in September after the hols.

So nerh...

Pastry resting in the fridge, I am about to go out and break something as ds has decided we are going for a roller blade. I haven't roller bladed since before I went to uni, I suspect this is not going to end well... Hmm

CantSee4Looking · 18/08/2015 12:10

School clothes lists tend to help with what they need toffee as there are different rules for different schools. Ds' school has a very comprehensive list on their website.

threeislovely · 18/08/2015 15:04

Good luck Cantsee. Toffee you have inspired me to bake.

We're having a moochy day. All the men in my life had a haircut this morning - took forever even tho we were early! Then we got new parking permits, took a jacket back where the zip had broken and got some nice lights for the conservatory.

Now DH is putting together our new patio table - I am very excited about the prospect of sitting without fear of collapse!

To Dos
Pack beach bags away
Ironing
Baking
Hoover hall and downstairs
Washing
Drying
Clear kitchen table why does everyone else think this is a dumping ground?

Greymalkin · 18/08/2015 15:42

For those of you with lots of clothes to be labelled, I have seen a rather impressive looking gizmo on www.stamptastic.co.uk

It can label clothes, shoes, stationary, books and almost everything else. I'm thinking of getting one for DS

There are lots of positive reviews online and a product demonstration video.

I'm quite tempted...

CantSee4Looking · 18/08/2015 20:12

After ds tried to kill me, we went out. I came back to the craziness that is mn atm. tbh have done fuck all flying.

fuzzpig · 18/08/2015 22:38

I have done fuck all too. Feel kind of vindicated now though, since I saw the GP today about the increased dizziness, and turns out I have labyrinthitis. I believe the young folk would say "FML"? :o

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2015 23:26

You are definitely excused from Flying today then Fuzzpig. I don't know much about labyrinthitis, are there any treatments?

Grey - thanks for the stamp suggestion, it does look good, but a bit late for my DCs now, it wouldn't be cool at their age (although I suspect DD would love one for just playing with, I might get one for her Christmas stocking). I think you would need some labels as well, we have used masses of the stiicky label types for water bottles, lunchboxes, toys, shin pads, waterproofs and wellies etc over the years. A good tip is to do surname only if you have more than one DC, then you don't get "I'm not using that water bottles, it's HERS> in a disgusted tone. Only helpful if you don't have a popular surname though (my DCs have an unusual one).

Toffee - on our shopping list for DS going into Year 7 we have had a fairly strict list of PE kit from the school, if it's not on the website maybe try ringing the office. So, we have had to get polo shirt, sweatshirt, rugby shirt, shorts, football socks, white socks, trainers, football boots, shin pads and jogging bottoms. Also basic stationery items and a specified scientific calculator. For DD in primary, it's basic PE kit and uniform plus lunchbox and water bottle, plus pencil case with pen, pencil, rubber, and sharpener from Year 5.

Three - yes to decent patio furniture. When we moved here we had a tiny patio so we just had one of those metal cafe sets, looked nice but not terribly comfy and wobbled on the uneven slabs. We had a bigger patio built a few years ago and invested in a full size wooden table and chairs, which have been worth every penny, we use them all the time.

Well, I got dressed before breakfast (unheard of for me, I never, ever do that normally) and implemented my full term time morning routine (haven't done that for a long time either, certainly not in the latter part of last term. Just as well, as it was a busy day and haven't managed much else Flying-wise. Dropped DCs off at separate clubs, went to work, stayed for 2 hours then had to whizz off to my other job for a lunchtime meeting, then back to the first one again, before picking DCs up at 4.

After tea DD and I went for a tryout session at the local archery club, I think someone on here is in an archery club, was it you Grey? We enjoyed it, but can't do their induction course as we will be away. I think I am going to have to learn left handed if I do it again, because my distance vision with my right eye is not really clear enough (due to being middle aged I have one contact lens for close and one for far sight, which is great for everyday but as I found tonight, the wrong way round for archery). I also have a tendency to tennis elbow in my right arm, so left handed is a good bet from that point of view too.

Managed half an hour at the allotment after that, depressing that it was sufficiently dark at 8.30 that I had to give up and go home. Then just messing about with the DCs and MNing for the last hour or so. Off to bed now, night all.

fuzzpig · 18/08/2015 23:50

Thanks Who, I'd not really known anything about it but apparently it'll get better really quickly. GP gave me antibiotics as well as another medication, but I've just googled read that they aren't usually necessary as it's normally viral. Might start a thread (my go-to response to anything these days :o) as I don't want to take ABs if unnecessary!

I am immensely Envy of the archery! I love it, I wish there was a club round here.

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 04:36

Thought I'd better log on and change password having heard about the hacking, has anyone on here been hacked/affected that they know of?

Thanks Toffee and Whoknows for reassuring me that cleaning fantasies/obsessiveness is common post baby, feel slightly less mental now!

Who could that be connecting old and new names and fecking up totally...

....slopes off to the dog basket with tail between legs, bangs head against side of basket trying to knock some sense into it and finally hides head under pillow whimpering and exclaiming Doh!....Blush......

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 04:54

Can't resist posting a photo of Meerkitten now that she finally has some chub on her! Can anyone spot the mild obsession with pink that DPs family have! I've decided I need to get over myself about pink actually as it is just a colour and respecting family interest and gifts is more important as I want Meerkitten to have a good connection with DPs family, who are local and lovely and if I'm really honest I think she looks dead cute even in pink

August Birthdays and the Fledglings are a nattering
Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 05:16

DP did take Meerkitten out again on Saturday but I didn't get as much cleaning done as the week before, maybe talking about my cleaning fantasies helped me to let them go a bit... Blush

Instead I enjoyed being able to do one thing at a time at an enjoyably slow pace knowing that I wouldn't be interrupted. I think it was Toffee who mentioned the whole uninterrupted thing in relation to wanting to do bathroom cleaning post baby and it really resonated. Every job that I try to do now I'm trying to do really quickly knowing that I'm likely to be needed/interrupted at any moment.

So I didn't do anything earth shattering but I enjoyed getting to make a loaf of bread, I used to make all our bread before Meerkitten arrived so that was a nice treat, I find kneading very soothing and relaxing. I did a bit of low key cleaning and then strolled to local shops to pick up a few items, it was nice and chilled.

On Sunday DP must have decided he couldn't take the state of the kitchen floor anymore and he had a bit of cleaning session but unfortunately he got a bit carried away with use of products so I had to take Meerkitten out to escape the fumes, so I had a lovely couple of hours in the botanical gardens, which are nearby.

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 05:20

Just realised that my last post let my dirty little secret out..... I have a DP that cleans.... scandal!

Hopefully that confession wont lead to me being throw out of the gang....Sad

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 05:24

I'm enjoying the school preparation talk, especially PE kits and labelling clothes. It's taking me back to memories of mum making us sew labels into our school clothes, I can still visualise the terrible stitching in clashing thread colours now! Blush

CantSee4Looking · 19/08/2015 06:38

no you can stay but we will be very Envy

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 06:59

That made me chuckle Can'tSee. Nice to see someone else up, how was roller blading?

elliepac · 19/08/2015 07:07

Morning all. Just logged on to change passwords after all the terrible hacking business. Have had a quick read of posts and see that dogsbum has a DP that cleans...what is your trickGrin. And whoknows is taking up archery, that is something that the new elliepac DP and i are looking into starting together so i am jealous.

Big day here today. This week DP has moved back to this country and is now living remarkably close to me. Today he is meeting the DC's (we had planned last time he was here but work, he is army officer, got in the way). This excites me muchly but also scares me muchly. As a couple we are awesome but we haven't added children into the mix as yet. I met his when i went to Germany (his DS is moving here with him) and now he is meeting mine. DC's are excited but he is so different to their dad (which in itself gives a handy ckue as to why that marriage failedGrin) although in my opinion he is way lovelier than their dad. I am super nervous. Plus it is GCSE results tomorrow which means i have the usual fear. Therefore i did not sleep well last night????. Wish me luck!

CantSee4Looking · 19/08/2015 07:50

Grin good luck tomo Ellie!

Yes I survived the roller blading. In no hurry to repeat the experience, which of course means ds is dragging me out again tomo, hmm actually make that later. Lovely sunrise here this morning.

Dogsbumhair · 19/08/2015 08:24

I'm afraid I can't take any credit in terms of training/tricks Elliepac, DP was already clean and tidy when I met him, has been since a child apparently, he is a twin and his twin sister is the opposite according to the family.

The only credit I can claim is the fact that I chose him Wink

Sounds like you've got a nerve wracking few days between GCSEs and introducing DCs to DP, good luck with it all and I hope you get some sleep soon Smile

Glad to hear that you survived roller blading Can'tsee, any enjoyment? Or all pain?

elliepac · 19/08/2015 08:26

Clearly you are a very discerning lady dogsbum.Smile

CarpeJugulum · 19/08/2015 08:32

Found you all again!

I haven't read the thread in full yet, but wanted to say I'll be joining you again properly as from 7th September but will be nipping in and out this month as. I've finally moved! Yay! And am now trying to make a home out of boxes. And there are MANY boxes Sad but DBIL & DPIL are close at hand now and DS starts school so hopefully I'll be making friends as well.

Not doing a great deal at the moment though as I've got pain in my breast, round where I have a previously benign lump so am more worried about it! Got a hospital referral on Monday and am blatantly terrified as I have a nagging doubt it is something and not nothing.

Anyway, power of 3.
Up, shower and dress (1/3 done!)
Put on washing
Try not to kill DS (school can't come fast enough!)

Hope everyone is well, and I'll read thread later, but wanted to say hello!

elliepac · 19/08/2015 09:34

How lovely to see you carpe. Well done on getting moved and it is great to have more support nearby. Understandably worrying about the lump, I could say try not to worry until you have seen the doctor but I expect that is impossible. I know there is nothing I can do but know I am thinking of you and if you need a rant/chat you know where we areSmileThanks

NickNacks · 19/08/2015 09:41

Thanks for the lovely welcome back.

I didn't come on yesterday, feeling a bit Confused by all this hacking business. Anywho...

I'm still working today (5 children) and tomorrow (6 children) so main priority is caring, feeding and entertaining but I have a very short to do list.

Fold dry clothes and put another wash on
Pull out a few camping bits
Keep on top of the tidying
Mop kitchen whilst baby is napping
Dye hair tonight

A couple of years ago we hired a skip and had a big clear out. It was so great in many ways. Clutter has creep back in as it does and I'm considering it again. Any thoughts?

It's so lovely to see familiar names again! Life has got in the way recently but I hope you don't mind me coming back :-)

elliepac · 19/08/2015 10:46

It must be a week for coming back...clearly my scroll through was so quick I completely missed nicknacks. Massive fledgling waves to you my lovelySmile.

CantSee4Looking · 19/08/2015 11:01

Love having the oldies back.

elliepac · 19/08/2015 11:02

Me too.....warms the cockles of my fledgling heartGrin
