Dh keeps ruining the pillowcases

With his scummy greasy head. Drives me mad. Apart from changing from light to dark bedding, is there any solution? Have put them on a hot wash with Vanish Gold.

I have the same issue to deal with. Switched to dark, but it does still show. Several sets of pillow cases. Wash with Biotex.

Get pillowcases that have an 'obvious' side to sleep on which is different to the side that shows when the bed is made stops you having to see them so much. So one side would have buttons, for example, or one side would be plain cotton and the other side a different or textured material - you sleep on the plain cotton side.

Try washing with soda crystals or bicarb/vinegar. Or soak in bio lanudry powder. All 3 works very well, my DH is bald, and I have a similar problem. But I don't use a pillow and we have seperate bedrooms, so it doesn't bother me much ;

Buy new pillowcases and get him to wash his head?

Can he shower before bed and wash his hair with a medicated shampoo to get rid of the hair products, or use a flannel and a face wash on his scalp if he is bald? Then use a towel on the pillow which can go in the washing machine daily.

Due to medication, my DF sweats heavily through his hair at night, he washes his hair every morning and uses a clean towel on the pillow every night.

And use pillow protectors. Primark sell great cheap quilted ones. I'm the pillow ruiner here (rose hip face oil). We have big posh pillows for with covers that match the bedding, used only for sitting up and reading and tea drinking but sleep on flattish cotton ones- at least my orange slick is invisible in the day. Sunlight really does nuke 'em.

Pillow protectors do help. And using 100% cotton pillow cases, they wash better.

I have this theory inspired by the oil cleaning method. I got my DH to use face oil instead of face cream and he no longer uses soap on his face, just a flannel. Pillow cases are less greasy now, and his bald head is less shiny. If you keep stripping the skin/hair of oil, the skin/hair follicles will just produce more oil to make up for it. As a society we are obsessed with washing off any oilyness/greasyness, but it seems the result is the opposite. Don't stop the body doing what is needs to do. By all means wash to get clean, but go easy on the soap.

We no longer have any soap/shampoo/bodywash with SLS, which is the harshest foaming ingredient, but it's very cheap, so many soaps contain it. I buy Faith in Nature and Green People, both SLS-free. Worth a try?

Thanks for replies. Dh has very little hair, but also has eczema and the less he washes his head the better the eczema. Thinking of darker pillow case for him at night, the only problem being is we need cotton bedding, and often they only come in white or light colours (this is from years of trying to find cotton only bedding). I do wish he would wash his hair more

I get cotton bedding from Amazon, great choice of colours. I have often bought Homescapes.

Maybe your DH needs to use a different shampoo? Does he use one for eczema?

I have this problem too. We both have 2 pillows with protectors and DH has a white cotton pillowcase for sleeping on which I wash twice as often as the rest of the white dress bedlinen, the pillowcases from those aren't slept on at all so always look perfect. I use soda crystals and this seems to do the trick on any marks. In the past I did try coloured pillowcases but found they actually looked worse and were harder to treat.

I like this thread, I feel in good company with our yellowy pillowcases. I'd thought it was just us.

Pillow protectors from dunelm, 100% cotton sheets and covers from IKEA.

This might sound nuts but the matching pillows aren't to be used for sleeping on, just for making the bed. The sleeping on pillows are underneath so they can be turned over for sleep and turned back again the next day when dressing the bed. I just use plain cotton pillowcases for those ones.

Seems to work quite well.

I have this problem. DH has very little hair and showers before bed. He really is clean. But the pillows turn yellow. Apart from washing pillowcases daily I don't see what else I can do. I chuck out the yellow ones and buy new. Also the mattress protector is yellow now. N
Must be a yellow oil he is leaking. Yuck.

Lots of places do 100% cotton bedding, including all sorts of colours - over the years, I've bought from Ikea, Debenhams, BHS, John Lewis, Lidl, Dunelm, White Company and a couple of other places online. (I usually get stuff in sales.)

However, I think the most permanent solution will be decapitation.

oil from the skin starts out clear, but oxidises over time to yellow. It's annoying when you take things out of the washer and they look perfectly clean, then turn yellow, esp. round collars, in the wardrobe. For pure cotton, a high temperature wash, and laundry spray on collars, or washing soda crystals (which cut through grease and oil) in the wash will deal with it, but it is much harder to deal with once it has had time to oxidise.

The same things happen with skin lard moisturiser and sun creams, which are greasy. On non-white fabrics you may never notice it.

Tell him to get a wash.

I have same issue with dp. When sleeping, i use the 2 patterned pillowcase that match duvet and he uses the plain white. During day bed made as normal so plain pillowcases hidden under patterened ones. I just replace plain ones every so often when washing them no longer helps. White cotton ones only £4 for 2 in matalan. Not worth me buying expensive ones as still end up orange anyway!

You can get pillows with air vents in, we got ours from dunelm.

Might have to look at those Notso, as new pillows are a thing on the list. Bedding out in the sunshine today (yes we have sun). I have a 12 yr old ds who is starting to become a greasy teenager, luckily he prefers bright green bedding, which hides stains amazingly.
