Do you have a toilet brush?

GermanHouseCat · 13/07/2015 09:57

My cleaner insists that I have a toilet brush - a proper old fashioned one that always seem to get filthy.

I bought what I thought was a compromise in one of those toilet duck ones that have disposable heads, but she refuses to use it.

What does everyone else do? I was never brought up wirh one, and previous cleaners have put rubber gloves on and got stuck in.

Yes we have over a 100 toilet brushesGrin live in an hotel

MrsJorahMormont · 13/07/2015 21:32

Yes of course we have a loo brush - one in each bathroom. No attempts by DC to eat them, they get disinfected regularly.

I quite like the look of that Loogun thing :o

gointothewoods · 13/07/2015 21:33

We have a biocycle so can't use bleach or most common cleaning products in the loo.
What would the anti brush brigade suggest I use??

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2015 21:33

That loogun thing just looks unnecessary and pointless when you can get a proper brush for 99p.

thatsn0tmyname · 13/07/2015 21:34

I hate loo brushes, they're a toddler magnet. We have a fresh brush disposable one that sits high up on the windowsill.

Passmethecrisps · 13/07/2015 21:38

Honestly honestly my toddler cohld not give two fucks about the loo brush.

IKEA do them dead cheap.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/07/2015 21:52

My DCs never showed the slightest interest in the loo brush either.

TattyMonkey · 13/07/2015 22:05

I've actually contributed to the loogun kickstarter thing and hope it takes off as I definitely want one! Grin I agree that short of a new invention like that, loo brushes are a necessary evil! I keep mine on the windowsill forever in fear that my kid or another toddler will play with it!

Have a think about it, if you needed to scrub the bog (which all bogs need), would you rather put your hand down or use a brush? You can get toilet brushes with a holder that covers the brush up..

Kaekae · 13/07/2015 22:31

A big fat no to putting a loo brush in the dishwasher....that is absolutely vile!

rabbit123 · 13/07/2015 22:38

Bleach addicts, read here.

"Bleach has the same effectivness as water when it comes to cleaning dirt from surfaces"

LuisSuarezTeeth · 13/07/2015 22:38

No advertising!

Good quality loo brush and put in dishwasher every week. Job done Grin

rabbit123 · 13/07/2015 22:39

JayTay, you've got it spot on. Bleach disinfects, it doesn't clean.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 13/07/2015 22:41

I just inspected it, theres a few pubes on it actually but I'm not picking those out

Grin
Lweji · 13/07/2015 22:43

I have one (actually two, but only use one) and use the flush to clean it after use.

Thelastthneed · 14/07/2015 01:16

Our loo always looks much cleaner/shinier after bleach

No way would I put a loo brush in the dishwasher. I hope none of my friends do that!!!!!! I sometimes find the odd food particle on plates.

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/07/2015 04:42

I'm fully in the loo brush camp (still don't know what the antis expect their guests to do), but putting a loo brush in the dishwasher is just beyond the pale.

Food scraps do sometimes survive the wash, ergo poo might too. Sterilised poo is still poo.

SophiePendragon · 14/07/2015 09:37

Yes, we have one but it isn't the normal sort. I buy those tiny dish brushes with an angled head and keep one in an old melamine beaker on a shelf in the bathroom.

Usually I will wipe off anything ds leaves behind with a wodge of loo roll, but when I have to use toilet cleaner due to the limescale building up, I use the tiny brush to give it the once over.

Sooooo much nicer than the huge great things with bristles all over that have to go on the floor in reach of a nosey toddler. And a lot cheaper/easier to keep a stock of and replace.

Thankfully I don't have any adults here who leave marks in the toilet and rarely have any visitors...only family and when I was growing up, I don't think anyone ever managed to leave anything on the toilet either.

Maybe we just sit in a particularly fortunate position or something Smile

It's not that hard not to leave stains all over the loo. I have never understood the idea of having to use a toilet brush every time you go.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/07/2015 09:39

Urghhhh! HOW is nicer to have loo brush on a shelf rather than by the loo?Confused ( apart from keeping it out of the way of a small child)

SophiePendragon · 14/07/2015 09:49

Because it's tiny, it's easy to access but high up out of the way (not among cosmetics and so on) and it can be washed in the sink or taken outside to wash or whatever, without spraying stuff everywhere - the cup is also a lot more cleanable than most loo brush containers.

Picture just for you Grin

Do you have a toilet brush?
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/07/2015 09:50

Washed in the sink???Shock

SophiePendragon · 14/07/2015 09:52

Also means the floor by the loo is clear (apart from boxes of tiles I haven't put up yet..ahem) and it doesn't get mixed up in the inevitable spills and splashes around that area. So you dont have to move it when you clean the floor or clean under it or anything.

I don't understand why toilet brushes have to be so huge anyway.

SophiePendragon · 14/07/2015 09:53

I don't mean the kitchen sink. If you're washing dirty nappies in the sink it isn't much of a jump to a small toilet brush that's only been used for limescale removal along with a load of chemicals.

Dishwasher would be a no from me though

SophiePendragon · 14/07/2015 09:53

And I never wash it anyway - that's hypothetical. I just use it till it is too manky to go on, then get a new one for 29p or whatever.
