And I won't be slipping a bag in my neighbours' bins! I wouldn't want to start a thread Wink

N0More314 · 04/01/2016 19:47

pizzaeating without the book to hand, I'd say these are the really important rules (summarising madly here). YOu probably know these, but if I were saving a friend the bother of buying the book...

Don't tidy in a location, ie, don't do 'a drawer', or 'the kitchen', instead 'do' a category of items, such as books. Or towels. Take all the items out of their storage and only put back what sparks joy!
Everything must have one place only. (i realised today i have first aid type stuff and stationery things all over the house. I knew where they were but still.. that's rectified now)

I've only done clothes, shoes, make-up, toiletries, towels, stationery, first-aid.
So long way to go yet.

building2015 · 04/01/2016 20:59

Poor dd was in tears rescuing things from the donation bag tonight. Sad I just kept saying that it was fine but that we should look at it after school tomorrow NOT right before bed. Sigh.

2016Bambino · 04/01/2016 21:35

Hi can I join please? Been a lurker on the threads the last few weeks and read the book just before Christmas. Smile
Have since done clothes, except shoes, and took 12 bags to the charity shop today! It feels so good to be rid of all that stuff although there's a couple of things I'm slightly regretting already.
Not quite doing the right order as sorted all paperwork so that it is in one place and partly sorted books although they shouldn't be too much of a problem for me.
I'm very motivated to get rid of as much clutter as possible as I'm 37 weeks pregnant and can't face having all the baby stuff plus DS toys plus clutter in the house and never being able to find anything!

stiffstink · 04/01/2016 22:57

I cleared a big wedge of receipts out of my purse and found a 2yr old voucher for £10 that expires soon so that was kondoed today - I bought a variety of glamorous pregnancy-related items such as maternity pads ready for when I declutter my uterus of this baby in a few weeks! I'm ginormous!

N0More314 · 04/01/2016 23:02

I had my dc2 at 37 weeks! And although I knew nothing of the word kondo at the time, in fact, Marie-Kondo was only 20 at the time, I was sorting out the clutter on top of the fridge and on top of the microwave when I realise, oh, this show is on the road! Shock

stiffstink · 04/01/2016 23:54

The baby stuff is with my DSis at the minute but will be on its way on Saturday for me to Kondo it before it goes in the drawers.

I bought a huge bundle second hand on ebay and I have passed it around various friends after I used it, so this will be the 5th baby wearing those cute bits. The savings bring me joy!

AradiasDaemon · 05/01/2016 00:10

I still need to tackle coats and shoes then that's the clothes category all done.

I did the kitchen cupboard with plates etc in earlier, felt so much better after. Still think I can do more though. I know I don't need 7 wineglasses for example but they definitely bring me joy... Grin

I also inadvertently did the first aid box and medicines etc as there were loads in the cupboard. Half of them were out of date! Blush

N0More314 · 05/01/2016 00:32

Im always breaking wine glasses. I need extra too.

bedunkalilt · 05/01/2016 04:01

I know locations aren't the idea but I did the bathroom. This is because I don't have much in there but what I did have was cluttered and disorganised and I knew there were useless bits. So on going to the bathroom at on point I had a sudden thought of, "Right, let's look at this", I happened to have an empty plastic bag in there, and chucked lots. Took me about 5mins and it is so much better now.

However it wasn't all of my toiletries Blush so I need to pull those all out and finish the job properly.

N0More314 · 05/01/2016 09:15

I don't know how much I'll get done today. I will be taking down xmas decs and tree, and that doesn't count!

N0More314 · 05/01/2016 09:50

Oh no, although my son has got the bug he's just moving things around in his room. He tells me he's not throwing things out, he's just moving them. It was a 8x8 bombsite.

N0More314 · 05/01/2016 15:21

My son's room is completely cleared out. 7 black bags of crap and clothes. It's not exactly ''kondoed'' as I decided what would bring him joy! But he's very happy with it.

N0More314 · 05/01/2016 15:21

I'm going to have to get one of those small cloth skips I think.

AradiasDaemon · 05/01/2016 23:57

A minor miracle has occurred in our house. DD(14) has been initiated into the KonMari way. This is the child that has driven me to despair with the state of her room, in particular, her clothes.

Started her off, came back to 2 binbags of charity. A-feckin-mazing! Showed her the folding magic. She has not only folded every single thing beautifully but just informed me that she has arranged them all by colour too.

Wtf is this strange magic? Grin

NotCitrus · 06/01/2016 05:36

Good to hear of children getting the bug!
I plan to try getting ds to focus on his most favourite things and making sure they are somewhere he can reach them and will be safe, so maybe we could pile all his toys on the lower bunk, persuade some to go in his cupboard rather than the array of open boxes, fill plastic drawers and large boxes systematically, find somewhere for all his pens/paper etc now he likes drawing and writing, and then possibly agree to ditch some of the remainder or at least shove in a bag to ignore for a while.

Will let you know how it goes.
Meanwhile I have Kondoed my job of 15 years and hit Delete for around 5000 emails and a thousand documents. I'm sure anything that vital has been copied to my home account. I feel sort of naked yet so much less bogged down!

MsUrsa · 06/01/2016 06:22

It's the MAGIC OF TIDYING, Aradias Grin

And regardless of how long the folding lasts (mine...doesn't tend to) that's two black bags of stuff you never have to see again, huzzah!

Don't sweat it, N0More, if he's happy then all's well. (Hope you get your seven bags out of the house pronto though, I never feel like it's completely gone till it's in the charity shop or the bin has been emptied. That might just be me.)

stiffsink, not long to go now! I'm a couple of weeks behind you, but yesterday I adjusted the sidecar cot properly so that it's at the right height and all I have to do is attach it. (high fives self. Realises how sad that is.)

Wow NotCitrus, congratulations!

stiffstink · 06/01/2016 07:03

I still need to Kondo DS's downstairs toys but this week I seem to be focussing on lying on the sofa kondoing mince pies into my mouth!

A weird thing has happened - DH has started doing things without being asked, such as putting up the new lampshade, picking up the list of things needed from Ikea and... just going there. I hesitate to let MK take the credit but maybe the lack of clutter has made these jobs more obvious to him? Does it make him think "There's a lovely lampshade on the bed! Quick! Put it where it will spark joy!"

I feel so much more relaxed not having to nag all the time and we are getting on so much better, its great.

NotCitrus · 06/01/2016 10:06

Good to hear that, stiffstink!

MrNC asked what I was going to do with all my free time today. Which is 90 min until I need to collect dc2, and will be paying bills and doing a good shop. Then getting kids to help take down Xmas stuff. Kondo can start next week (only I'm thinking about it already...)

Lodger had large bin bag for the charity shop on NYE, so left it on the porch to make more space for a party. Guests were great at tidying up, but that bag got mixed with all the bin bags of rubbish and is presumably now in landfill. Oops.

MTWTFSS · 06/01/2016 14:35

My copy of "Spark Joy: An Illustrated Guide to the Japanese Art of Tidying" is arriving tomorrow Grin

N0More314 · 06/01/2016 15:03

I've got an almost full cloth skip in my front garden. I could try and do the kitchen at the weekend and hold off on getting the skip collecting 'til Monday.

Greymalkin · 06/01/2016 15:56

I managed to Kondo about 25-30 of my books yesterday and took them to the charity shop this afternoon. Getting rid of books is a BIG THING for me. What I have left is my 'hall of fame'; the absolute favourites and ones still to be read.

However, I still have text books and cook books to do, might have a look at those tomorrow.

Everyone is doing so well! Very impressed that DCs are doing it too, mine is far too young so I do his Kondoing for him.

building2015 · 06/01/2016 18:40

Took a load of stuff to the chazzer today.

Am wondering whether to go back and reread Kondo1 and then get Kondo2. My DH is reading Kondo1 right now but I also have it on Kindle for just such an emergency.

SnozzberryMincePie · 06/01/2016 18:50

I'm inspired by all of your kondo efforts! I've been juggling baby and toddler today and haven't even done the washing up. Tomorrow is just me and the baby so should be able to get some done, if I can persuade the baby to nap somewhere that isn't on me!

SnozzberryMincePie · 06/01/2016 18:55

Can anyone remember what comes after clothes? Is it books or paperwork?
