I just kondo'd my microfibre cloths. Just that.

Have bn reading this thread and finally started, time and health mean I will be slow, but ive started. It feels scary.

CycleChic · 26/08/2015 12:46

Welcome, wherehavewe and congrats on the first step :)

I'd suggest doing pants or socks next, as another self contained item. There's nothing like being able to wear good pants every day, knowing that the ragged ones have all been binned!

wherehaveigonewrong · 26/08/2015 19:30

Thank you, cycle, pants are a good idea. I'm desperate to lose some weight so I've promised myself new pants and bras as I get smaller; I'll start by binning the grey horrors. :(

I came home from work actually looking forward to doing a bit more.

Iqueen · 26/08/2015 22:01

wherehaveigonewrong The key is not chucking 'the grey horrors'.

The key is sorting out the ones that you always reach for, because they are comfortable and you don't know you're wearing them! Ditch the ones that chafe, are the wrong sizes, that irritate you, are the wrong style or don't fit.

Maybe the grey ones are the most comfortable? Chuck all the rest. Then find new ones that are as comfortable (and as pretty as the grey ones once were). Then, you can chuck the 'grey horrors'! Grin

I'm still around :)

Zippidydoodah · 27/08/2015 18:28

I might be returning (for a third time?!)

Time and circumstances have meant I didn't ever quite get round to finishing kondoing so I'm going to start again at the beginning.

Having kondoed my job, I will hopefully have a little time as of next week when dd goes back to school (though still two little ones at home with me).

Good to see progress is still being made, and especially good to see that kondoed things are remaining that way!

wherehaveigonewrong · 28/08/2015 07:21

Ok ive read the book and done my teatowels and hankies. Is it ok that nearly all of those spark joy? One box of each, they live in my landing cupboard and dont take up much room. I enjoy washing and ironing them, often do it at night when I cant sleep. Washing ironing folding calms me. If I discarded them I know I'd miss them. Not very kondo that is it?

Iqueen · 28/08/2015 10:11

prettymess Good to see you, back again! Smile How are you? Any news you wish to divulge or PM? Flowers

OP posts:
Iqueen · 28/08/2015 10:21

wherehaveigonewrong Washing hankies would not spark joy with me; neither would ironing tea-towels, or ironing at anytime - I haven't ironed any clothes for over 30 years!

HOWEVER, this isn't about me!

Whatever sparks joy for you, is OK. You can have a 12 drawer COD, full of pretty Swiss embroidered hankies, if that brings you joy! Some/most of us, fellow konverts, might think that is is a tad OTT, but it's not our life, or COD!

The point of kondoing is not 'how many', but having only joyful things/people in our homes and lives! Grin

Welcome back, Zippi!

Wow, freedom from employment! Well done! Cake

I know of several people, on another thread, who have FINISHED! They are ecstatic! Cleaning takes no time at all, and they are enjoying new hobbies, sports, more socialising, or just relaxing, now their homes are under control.

I'm still plodding along, but everything kondoed so far, is still kondoed and bringing me increasing joy.

I can tell you, that way back, before my home got out of control, I had 2 teens, plus 3 under three, and life was SO much easier to manage, with an ordered home! (It only started to go downhill, as they began to leave home; and it got really bad, after they had all gone! So, beware of 'empty nest, syndrome'!) Wink

No news from hospital at all. I'm pretty annoyed about it but hopefully no news is good news?

On KM front things are going well. I've had a few clicks. Woohoo!

Greymalkin · 30/08/2015 07:41

Just checking back in.

I think I have finished all of my clothes now in terms of discarding, I now have to find a home for them and fold.

DH has started his Konversion - chucking out old clothes and slowly working through all the mountains of this he doesn't wear.

Roonerspism · 30/08/2015 09:49

I'm still here and Kondoing when I can. Hoping to be near complete (including attic) by Xmas Shock

Any tips on Kondo-ing your own clothes? There isn't much joy in my slong sleeved tops and thermals but it is freezing here in winter!

Zippidydoodah · 30/08/2015 23:40

Iqueen- thank you so much for the lovely warm welcome! I'm very excited about being unemployed! Grin

Hopefully I'll actually be able to get somewhere with the kondoing this time, although I did notice today that my youngest dd's clothes remain folded vertically and beautifully arranged! Her stuff is easy to put away and its a doddle getting her dressed each day. If only the other dc didn't pull all their stuff out all the time! I plan on running a tight ship from now on! (Wish me luck!!)

Zippidydoodah · 30/08/2015 23:41

Ps I was kind of thinking it might be the other way round; ordered house once fledglings have flown? No?!

What other thread do you mean, if you don't mind me asking?

zippy I think if we can Kondo a busy family house, we can Kondo anything!

buffy hope you are feeling better. I'm itching to restart mine too.

Anyone have a minimalist wardrobe?

prettymess · 31/08/2015 19:32

Something clicked in the bedroom (KM wise!). I was cleaning in there and moved some stuff around. It all felt just right!

prettymess · 31/08/2015 19:34

Rooner, I've gone for keeping the three colours (purple black & navy) I like and they all mix and match.

Roonerspism · 31/08/2015 19:46

Wow pretty mess. That looks amazing. Are they all the tops you own?

I'm too ashamed to post my wardrobe Blush

prettymess · 31/08/2015 19:51

A few in the wash as well as a skirt and a pair of jeans. Those are all the clothes I own apart from pjs, underwear and work uniform.

Roonerspism · 01/09/2015 09:41

Have you always been like this or is there hope for me?! What about summer clothes/shorts/winter jerseys etc?

Iqueen · 01/09/2015 15:03

Zippidydoodah

I left home at the same time as my last 2 nestlings - I went away to do a PGCE! Grin

Then I got a job 150 miles away! At first I didn't get home often, but later, when I did get home every weekend, I was so busy with lesson plans, producing resources, laundry, and feeding myself that housekeeping, at home, slipped more than it had when the children started leaving. Sad

When I retired, I just revelled in doing what I wanted, when I wanted. No visitors, as family and friends are too far away. By the time I realised something needed to be done, it was overwhelming! Tried to regain control, several times - it never worked, till MK.

The reason I had a tidy organised home, when the family were at home, was that we didn't have all the komono that people buy these days, and life was easier to manage with fewer things, together with proper organisation. Smile

I do layers instead of seasonal clothes. And I've only been like this since KM and this article helped

stiffstink · 01/09/2015 20:42

KM progress still going, slowly but surely. Kondo'd areas remain Kondo'd. I just checked my Amazon history and I bought the book in January, it feels like years ago because my mindset is so different now.

Its definitely contagious: DH is going to read the book. Dsis wants to borrow it. DFIL asked me what has kickstarted my weightloss, I said "that crazy Japanese book about tidying up that you saw me reading". I think he wants to borrow it but is wondering how to ask! 3yr old DS has even got involved by kondoing some books and keeping the 2 he really loved.

I am almost 17 weeks PG now and DSis is going to hand back the maternity stuff she borrowed from me so I can kondo what I don't want. Then I suppose in 2016 I will re-kondo my clothes again, having gone out of maternity clothes and hopefully into a smaller size based on my weightloss progress so far (all ok'd by the midw).

DH is still loving the new job, having been encouraged by me to kondo his joyless one (just a month after buying the book). Both of us have had payrises - I think mine was partly due to being able to focus better and I actually kondo'd my work desk, it has lots of boxes in it! Our bank balance looks better even though we seem to be spending more "fun" money (there isn't that much fun money but we haven't been overdrawn for months and we only got payrises on the last pay day).

Our house renovations are starting to get done, we are getting more fresh air, making plans to see people instead of arguing about cleaning for a whole weekend (we now have a fab bargain cleaner once a fortnight because cleaning does not bring me joy).
