Following on from another thread, anything you wouldn't put in there? I avoid wooden spoons, wooden chopping boards, baking trays and anything from my magimix. I can't say the same for DH frustratingly.

Hmm - I once put what I thought was a silicone ice tray in and it must have been some sort of plastic as it came out all deformed. Shame - it made 32 ice cubes at a time!

youmakemydreams · 17/05/2015 22:22

One of the dc put this plastic curly washable straws in once thinking they were doing good because I hate trying to clean them. It came out poker straight which was very exciting because it was 'the longest straw in the whole world'

bonzo77 · 17/05/2015 22:22

Curly plastic straws. The baby bottles. Well, they're useable but are very orange and the lids have distorted so they don't fit.

TheEmpressofBlandings · 17/05/2015 22:25

A natural sponge. It virtually vanished into a tiny slimy splodge.
Generally I put anything in the dishwasher, I'm a lazy arse and if it doesn't survive the dishwasher, I don't want it.

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2015 22:27

Wellies

I thought they'd come out all clean and sparkly, but the heat killed the shine and they came out full and blistered.

rocket74 · 17/05/2015 22:27

A large glass vase came out neatly sliced into two pieces.

steppemum · 17/05/2015 22:32

various plastic lids.

yy to curly straws

I do put in wooden spoons and wooden handles. They are fine (handles don't look great, but still strong and very ancient kitchen utensils anyway.

I wouldn't put in a wooden chopping board, but do put in all the parts of the magimix and baking trays if they fit. Don't get why you wouldn't with those two.

maroonedwithfour · 17/05/2015 22:33

Curly straws. Some plastic boxes.

Selks · 17/05/2015 22:35

My glass measuring jug....it flipping well stripped all the writing and measurement calibrations off it, so I am left with a ...jug.

steppemum · 17/05/2015 22:43

Oh yes we have had a couple of mugs which lost their pattern too.

Fourarmsv2 · 18/05/2015 07:47

Some cheap mugs - went in bin.

Thermos flask metallic part.

Duplo lost it's sheen.

MothershipG · 18/05/2015 08:19

Mermaid roasting tray. The best roasting tray ever, one of the ones that need to be seasoned before you use it. Pesky DH put it in the dishwasher so I had to season it again.

None of my precious Kenwood bits and bobs are allowed in there, even if they say they are.

We are a bit slip shod in how we fill it and over stack as well and managed to shatter a glass pan lid, took me ages to get all the little chunks of glass out. Blush

Elliptic5 · 18/05/2015 08:32

Paperweights, cracked right through but didn't actually come apart. They were expensive ones too, don't know what I was thinking of.

beachyhead · 18/05/2015 08:43

Were your paperweights very dirty? Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/05/2015 08:49

I don't put in plastic lunchboxes as the lids shrink and stop fitting.

Also don't put in the black enamel grids from the gas cooker, it took all the shine off the surface.

I do put in wooden spoons, baking trays, cske tins, parts from my Kenwood, including bowl. also wooden chopping boards (they are dishwasher proof ones, have been in every day for several years and still fine).

MinimumPayment · 18/05/2015 08:49

A gel filled teething ring didn't make it.

Wellies go in the washing machine!

tictactoad · 18/05/2015 08:50

The cutlery tray that came with it.

Haven't had it long and the bottom has already broken Angry

steppemum · 18/05/2015 12:41

we are on our 2nd or 3rd cutlery box thing.
Not sure what we do that breaks the bottom, but it breaks all the time

KatharineClifton · 18/05/2015 12:54

Enameled things don't last long if dishwashed. Had a lovely jug from Garden Trading, and a colander from Wilkos which have both had it now. Also glass chopping boards with the plastic picture underneath as that comes off as well as the little rubber feet which keep it from moving on tops.

Eigg · 18/05/2015 13:02

The only things that go in my dishwasher are using crockery and cutlery and chopping boards.

It has taken me years to train my PILs (who dishwasher everything) that my pots, my good knives and my silver cutlery do not go anywhere near the dishwasher.

I've managed not to lose my temper during any of these 'discussions' even re the silverware which I think shows great personal restraint.

steppemum · 18/05/2015 13:36

Eigg - we have silver cutlery, and it is old (my grandmother's) and it all goes in the dishwasher. The secret is that is has to be kept separate from the other cutler, not come into contact at all. It is fine.

See, I don't get it really, was I was growing up loads of stuff wasn't allowed in our dishwasher. Then my brother left home and had a 'if it doesn't go in the dishwasher, I don't want it in my kitchen' approach. I was Shock

Why wouldn't a knife go in? Or a saucepan? or anything unless marked as unsuitable. My SIL is like this, all sorts of things 'not allowed' included all her saucepans, which are solid stainless steel. Life is too short. The fewer things to wash up the better!

TheEmpressofBlandings · 18/05/2015 14:14

I'm with you steppemum! One of our friends 'rinses' everything so thoroughly before it goes in that he may as well just skip the dishwasher part. We don't rinse anything.
Just thought of another thing which actually works really well, if you have metal grease filters in yor cooker hood, you can put those through for a really easy way to clean them. Recommended by our kitchen fitter!

BigFluffyHair · 18/05/2015 15:33

My PIL handwash everything aswell. May aswell skip the DW. My mum's old magimix got dishwasher water in the handle so, even though mines a handle with holes, I don't put it in there. Plus it turns the plastic cloudy.

Plastic lids from Ikea. Lesson learnt.

musicinspring1 · 18/05/2015 16:04

Sophie the giraffe lost her squeak. (Shame!) Wink
