which dishwasher tablet do you use?

As above, please share with me your preferred all in one dishwasher tablet. I usually prefer Fairy green ones (platinum if on offer, regular if not) just getting a bit fed up of them never seeming to be on offer at the moment.

I'm not keen on the regular Finish powerball ones, they don't smell very fresh and seemed to fade my crockery a bit Confused I don't like lemon fragranced ones much either. Apart from that I'm open to suggestions? I've just bought co op value brand 30 for £1.75 as there were no branded ones on offer that I could see, and I'm getting fed up paying 20p per tablet!

What on earth is dishwasher cancer?!

Aldi tabs here, seem fine to me but I have noticed patterned mugs have faded, thought that happened anyway but 'praps not? Cheap mugs btw.

Def clean well, no cloudy glasses for example.

Aldi here. And definitely agree that the dishwasher makes the most difference. Bought a Siemens when our indesit died and the difference is amazing! Everything comea out so clean- in fact today was the first time in 4 months I've had to put something back through the dishwasher again because it wasn't clean. I used to do it all the time with the old one.

Dishwasher cancer is that bluey-green petrol effect that doesn't wash out of glasses. It's not poisonous but it certainly doesn't look nice. Good excuse for new glasses, though!

Not Fairy Platinum. They are making everything taste of detergent.

PrimalLass check you've not got a blockage/kinked pipe anywhere.

Years ago I could taste some residue after staying at my parents while they were away - turned out there was a kink in the rubber pipe which meant it wasn't rinsing adequately

Thank you. We probably do. It won't drain well either.

I think it depends so much on what exactly your tap water is like. I have middling water (not hard, not soft) and find that I get a lot of build-up on glasses, to the point that the are white and you can actually taste the tablet with the Aldi ones. I'm going to try snapping them in half and see if that helps.

When dishwasher was installed we were told that the tablets weren't recommended - but rather separate poweder, rinse aid and salt. Worked for us and been cheaper!

Ecover. I think they are great - have only otherwise ever used Finish (I think - that was years ago).

I always add rinse aid and salt to keep the pipes clean, you should unless you live in a very soft water area, even with the 3 in one tablets. And once every 6 weeks give it a clean through on a hot wash with cleaner.

Aldi's own.

Tesco Everyday Value or Daisy, basically the dead cheap ones. Anything pricier leaves a dull sheen. I think it is because we have got very soft water.

Lidl or Fairy on offer. Tried Finish the other day(free sample) awful, left things marked and unclean and smelt horrid. So glad I did't buy the pack of 72 currently on offer in Waitrose for a tenner! As I only have a slimline dishwasher I might try the half tablet trick.

I've also been told that 3 in 1 are a waste as you need rinse aid and salt anyway. So the whole lot comes from Wilkinson at a fiver for 30 tabs and the rest; lasts two months here.

Yup -you need rinse aid and salt anyway (well in our hard water area you do) so we've gone back to powder. Not much point buying tablets really, just an expensive con.

I buy a box of finish or fairy etc that is on biggest offer (excluding lemon dented) and a box of daisy or tesco own brand. Then I mix them all up, and switch between the brands.

Is the powder a lot cheaper than basics/value tablets? I like the ease of just chucking a tablet in the machine, don't bother putting it in the little release bit.
I mainly use v cheap Asda own label, sometimes tesco, and they clean just fine.
Also use salt as very hard water area, but probably only fill it up every 6 months or so (no idea actually but it ran out last week and I haven't done it for ages).
Have never used rinse aid.

What does rinse actually do?

If I run out of salt I know that I don't get clean dishes, but as I don't use rinse aid I'm not sure what I'm missing?

Had a box of tablets from somewhere (BM type place I think) a while ago which were crap, I am using them up occasionally with my normal cheap ones ATM as if I do a run of 3 or 4 at a time the dishes start being not properly clean.

We swapped to lidl own from finish around three months ago and in more than impressed. No salt or rinse aid but we are in a very soft water area.

Sizzlesthedog · 25/05/2015 08:16

I used Lidl ones in mn recommendation. They were awful. All the glasses went cloudy and the pans went purple, they did so much damage. I now have them at the back of cupboard for emergencys if we run out of Fairy ones. One now and then doesn't hurt, but using them all the time was causing a problem.

We have new Bosh dishwasher and live in soft water area.
