If you really do three loads of washing a day....

Clary · 30/10/2006 13:42

That?s 21 a week, right? What are you actually washing? I?m not having a go, just interested (following ?how many times? thread) in how many people claim to do this much washing.

Yes, some days I might do 3 loads (if one of the kids has a night accident eg) but the next day probably none.
Are you mega washers really doing 21 washes a week? Are you all really dirty? what?s your laundry list, come on, I need to know if there is laundry I am failing to do.
(I have three DCs btw)

I would second the not mkaing the bed for the best thing for it.

Lakeland Limited sell the pull down pulleys for drying laundry.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 01/11/2006 11:01

Best place for a pulley airer, if your house is the right shape, is the really high bit of ceiling over the stairs. All the warm air from your hall goes stright up there and you can load it from the landing banisters. You do need an imaginative handyman with no vertigo issues to fix it up though.

Skribble · 01/11/2006 12:22

My mum had this in her last house, the radiator in the hall used to be the hottest one so used all that otherwise wasted heat, and you don't really see it up there.

katiebirdie · 01/11/2006 14:32

never smells of food etc zippy, i was concerned about it at first but has never been a problem (and i use a LOT of garlc when i cook!) lol

zippy34 · 01/11/2006 15:40

Fab. Thanks katiebirdie - definitely getting one then as it's such a good use of space.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 16:33

I'm sure capacity is a quite a big issue. There is absolutely no way on earth I can get all our (double) bedding in one one load - my machine just isn't big enough.

Mind you hopefully that will change before June next year - DH has put "new washing machine" high on the list of "must do" things before DC3 arrives in May/June,

Bozza · 01/11/2006 16:41

I have been thinking about this too and I think it also depends on how much bedding you have on your bed! We have one double fitted sheet, one king size duvet cover, and two pillow cases. If people had extra sheets/pillowcases that would make a difference.

The DCs each have single fitted sheets, single duvet covers and one pillow case. Their duvet covers and pillow cases are also much more lightweight than our heavy cotton ones.

saintBernard · 01/11/2006 16:42

balls. you planet killers.

i bet you recyle though eh? your childrens childrens children wont have this pleasure

stleger · 01/11/2006 16:54

My elderly neighbours, who used to tumble dry everything, have now got a line inside their garage.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 16:58

I always feel I have to change our sheets fairly regularly (once a week in summer just overly weekly in the winter) as the bed gets slept in so much. Take this week for example.

Sunday night - DH slept in it
Monday day - I slept in it
Monday night - both of us
Tuesday night - DH
Wednesday day - me
Wednesday night - both of us
Thursday night - DH
Friday day - me
Friday night - DH
Saturday day - me
Saturday night - DH
Sunday day - me
Sunday night - both of us.

Doesn't really give it much time to throw the sheets back and let it 'air'......

twoisenoughmum · 01/11/2006 18:21

I am obsessive compulsive about laundry and have 15 different types of load written down in a little book. Fret disproportionately if something from one load has to go in with another, in an emergency. Also can't stand using the tumble dryer cos the clothes come out soft (like they are when you've already worn them) and that just doesn't feel clean. I like mine to feel slightly hard and crispy. But am fully aware I'm irrational and dysfunctional in this regard - as witnessed by the 6 different overflowing laundry baskets we have on the go, dotted all around the house! Love this thread.

auntzubba · 01/11/2006 19:24

rekon washing most important job. always change kids clothes every day also mine and dh. towels daily, sheets weekly. visit a girl regularly who has no towels in b,room or kitchen-makes me want to puke- its disgusting

beckybrastraps · 01/11/2006 19:30

I do NOT want my clothes to feel hard and crispy!

Laughing a bit at this thread now. Reminds me of one a while back about things you found disgusting in other people's houses.

LOL at 16 specified washing loads (sorry twoisenoughmum!)

In fact, if towels are such harbingers of doom - laden with germs and dead skin, surely the air drying suggested by having no towel would be preferable?

And to throw my load into the machine...
Probably around 8 loads a week.

Bozza · 01/11/2006 21:05

auntzubba why is it so disgusting? Surely not having soap would be worse?

twoisenoughmum I am intrigued. Fancy sharing the categories with us? I have roughly 5.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 01/11/2006 21:10

Cleaning the toilet handle and taps has to be the most important job actually. Where have those hands just been?

If she's that bad surely there are other things in her house that would make a person puke sooner?

Clary · 02/11/2006 00:54

QoQ you're not wrong then about washing machine capacity.

Tonight (it being Wednesday) I did our bedlinen - double duvet, ditto sheet, six pillowcases (two on the top pillows), added in all the other whites of ours I could scarpe together an dit was still not really a full load!

(I did it anyway )

OP posts:
NAB3 · 02/11/2006 11:35

Is mine diddy then? I put in the king size duvet cover and bottom sheet and can only get 4 pillow cases in and it is full.

Just put wash load number 3 in and one more to do with a bit left over but that includes 2 wet beds plus 2 mattress protectors.

misdee · 02/11/2006 11:36

ok, i hung up my towels yesterday and reused them this morning. didnt feel right to me, the towel felt odd. sorry [runs and hides]

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 02/11/2006 11:36

omg Clary - I'm so jealous of you - how I'd love to be able to jsut be able to wash our beddding in one load

expatinscotland · 02/11/2006 11:37

We have one of those crap washer/dryer thingies. We don't use the dryer. But b/c there are two drums the washing machine is tiny.

NomDePlume · 02/11/2006 11:39

Clary, I can wash all 4 sets of our day to bedding (not including the guest bed) in ONE go too. So I can fit....

1 x Kingsize Duvet cover
2 x Double Duvet cover
1 x Single Duvet cover
1 x Kingsize Fitted sheet
2 x Double Fitted sheet
1 x Single Fitted sheet
10 x pillowcases

[smug]

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 02/11/2006 11:41

NDP - I don't like you anymore sticks tongue out and goes off in a sulk

NomDePlume · 02/11/2006 11:43

(btw, I meant to put day to day bedding in my post)

@ QoQ. It's a major PITA to dry it all though, if that helps...

mousiemousie · 02/11/2006 11:43

How NDP? Are you from a mouse family or do you have agiant machine?

NomDePlume · 02/11/2006 11:44

rofl mousie

I have quite a big drummed machine (7kg) as opposed to the standard 5.5kg capacity. It's an LG one.
