Husband used Henry Hoover for vomit!

Help!

My son was sick on his bedroom carpet on Saturday night. I got straight to it with the cleaning, scraping up the chunks (sorry) and scrubbing with warm soapy water. However my husband came in with the Henry Hoover (not designed for liquid!) and started hoovering up be sick!!!! The next day the Hoover bag and filter were soaked through so I washed the filter until very clean (and smelling good) and changed the bag. I also cleaned inside tr main red part that the bag goes in.

I've just hoovered the house and I can sme sick - it's coming from Henry! He's blowing out a vile stale sick smell!

Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of the smell inside the Hoover? There's only so much Febreeze I can use!'

Help?!

LTB Grin

I've no idea if you've washed all of Henry's innards... umm...

Snowflake15 · 12/02/2015 12:08

I often use shake and vac stuff/neutradol and that makes it smell lovely when vacuuming - don't know if it will cover the sick tho!? My hubby once used our henry to hoover up cat poo without my knowledge and the smell from thatAngry

LuckySaint · 12/02/2015 12:10

I'd put the hose and attachments in the bath with some washing powder, napisan or bleach.

wildernessagogo · 12/02/2015 12:12

Go shopping for a new Hoover! What a vile thought. My ex put vomit filled sheets straight in the washing machine once. It took around 6 empty loads to get rid of it!

zippyandbungle · 12/02/2015 12:15

I would have put it in reverse and shot him with it.

Sorry no help with the smell other than vacuuming in some baking soda to nutralise the stench.

babymouse · 12/02/2015 12:18

Wash the bits that can be washed. Wipe the rest and change the bag.

Actually, make your dh do it!

bigbluestars · 12/02/2015 12:32

Sorry no advice- my friend did this at a party at my flat many years ago- the hoover stank. We tried everything but eventually had to buy a new hoover.

HellonHeels · 12/02/2015 13:04

I think you're asking the wrong question - shouldn't it be what can your husband do to sort this out?

If it were me I think I'd be buying a new hoover.

Newshoesplease · 12/02/2015 13:07

Argh my husband did this with our Henry and milk. Smell was vile and we had to buy a new hoover. never really forgiven him

CarlaVeloso · 12/02/2015 13:10

Throw it. Get a new one. Consider getting new husband too - that is vile.

morethanpotatoprints · 12/02/2015 13:14

take the pipe off and the bendy black hose bit and soak each bit in soapy water.
I do this from time to time anyway as it improves performance imo.
It won't come to any harm, but may widen the metal/ plastic if water is boiling so wouldn't do that.
just put each section in a bucket and hose in the sink.
Maybe sterilise if you have some fluid or use bicarb after soapy water.

Your dh sounds a bit of a dick tbh.

AmateurSeamstress · 12/02/2015 14:40

Place vacuum in bin. Buy new vacuum.

at least this was what we ended up doing with our non-Henry - and it was only used on dried cleaning foam. I expect that with a Henry you do have a much better chance of being able to wash it all out though.

WD41 · 12/02/2015 15:53

Well I wouldn't be cleaning it for a start if DH saw fit to vacuum up vomit!

I think in all honesty I would be sending DH out to buy a new Hoover.

seaoflove · 12/02/2015 15:54

Bin the Hoover. Idiot husband.

EthelCardew · 12/02/2015 15:57

Oh, I've done that before.

I was 15 and pissed out of my mind on cider!

Hate to say that nothing worked. Although, if we had had a bath, I suppose soaking all the tubes etc in in may have worked better.

Elysianfields · 12/02/2015 16:05

i might soak all the tubes etc, then reasemble. I would then liberally chuck down bicarb and shake and vac and hoover that up in the hopw it gets into the crevices.

I would then buy a new hoover because it either didnt work OR the liberal doses of poweder had got into the motor and ruined it (Dyson I am looking at you here....)

rabbit123 · 12/02/2015 16:06

The smell is coming from the hose. Soak the hose & wands in hot soapy water and some biccarb to neutralise the smell. Stands the wands up & hang the hose over the shower head to dry.
Failing that, you can get a new tool set for far less than you can a new Hoover. Check ebay.

Stillyummy · 14/02/2015 07:53

I would ask for a dyson as compensation. But I am obsessed with them so any excuse ;) x

MissMia84 · 11/04/2015 13:17

So I've cleaned the hose many many times and it still stinks :( My husband refuses to take the blame and won't buy me a new Hoover! Every time I clean the house it stinks of sick. I think it's in the motor :( Any suggestions?

Sorry, I think Henry's doomed. It never goes away, no matter what you try. (Weeps bitterly over lost hand held Dyson which met the same vomitty fate.)

gingerbreadmam · 11/04/2015 13:23

my dp did exactly this 2 weeks ago with our (second hand) dyson. dyson wasnt salvageable and we now have a new (second hand) dyson. stunk even when not in use.

meglet · 11/04/2015 13:23

don't use it anymore. live with the mess until he Angry buys a new one.

Mrsmopnotbucket · 11/04/2015 13:25

Yuck! Try hoovering up a load of bicarbonate of soda, that takes sick smell out of actual carpet so should work on the Hoover?!

Valsoldknickers · 11/04/2015 13:35

I would guess you'd need a super long bottle brush implement (befriend a chimney sweep with clean brushes) to clean inside all the chunks caught in the grooves inside the hose.

Can you get Henry a new hose? (Snort) Also replace bag and filter? Otherwise I would chuck him and your DH out!!

AmateurSeamstress · 11/04/2015 14:25

Hoovering up the bicarb is a great idea. I do think it's terminal though, sorry. And you've spent quite enough time trying to sort out his mess already.
