We are oil fired, bills have been huge. We haven't had our heating on yet, wearing extra layers and we've made a decision that it will be going off at 9pm and we'll have to snuggle up under a duvet in the evenings!!

Yes but it has been to dry washing. We don't have a tumble dryer, it has been raining and too cold inside to get the washing dry.

Walnutshell · 19/10/2006 21:17

Damn straight the heating's on. Oops, not very eco of me...

CountTo10 · 19/10/2006 21:18

We have the night storage ones so - we're trying to hold off as long as possible so it will be big wooly jumpers for a while!!!

emsiewill · 19/10/2006 21:27

Had it on once to dry washing in a hurry that couldn't go in the tumble dryer. Otherwise haven't felt the need (S Wales).

Have been using my electric blanket tho' - couldn't live without that.

Crotchety · 19/10/2006 21:28

Heating not on yet here...Given half a chance dh would never have it on because he doesn't feel the cold. Annual battle to come.

princessmel · 19/10/2006 21:29

magnolia1 · 19/10/2006 21:32

Same here crotchety Hubby hates heating, I love it. Battle will commence soon!!

MumRum · 19/10/2006 21:37

We've only had it on once for about an hour and that was really to check that it still worked!
So No, we've not had it on yet but we have got cavity wall insulation and thick loft insulation.. Do you think that makes a big difference?
We're in Berkshire.. and to be honest, I don't think its got that cold here yet,

Frizombie · 19/10/2006 21:40

no its not cold enough yet but then again we live in a victorian house that got 9ins thick solid bricks so thats keeping our house warm

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 19/10/2006 22:01

I have mine come on in the mornings. Not I have not had it on much at night. I have my gas fire going tonight though as its been cold tonight.

I dont want a high gas bill, now with the high gas costs, its going to be hard not too

Posey · 19/10/2006 22:05

Where do you all live? Just wondering because I have had no desire to put on heating yet, it just isn't cold enough. I don't remember any other year where we haven't had it on by half term though.

QueenPeaHead · 19/10/2006 22:05

we are oil, I've put it on this evening for the first time but will turn it off before bed.
It just feels like it might be a bit of a cold night tonight so wanted to start things off a bit warmer

lipsbite · 19/10/2006 22:31

we've been having a warm week in Liverpool so not too bad

MrsSpoon · 19/10/2006 22:54

brimfull · 19/10/2006 22:59

not yet, haven't felt the need yet.

We've had the windows wide open most days.

down south though

franca70 · 19/10/2006 23:28

boiler is broken...

janebracelet · 20/10/2006 06:21

Had it on a little but huge fuel bills - currently paying £194/month combined gas and electric. I think we are a little in front but that will probably disappear over winter.I do not want to spend that sort of money and are desperaltey trying to find ways of insulating large draughty high ceilinged Victorian house.Have bought sewing machine and am about to start making very thick heavy curtains for everywhere. We have brand new state of the art condensing boiler so cant make any improvements there. And I only use my dryer in emergencies. And we do all the ususal ideas-energy saving bulbs, switching appliances off etc. Last year Aupair got old oil filled radiator out of garage and used to keep it on in her room (as central heating was timed to go off)overnight. Her room was like a furnace.I repeatedly asked her not too do this but she just said she was too cold and carried on regardless!!Yes I know I'm a mug.

spiderplant · 20/10/2006 06:34

We have a coal fueled heating system, takes a while to clean the fire out and light it, but we have had it on a few times in the last month. Will soon be back to having the Friday coalman!!
