Thought I better set this up when I realised I had inadvertently posted the 999th post on thread 4! Shock

Phew I just spent all day tidying DS2's room with him. I was quite surprised at how willing he was to let go of stuff when I asked him whether he loved it or not. He now has toy boxes where the lids go on!

HermioneGrangerHair · 18/01/2015 19:06

BringMe - thanks Flowers I was sure they weren't going to fit at one point, but they just went. Might have fitted another two boxes into the last box!

Pointless - I was in a right shitty mood earlier, but much better now. Sometimes you just need to step away and give yourself a break.Do write to head office... They have authority to make those decisions where the store staff don't. It's still worth another try.

Pointlessfan · 18/01/2015 19:08

Pleased you are feeling better, Hermione. Think I'm going to have a nice bath.

lockie1983 · 18/01/2015 19:39

Pointless do write to them - just fly off a quick, very polite email. I have a good feeling.

Had an hour and a half to myself today - instead of procrastination and grim tidying, I painted my nails, listened to an old punk CD, washed and dried my hair and slathered myself in moisturizer. I even put on handcream. Haven't done that in two years probably (before baby defo).

Then I finished my book.

Not kondoing I know, but, strangely I feel like I have much more space to do stuff for myself now. I don't get it but it really does feel like magic.

ItIsntJustAPhase · 18/01/2015 19:39

Finished the fridge magnets. Cleared off the fridge (except a few) and it looked beautiful, but had a half-done box of undecided magnets hanging around and it was annoying me.

DH has approved a load of books to go and added to the pile! Shock

BrandNewIggi · 18/01/2015 19:46

Threw out so much stuff today - books, DVDs. Wish it wasn't Monday tomorrow! Need to do my make up next, can't see much in the book about it though - anyone have a good approach to make-up? (Do I need the glittery eye shadow I had in 1993?!) Might store it in one of the now-empty drawers to get it odd the surfaces.

HermioneGrangerHair · 18/01/2015 20:22

Sorry Iggi, but any makeup from 1993, regardless of how nice it once was, has to be on the hit list. You can't love it that much, or it'd have been long used up. The "decide what to keep, not what to bin" principle worked really well for me and makeup. I've been like a magpie with makeup over the years (oooooh, sparkly!) and I've kept stuff well past its best. I binned every single bottle of nail varnish (once it's gone gloopy, there's no way back), probably a dozen eyeliner pencils (kept three), all my mascaras (bought a new one... Long overdue), a load of ench bits of foundation, all but two eyeshadow palettes (keeping old ones Is an invitation to conjunctivitis), kept one lipstick, one blusher, one convertible lip/cheek colour. I still probably have more than I need, but it's all in one small bag. Joy!

I can hear DH rattling round upstairs... He's ”sorting out" his wardrobe! Not massively confident he'll get rid of loads, but I'm really proud of him for having a go.

Some of my makeup is quite old, but I only have very few bits as I rarely wear makeup. I know it does expire, and it really shold be chucked at least every 2 years.

I found someone on a local FB site who is asking for things for car boot, she is raising money for a charity. I have no proof that it is genuine, but to be honest I don't care that much where my old stuff goes, as long as it doesn't go to landfill, I just want it to have a purpose that isn't too evil ;)

So here is my big question: I have a pair of handcuffs that I bought for me and DH pre kids a very long time ago. I bought it in a porn shop, and I was dead nervous and embarrased, but the shop assistant was ever so nice ;) They haven't been used for years, and I think they only got used once or twice. Should I keep them and risk my kids finding them or do I embarras myself by trying to find a good home for them?

PS I also have a very short nurse costume that probably shouldn't be hanging in full view in my open wardrobe and that equally hasn't been used for years ;)

ItIsntJustAPhase · 18/01/2015 21:12

Miss, do they give you and DH, ahem, 'joy'? Wink

Violettatrump · 18/01/2015 21:18

Four tesco bags for the charity shop on Monday.

misscph1973 · 18/01/2015 21:20

(giggles)

They used to, ItIsnt ;)

iknowimcoming · 18/01/2015 21:24

I'm feeling really joyful having kondoed my sewing area it now looks lovely and will be really easy to sneak 10 minutes here and there as everything is so nicely organised Smile I used an idea from up thread really successfully, ziplock bags! So now have different bits grouped together in easy to see bags and stacked vertically (how else) in my sewing box - yay! Still have one bag of fabric to sort in the spare room of doom but will easily get that done in 20 mins tomorrow Wine

JKSLtd · 18/01/2015 21:33

Snigger at handcuffs and saucy nurse!

If they're metal can you just put in the recycling?

I also have a cheeky rabbit something I'd rather get rid of. Got sort of forced into buying it at an Anne summers party years ago. Guessing I'm best of just black binning that.

misscph1973 · 18/01/2015 21:44

They're metal ;)

I'm thinking cheeky stuff might do well on ebay, I see a lot of interesting things there - my favourite were used, unwashed ladies socks and stockings, must be for foot fetichists ;)

JKSLtd · 18/01/2015 21:47

Well if there's money in it I could wear all the ones I want to get rid of first then sell them Grin
Oh dear I put them in the textile recycling which went on Friday!

misscph1973 · 18/01/2015 21:55

Hopefully it will find a good home ;)

Well, I have arranged to drop off a few bags for this car booter I mentioned, I am hoping that I can kondo a bit more to put in the bags tomorrow. She's a teenager, so I didn't want to ask her to come and collect the stuff, as that probably means that her mum has to drive her. And she's on my route tomorrow, so it's quite easy, and a lot easier than trying to find parking near a charity shop plus she is happy to take it all and ensure anything unsold goes to charity shop.

Iqueen · 18/01/2015 22:01

I kondoed a BN pair of gorgeous knicks (unworn) - found at the back of a drawer - too big for me after weight loss, to a friend! She'll get them tomorrow, with the knitting pattern she's expecting! Grin

Went up to the freezer bedroom and kondoed half a black bag of clothes. Sorted out some old electrical (dead) komono for the tip. Found 2 more bras in good condition 'sigh'. Also found 6 more carrier bags, which I've folded and filed on edge in the box that held the first lot. Ignored the BsFL last night, but am going to do them now, while the leccy blanket is warming my bed! Smile

Thanks for all the support and motivation. Still a long way to go, but I can see my minimalist goal in the dim distance! Wink

themummyonthebus · 18/01/2015 22:11

Bedding done, as is my handbag. Hopping that will give me some joy tomorrow Smile

Night everyone.

misscph1973 · 18/01/2015 22:17

BsFL?

I had to stop myself eating a whole box of cereal this morning because I wanted the box for my kitchen drawer ;)

I cleaned this afternoon with the kids, they enjoy cleaning so much more now because they don't have to tidy much first ;) House was clean really quickly, so I managed to do the ironing and polish their school shoes (a rare thing!) before dinner.

Any tips on how to get done with cleaning the kitchen up quicker after dinner? I have a dish washer and I clean as I go, but it still seems to take forever. We had dinner at 7pm, and it wasn't till 9pm I could sit down (admittedly I also walked and fed the dog and put the kids to bed, but still) at my computer to get organised for tomorrow and report here.

Everstrong · 18/01/2015 22:26

Wow the thread has taken a saucy turn since I last posted!! All
This talk of handcuffs and Ann Summers parties! I also have a "friend" from an Ann Summers party (why do we always feel obligated to buy things at these events?!) which I feel will just have to go to the bin.

Tonight I revisited my kitchen Kondoing, realised I hadn't looked at the spice rack which was sitting on the worktop runining the otherwise tidy space. Of the 12 jars, 9 were out of date. Chucked the lot then decided to chuck the spice rack too! The spices I do use are in a cupboard stacked in an ikea box along with the stock cubes etc.

Also got rid of 2 old pans which missed the first cut and I think I may re-do baking stuff (we have a million different cookie cutters!) later. It amazes me how you keep on decluttering even when you've done whole categories. I Kondoed my clothes and shoes ages ago but I keep getting rid of odd bits here and there.

Amazing progress everyone is making! Going to pass the book to my mum next as she is a hoarder!

MrsMook · 18/01/2015 22:55

It's not long since I binned my make up from 1993. The new stuff is from 2008/9 for my wedding. I only wore make up about 3 times last year, and not before December, so I'm not replacing it frequently! At least it predates the use by codes, so it must officially be fine Wink

MrsMook · 18/01/2015 23:00

At my mum's over Christmas, I recognised the Boots Global Collection bath elixir that was hanging around when I was a teenager about 20 years ago. The Calpol 6+ wasn't lying around, but I wouldn't lay money that it's been decluttered.

I think she'd quite like MK before adding the book to a heap which may or may not have "clear your clutter with feng shui " lurking in it.

Iqueen · 18/01/2015 23:14

BsFL - Bags For Life. Probably would have been better to say BFLs! Grin
