Thought I better set this up when I realised I had inadvertently posted the 999th post on thread 4! Shock

Oxfam does and I think you can put them in the Salvation Army clothes bank too. Might also be worth asking women's refuge or a homeless charity.

MrsGuyMartin · 16/01/2015 15:40

I've done the paperwork! Feels amazing. We're down to half a filing cabinet drawer for stuff we need to keep and a box file for stuff that rotates yearly.
Sort of hitting random 'stuff' and clothes as they come out of the wash or I come across them.

upandawayy · 16/01/2015 15:47

grouchykiwi if you google Give and Make Up they will take bras and give them to women who have escaped domestic violence or are on refuges. I just sent them a huge envelope full of bras, including maternity.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/01/2015 16:18

Women's Refuge is a brilliant idea. Thank you.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/01/2015 16:26

I love the sheet folding video but I have a funny feeling my first attempt isn't going to look anything like the one in the video Grin

kiwi5 · 16/01/2015 16:48

Grouchy - a friend is wanting bras to adorn her dads shop in Barnstaple - if u want to help a world record and raise money and awareness for Coppafeel (breast cancer charity) pm me and we could try and sort something out!
In kondo news -really struggle to post as u guys all move so fast. All the stuff that has been done is staying done. V evangelical about it and have got work mates onto it!

HermioneGrangerHair · 16/01/2015 17:31

Still moving fast here, I see.

iggi, you don't look like a potato! I sometimes feel like I'm the shape of a potato, but there are always some clothes that make me think it's not so awful. Those things you wear when you need a confidence boost... That's the joy. Bin everything else and get more of that stuff!

I've been evangelising in work. Had two colleagues, just over lunch, make notes in their phones to buy the book!

BrandNewIggi · 16/01/2015 17:54

Thank you Hermione Flowers Grin
Today have done dh's sock drawer. There's no way he'll fold so I got him this organiser thing from B&M for £2.99. Got another one for my jewellery/make up too! And took lots of bags to the charity bins.
I was pleased to see dh's wardrobe was almost empty, till I discovered he had simply moved stuff in bags onto the top of the wardrobe Sad (LTB?)

I've finished sorting my clothes. Can't believe how much I'm getting rid of. And yet I only need to replace my thick Winter cardigans. (I live in Scotland so they're must-haves. Current ones are getting tatty.)

About to embark on filling my drawers but am a little dubious about the stated way of putting the clothes in. Does it really work for you all? I've done it in my DDs' drawers but think it looks messy.

Brandnewiggi · 16/01/2015 18:34

Kiwi it was spring-like in Edinburgh today!
The clothes look tidier when there's a full row of them, they hold each other up.

lightningstrikes · 16/01/2015 20:18

Reporting Kondo miracles: DH brought all of his CDs into the lounge last night and put almost all of them (I found a sneaky box under the spare bed) into flip cases and the plastic cases into bin bags. THEN he took the bin bags with him today (I presume he is taking them to the tip). The CDs live in his car where he listens to them on his commute. All of this without a word from me.

As for me, my job this weekend is to kondo the fleas that are plaguing my cats despite copious amounts of expensive prescription flea drops from vets. Sigh. On the plus side, it is an easier job with less stuff and clearer spaces to ensure I can hoover / spray all areas without dragging loads of stuff out. There just aren't that many neglected corners and spaces in the house now.

I am also finding my head is clearer and I'm reading far more now that I've nearly finished Kondoing. I still have bits to do - scanning papers and probably a lot of photos can be scanned in as well.I feel like those are achievable aims now.

misscph1973 · 16/01/2015 20:25

Oh, very neat cereal box organising, Coat love it!

This afternoon I re-organised my kitchen drawers with lids from narrow and small shoe boxes, the top of my egg boxes (they are flat on the top), veg boxes and ice cream containers. It went quite well, and I cleared another small kitchen cupboard (it used to contain carrier bags, they are now folded and take up so little space) and I don't know what to put in it ;)

Then I chopped and sawed the Christmas tree into bits so I could put in a large rubble sack and take it to the dump without getting pine needles every where (because of course my 19 year old dog and child taxi is soo clean!).

And I even made all of todays work deadlines! And made sushi for dinner. Exhausted now!

If anyone wants a sock drawer organiser, I have a one with dividers that I have never gotten on with (just pay the postage), similar to the one on Brandnew's picture.

Kiwi I also think it looks a bit messy in my drawers, but it's very functional and much easier to tget what I need out.

GatoradeMeBitch · 16/01/2015 20:29

I thought I would fly through my books, but I'm not even halfway Sad

I'm determined to finish them this weekend. I'm starting to think I've been dragging my feet because I don't want to move on to paperwork; THAT is going to be a struggle. I'm a serious paper hoarder!

MrsGuyMartin · 16/01/2015 20:59

It's Friday night and I'm sorting through GCSE and A Level notes to take to the tip. But it's more boxes done and out of th way!

Tip tomorrow with empty boxes, paper, broken electricals and any other stuff I can ferret out. i 'm being a bit random with the sorting out but I feel like I need to get rid of the obvious detritus and the jobs that have been put off before I actually start on the main categories. The house is actually starting to function!

GrouchyKiwi · 16/01/2015 21:03

Well I'm very happy with the drawers in the end. It's so nice to see everything and have them so tidy. I think on reflection it probably is tidier than piles of clothes - certainly in the small things drawer. Even DH thinks they look great.

These are the two prettiest.

Heh. Never thought I'd be this happy about the state of my chest of drawers!

Wonder if the people who work at the recycling stations and charity shops are feeling the effect of Marie Kondo? Just think of the purged stuff on this thread alone ;)

My best lookign drawer is the tea towel drawer in the kitchen, because I have 12 identical tea towels (not, it's not too many! They are from my home country and if I have 12, they last longer as they rotate slower). It's a thing o beauty that I often open now, just to calm my nerves ;)

Mrs, think of this Friday night as an investment in future calm Friday nights ;)

Kiwi, I knew you would like it ;) But wait, you will like it even more when you experience how it makes your life easy in the morning!

ItIsntJustAPhase · 16/01/2015 21:25

Haven't done any for a few days now but am properly inspired by your stories and keen to crack on when I can. Grin

Iqueen · 16/01/2015 22:29

After spending time on Pinterest, looking for DIY/recycled storage solutions, I just had to kondo (out of sequence!) my kitchen rolls. They were standing a plastic waste bin on the floor and always getting in the way. Sad

Finally, it came to me. I have some sturdy cardboard boxes for storing students' coursework, that I was planning to throw out. I assembled one, cut off the lid and now have a home for the kitchen rolls, which stands firmly against the wall on a small trolley! Grin I think I will get some 'sticky-backed plastic' to cover it, so it looks less utility, and is wipeable.

And the waste bin can replace a bedroom one, which is cracked!

I also discovered that a Pringles tube is better for storing spaghetti than a cellophane packet and a bag-clip! So, I had to go out and by a tube (on offer!) and de-clutter them! It's a hard job but someone had to do it! Grin

Iqueen · 16/01/2015 22:35

ItIsntJustAPhase It is probably best to keep our noses to the grindstone to maintain our momentum. However, as long as we can maintain what we have already achieved, we can continue building on success, whenever possible! [Grin]

Violettatrump · 16/01/2015 22:38

Reporting in with progress...

  • did an hour on photos/momentos/letters then gave up!
  • charity shopped one full tesco bag of stuff plus a rug
  • got rid of the kids bedroom cupboard as they only need drawers now! Shifted the boys bedroom furniture around so that looks better.
HermioneGrangerHair · 16/01/2015 22:46

I am virtually purring with delight at kiwi's drawers. What has happened to me?

MrsGM, I have things that are so completely useless, I don't even know what category to put them with. Definitely fine to skim that off first, I think!

ItIsntJustAPhase · 16/01/2015 23:09

Iqueen, oh I agree. Illness followed by dd birthday is all. Party tomorrow but I will probably manage a cupboard here and there. Next week another big push.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/01/2015 23:09

I'm slightly concerned I'm going to walk in there at random times in the day just to open a drawer and look at it. Like sniffing glue.

didireallysaythat · 16/01/2015 23:17

I've just kondoed a bag of fabric and buttons for the school's sewing club. Happy for all of us !
