Welcome bizkit.

I still hang my jeans and trousers. I do fold my Pyjama trousers, and do this by laying one leg on top of the other, then folding in the gusset to form a regular rectangle, then folding in half and then thirds.

With cardigans, I have laid them on their backs and sorted out the front first, so depends on what the cardigan style is. E.g. waterfall cardigan pull across each side to create 3 flat layers; button cardi do up a couple. Then I have folded as with other tops, but folding in to the front of the cardi so the back creates a smooth finish. Excepting the cardigans that cry to be hung. I have found this works even with chunky knits, though my knee length chunky knits have to be laid on their side, which isn't quite as neat. They still take up massively less space though.

I hope that explains it.

Ohh I like the photos of kondo'd kids clothes....yet to tackle kids clothes (doing categories for my personal stuff first) but cannot wait to see if it can work for DD1... I may only ever see her clothes Kondo'd once, but I live in hope she might actually adopt the method even just

yongnian · 24/12/2014 16:10

Even just a little, that was meant to say!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 24/12/2014 17:10

I stayed up last night Kondo-ing the utility room and DP's work clothes which are stored there. He was adamant he needed all of them. However, once I'd finished, he realised how many he actually had and we got a small bag for the charity shop and quite a few for rags.

I almost slipped when he asked if I wanted some of his fleeces as they were new and cosy but I realised I didn't need them, put them in the charity bag and then put the bag in the car to make sure none of the items sneaked back out!

I'm staying on clothes but keep eyeing the multi-popcorn packets in the kitchen. Does anyone have a way to make multi-packs look tidier? I'm guessing I need to take the packets out and find a box, don't I? Confused

Happy Christmas everyone! I'm off to sort socks and watch a Christmas movie Xmas Grin

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 24/12/2014 17:32

Did some baking today - even though I haven't kondoed the cupboards yet it made such a difference having clear workspace to start. Usually I have to move stuff from at least one worktop and the kitchen table.

Not today! Into kitchen, ingredients out onto one worktop, scales and bowls out onto the other one, used the table for sitting tins and cooling racks on.

What a difference Grin

Thanks for the tips, I'm itching to tackle all the clothes draws but really have better things to do on Xmas eve, like pay the kids some attention! Grin
Though I have been sitting watching youtube vids on organising, there is a woman on there, I think it was mentioned on one of the other threads, alejandra, lots of vids, but she quite clearly lives in a massive house and is well off so most of her videos would be impossible for me to replicate but can still gain great ideas.

MistletoeforMissAnnersley · 24/12/2014 18:00

Oh my, I went away for a few days and come back to a whole new thread! Xmas Smile
It's damage limitation here now until after Christmas, hoping all presents coming into the house bring joy...

Pointlessfan · 24/12/2014 18:28

DH is itching to start on the loft after Xmas. I went up there today to get something and the first 4 things I spotted by the hatch all went either in the bin or to the charity shop so I'm expecting to find that 90% of what's up there is rubbish. I also found 3 nice boxes for the wardrobe - although it sounds bonkers it does seem true that the house will find ways to store things for you!

themummyonthebus · 24/12/2014 22:11

I got fed up and Kondoed my kitchen island. It's not perfect (who was talking about untidy fruit bowls?) but oh my goodness I can do several things at the same time (2 coping boards out at a time!) AMAZING.

I did the children's clothes pretty early on, it was very satisfying. I should take some photos as they've stayed in the same state for the last month or so. DC1 still has too many t-shirts but he's 4 so gets through them pretty quickly. And they all either bring him joy or are too practical to get rid of. Both have too many trousers and not enough jumpers so I was at least able to redirect the gps who seem to have a mission in life to buy as many clothes for the children as possible...

Fairly hopeful the influx of presents will not be too bad. First lot of gps were quite restrained and my parents are generally not excessive spenders. Presents from us are mostly things that are part of sets (eg happy land) or books/board games or consumables. And not too many. Considering I bought most of them before I started following Konmarie's philosophy I'm quite pleased with myself.

APlaceInTheWinter · 24/12/2014 22:21

Ohhelp I like the bread bin idea for crisps and popcorn. Thank you!

Pointless I know what you mean about the house providing storage. Last night I couldn't find a bag to put the clothes in that were going to the charity shop, but after I Kondoed DP's work clothes, I found a massive bag for life that was perfect. Meanwhile a storage box from DS' wardrobe was perfect for some items in the utility.

Justgotosleepnow · 24/12/2014 23:17

Hi just checking in, been a bit depressed lately and fallen off the kondo wagon
Trying to catch up

Violetta999 · 25/12/2014 00:19

Just looking at the children's Christmas stockings (aka pillow cases) and there's so much that needs kondoing! However I know they will bring great joy!! And Santa's bringing some practical but much needed items like pants, pens and clothing because he's a very helpful chap.

MistletoeforMissAnnersley · 25/12/2014 12:19

Merry Christmas all! Presents all lovely and mostly useful, a small pile have been set aside to be gifted to chairty shop, mainly things we already had eg coasters or gloves which hopefully someone else will be happy to receive!

themummyonthebus · 25/12/2014 14:32

Merry Christmas everyone.

Justgo, hope you're feeling better after a nice morning with your DD Smile

Lovely lot of presents, a few toys that will probably break within the next few months Grin so can be Kondoed then, but mostly useful stuff and all joy giving anyway. Better go and Kondo a few more chocolates...

Violetta999 · 25/12/2014 18:31

Hope everyone is having a relaxing festive evening. We are all slumped in front of a film now. I have managed to kondo the Christmas cracker loot without it being missed.

standingonlego · 25/12/2014 21:24

Anyone got any good ideas on how to keep the rolls of wrapping paper under control? I keep finding them!

standingonlego · 25/12/2014 21:27

Merry Christmas too everyone :) Present situation not too bad here, having the Marie kondo thinking definitely helped minimise incoming tat!

AdventuringAbout · 25/12/2014 21:40

A merry Kondo Christmas to everyone! Had the day at my DM's, so cheerfully left all wrapping and packaging for her to recycle. When we got home, DD was desperate to watch Peter Pan for the 80th time, so I settled her with that "while I bring the presents in". Which meant a good number went into a box in the car boot for the charity shop, a load went straight into the craft drawer/my emergency rainy day stash, and the rest into the living room for her to scatter about for the evening, but which then fitted tidily away. She was perfectly happy with the amount she had. Result.

Some of the bits I'm planning to donate are perfectly nice, but we don't need them and it's stuff for its own sake. My DSis said I should keep them as emergency birthday presents for other (unidentified) children. Er, no. If DD's invited to a party, we'll buy a present accordingly. No more boxes of random gifts for crises that never happen - I only end up chucking the stuff a year later!

Violetta999 · 25/12/2014 23:13

Chatted with DH today. The IL's have kindly given the kids gifts but as they don't know each other really, the gifts sadly don't suit. Seems such a waste of thier cash. DS is planning to request a secret Santa with a wish list next year. Would cut things back a little and simplify life.
