Wow, Coolcadbury It'd be serendipitous if she does want it (ask her quick :)) - I've just checked and there are 8 'large' mugs, a fairly big teapot, a jug & sugar bowl.

I thought I had 2 larger jugs (that've also never been used), but it turns out they were Jamie Oliver ones - I can remember my mum saying "you really need 2 jugs for when you serve gravy and then custard later in the meal." Why oh why did I not say "We make & serve gravy in a 2 pint pyrex jug and serve custard from the packet/can. Did I really think getting married was going to turn me into my Grandma? Hmm

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/01/2015 21:40

Hi everyone, I've not been on mn for a bit, didn't even know we were on thread 4, wow!

Anyway, I'm still doing it. Tonight I did all of the toiletries in the bathroom whilst dd was having her bath. God, it looks good. Only wish I'd taken before and after photos.

catsofa · 04/01/2015 21:50

A lot of those necklaces were my mum's btw, so the display means seeing things of hers every day and them being part of my life too. I went for a job interview recently and missed being able to call her and wail that I don't know what to wear... then I found one of her necklaces would dress up a simple top enough to make it suitable to wear to an interview. Thanks mum!

Iqueen · 04/01/2015 21:56

Ohhelpohnoitsa I don't blame you keeping your lovely bedspread and pillows till later. No way, would I risk exposing things like that to children (of any age!) Grin At least you have mentally pencilled them into a calendar, some years hence.

The new, unused, or virtually perfect stuff that is discovered in house clearances, is the sad stuff - SO special, that it could never be used. Sad

I agree with you CoolCadbury, it's good to change into lounge-wear after work, shopping, whatever. It does keep clothes looking good for longer, especially, good quality classic items.

Considering my wardrobe, prior to kondoing, I have realised that one of my most loved items is a black velvet Swing coat - it certainly does 'spark joy'. However, so far, I have only worn it for funerals! Hmm, I really must start to wear it more often... Grin

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 04/01/2015 22:07

Yay for everyone getting so much done and all the necomers and those that found us again in the New Year as we're speeding along Smile.

Ohhelpohnoitsa It's lovely to find forgotten about things, isn't it? I ended up finding a couple books I was eyeing on Amazon that I'd forgotten we already had Blush. Now I've started reading one!

I kondoed and scrubbed the kids' bath toy basket (some odd bits and very vile muck was hiding at the bottom of that little box) as well as cleared out my wicker shelves (feel almost bad as I did while DP was crashed on the couch from the bug I had a few days ago, but I did get it done earlier than I planned and far faster than I thought it would take Smile). Tomorrow I was hoping to begin the kitchen (alongside the 52 weeks thread - I may be getting a wee addicted to all the organizing Grin but with this bug still not out of this house [I dream of the house being sick free for a bit] it may be postponed for a bit. Might kondo my educational supply box instead...Grin

So chuffed. I gave my good friend the Marie kondo book this last weekend and she started decluttering in a major way today. My third friend to join up! I'm so enjoying seeing my friends using kondo.

Seff · 04/01/2015 22:15

So I spent most of the weekend reading these threads whilst feeding the baby and got stuck in today as I had loads of clothes to put away anyway. I've done most of the drawers, and have freed one up. Also did DDs clothes, school uniform and underwear as she likes to get dressed upstairs now so have free space downstairs.

Back to school tomorrow, DH at work so just me and the baby so the plan is to tackle the rest of the clothes at nap time and bits and pieces downstairs while he's awake.

I do plan on reading the book, but have been just dipping in where I can for now. I was sceptical at first with the whole thanking thing but it helped me get rid of some things that I've been hanging onto for far too long that I haven't worn in nearly 10 years in some cases Shock

You're all very inspiring!

Countyourchickens · 04/01/2015 22:35

I have done the paperwork. I didn't manage to get it into one folder and still need the concertina file but that's mostly due to having to keep tax paperwork. So far I have got rid of about about 11 bags of clothes, books and paperwork. The children's uniforms are organised for the week ahead, all drawers and cupboards are in neat rolled rows.

JKSLtd · 04/01/2015 22:42

Dh doing ok ish. Waiting for docs thoughts tomorrow and I'll go up and see him (another day written off home-wise and everywhere I look there's chaos!).

I did sort through the boys clothes, not to kondo levels but took out several bits to pass on.
Mostly checking I've got uniforms ready.

I'm going to need some boxes/baskets? For the boys wardrobes definitely if I want to store things stood up. And get my pt nanny into the folding strategy if it's going to work longer term. InMay lend her the book heehee Wink

Opheliabumps · 04/01/2015 23:01

We have been away for New Year and DH's birthday, got back last night and I could hardly wait to get started again.

All decs taken down and put away, some old, shabby ones binned, and faulty lights binned rather than DH's plan of setting them aside until he had time to look at them (ie. never).

I have also done mine and DD's underwear drawer, using some storage I bought from ikea ages ago. I could do with another storage thing for DS' drawer as they fit his and DD's drawers perfectly.
I have a problem with my knickers though, I can't get them to stand up as they're mostly just too flimsy, so I've have to cram them in like sardines to keep them tidy. Does anyone have any tricks for their nicer, silkier knickers?

DH has just tidied his underwear drawer, but hasn't rolled/folded anything, and very little has been discarded, so it's still overflowing Sad

Isabeller · 04/01/2015 23:24

I have been reading bits of the threads whenever I can since somewhere in the middle of thread 1 I think. I have just started on books and I decided getting all the books in the house in one place is beyond me so I am doing them in two areas and three broad categories. I'm starting with novels and their friends ie poetry.

I've piled up a couple of hundred in the attic ready to start really choosing tomorrow. It was really nice to see some I love and others that I immediately realised had already fulfilled their purpose in my life. I have never been able to get rid of books but thanks to Konmari I feel confident I will be able to reduce my collection to those that really do bring joy.

Thank you inspiring kondoers :)

upandawayy · 04/01/2015 23:40

This thread is definitely inspiring isabeller just how I feel too. Moved onto bedding today as I thought they might be connected to clothes somehow. We are now down to six duvet sets which still seems like an awful lot but happy to have cleared the other six we are getting rid of. Like others, I've rekondoed (love how to kondo has become a verb) my clothes and put aside a few more things to get rid of. I can't tell you the weight that's been lifted knowing all my tops and clothes are down to one drawer (apart from some dresses hanging up), no more bags of clothes haunting me round the house.

I have been focused by two things. One is not leaving my kids to have to sort through all my crap one day, and two, I want to enjoy my time with them more. I'm on mat leave and I don't want to spend my time tidying up, I want to spend it with them.

catsofa · 04/01/2015 23:52

OK I think I just did the most fun tidying task ever - I washed all the stuff I've been accumulating for the new baby, and organised it by size. First time I've ever had all my radiators covered in little tiny sleepsuits and socks!

Discovered that you can hang babygrows on drying racks etc by doing up the crotch poppers around the bars, so they all hang securely upside down and don't fall off. I am all ready to be a mum now...

CheerfulYank · 05/01/2015 01:00

I'm in the thick of clothes right now and it is exhausting. We just have so. Much. Crap.

Someone tell me to go on! Tell me it will happen and be amazing!

catsofa · 05/01/2015 01:48

CheerfulYank the more crap you have to start with, the more amazing it will be, you'll be able to free up so much space! Glad someone else is still going at this time in the morning! Grin

CheerfulYank · 05/01/2015 02:42

Well I'm American so it's not quite 9 pm here :o

WhatKatyDidToday · 05/01/2015 06:27

I'm following avidly and have started on my clothes. I've tried getting hold of the book, but it's sold out everywhere I've looked!Grin Reading through the thread motivates me- I have a busy life, my husband and I both work and have 3 children who all do various clubs etc and I used to use this as an excuse for not doing stuff, but I now realise that you all have busy lives too and you're all managing. So I've had a word with myself! THANKYOU Grin

VioletandRoger · 05/01/2015 06:55

Catsofa how cute!

middleagedbread · 05/01/2015 07:11

Got through another two book cases yesterday, just two more to go. I have eleven massive bags (those Tesco shoppers) stuffed with books. I don't think that a charity shop would be able to cope. Wondering whether to do a car boot but never go to those and wonder if they would be full of other people selling loads of books.

The shelves I have freed up are now accumulating my craft stuff (now carefully organised and boxed) for the projects I plan to do in 2015 Grin.

VioletandRoger · 05/01/2015 07:26

Sell them to a secondhand bookshop

VioletandRoger · 05/01/2015 07:27

Cheerful I had tons of crap too!! All gone now and it feels and looks amazing!!

VioletandRoger · 05/01/2015 07:30

Upaway I have had to ignore my kids a bit to get through all the crap but my sole aim (about a week away) is to make life easier for everyone and spend more time with my kids

upandawayy · 05/01/2015 07:40

middleagedbread do you have an oxfam bookshop near you? We took them 150 books at the weekends and about 30 dvds and they didn't mind

Pointlessfan · 05/01/2015 07:43

Catsofa, I still get a little thrill seeing all the baby clothes hanging on the line and mine is now 9 months! She has now dropped a feed so I'm finding it harder to keep up with this thread!

upandawayy · 05/01/2015 07:45

That's great to hear you're so close violet! I've had to do the same or get them to 'help' me but one is three and the is five months old. Although admittedly my three year old has been pretty helpful. My five months old limit is sitting in a box whilst I clear out round her
