Is there a knack to it? I'm at the verge of giving up Shock

I have never in my life ironed them so can't help, sorry

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 17/10/2014 13:26

Only ever iron the pillow cases. NEVER the rest. Complete waste of time.

PerpendicularKitten · 17/10/2014 14:34

I'd give up, have a glass of wine instead and then when you do climb into bed you won't notice the creases!

Tbf, when I do iron I find that the best way is to cover the dining room table with a blanket and then a cotton sheet (the table has a heat protector on it anyway), that way I have a huge surface to work on. I used to iron sheets, fitted sheets were a pain and I just used to do the edges.

Siarie · 17/10/2014 14:38

Take them to a dry cleaners, that's what I've learnt. I do it for guests but I don't bother with myself.

My guests have all commented on how they appreciated ironed sheets so I do think people notice.

mouselittle · 17/10/2014 21:58

I fold in half, iron then turn over and do the other half.
fitted sheets I just iron the middle section.

chipsandpeas · 17/10/2014 21:59

i dont iron them, on the chance im expecting company i'll run the iron over the duvet cover while on the bed

ireallydontlikemonday · 17/10/2014 22:03

Don't! Learn to fold wellWink

joanofarchitrave · 17/10/2014 22:03

Do you mean duvet covers or counterpanes?

If duvet covers, spend a few extra seconds spreading them out properly to hang to dry. Then fold before you iron, and iron every side you can find, including refolding them inside out if you have to.

I don't have counterpanes. Easy solution.

Greencheese · 17/10/2014 22:03

I ironed mine once in my life, especially for my wedding day, cause the photographer was taking photos of me in our bedroom getting ready and I didn't want scruffy bedding in the photos. Ha ha. Never bothered since.

Finola1step · 17/10/2014 22:03

Sheets? You iron sheets?

My cleaning and tidying standards are pretty good. I quite enjoy giving the place a good going over do I'm no slattern. Ironing is a drudge though. I never iron duvet covers and it really has never occurred to me to iron a sheet.

Finola1step · 17/10/2014 22:05

So not do!

FelixTitling · 17/10/2014 22:05

People don't really do this do they?

joanofarchitrave · 17/10/2014 22:06

I adore freshly ironed flat linen but went over to the dark side fitted sheets a couple of years after having ds - no regrets. I still iron duvet covers, it's better than a crack habit and ironing is a great chore as you can watch telly or listen to the radio and still have a glow of virtue. And nobody can expect you to do anything else.

RonaldMcDonald · 17/10/2014 22:10

i have crumpled linen now
vair nice

chocomochi · 17/10/2014 22:30

Have only ever ironed them when we had house guests. For a single bed, it's quite easy to pull the ironed bit of sheets/covers to the side furthest away from you (similar to using a sewing machine). For doubles, I also do the folding method.

Cba to iron for myself though.

scrimper · 20/10/2014 07:12

I don't bother! Smile

WestEast · 20/10/2014 07:17

My DP asked why I don't do them as his mum always did him Hmm he tried doing then and now understands why I don't bother!

Pipbin · 20/10/2014 07:21

What are you struggling to iron? I do the pillowcases and the duvet cover, but not the sheet.
Also, when I have them all nicely ironed and folded I put it all in one of the pillowcases and then you know it is a set straight away.
And yes to ironing being a chore you can do while watching telly. I save up Homes Under The Hammer to watch.

Twinklestar2 · 20/10/2014 09:24

I find I iron one bit and cause the ironing board is thin, when that bit falls to the floor it crumples again!!

TranquilityofSolitude · 20/10/2014 09:28

I iron all down one side, turn it 90 degrees, and iron along the top (or bottom), turn it 90 degrees again and iron up the other side. Ironing along those 3 sides tends to cover it all. If there's a patch in the middle I've missed I fold it in 4 and iron the middle bit.

FuckyNell · 20/10/2014 09:31

I iron the cover when I put it on the bed. Easy peasy.

lavendersun · 20/10/2014 09:32

I iron my duvet covers and pillowcases - feels so lovely when they are ironed. Mine are linen or cotton/linen so look terrible if not ironed.

I fold in half, iron both top sides and then unfold and iron down the centre. My ironing board is big though.

I have thought about buying an iron press thing but don't want something that just gathers dust.

tibbysmum · 20/10/2014 09:33

I change the bed far too often to even consider ironing sheets, actually I'd never consider it anyway...

Chippychop · 24/10/2014 22:36

I iron guests bedding and Xmas bedding and always pillowcases I've also found that a large bed throw hides a lot of creases! Grin

DraaaamaghAlpacaaaagh · 24/10/2014 22:41

I tumble dry mine & fold when still warm so they don't need ironing in my very slovenly opinion

I borrowed a lot of bedlinen from my SIL once when I had guests. She made it quite clear she expected them to come back ironed Shock. I took them all to the dry cleaner, there was no way I was ironing them.
