Kärcher Window Vac - anybody have/use one?

PacificDogwood · 09/10/2014 20:43

This one here

Is it any good?

When I first saw the ad I thought it looked like the gadget did everything i.e. cleaning and vaccing, but no: you clean first, then vac the dirty water off the window pane.

Does it make a big difference to cleaning windows? I use a micro fibre cloth, followed by a squeegee and wipe the water that runs down as I go along, but would this change my life??

I am really considering it for DH who Likes A Gadget

Thinking of getting one for shower screen/tiling - will it do this without having to fiddle about emptying it? Checked and reservoir is only 100ml, doesn't sound very big...

Truelymadlysleepy · 15/10/2014 16:56

I wondered about that too.
Also, presumably it needs to be charged so couldn't be left in a bathroom?

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 15/10/2014 19:49

Is it for use on the outside of windows, or just inside?

PacificDogwood · 15/10/2014 20:51

I go away for a few days and lots more fans come out of the woodworks Grin

Thank you very much to those who were not totally convinced, too - particularly helpful to see your comments.

So, I am not looking for a bargain. I think I'd like the small and the larger blade, but am not bothered about any of the other bits.

Right, I, getting one! John Lewis £48. Bargain.

PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 12:22

I may have to follow you to JL - I am looking for a bargain, not sure where the 'not' came from in my previous post Hmm

PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 12:25

And there's £10 cash-back

This is going to sound really stupid now but what does the £10 cash back part actually mean? Does it mean £10 off basically? Does that mean it's £38?

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 17/10/2014 19:06

I love MN!! Ive been procrastining about this bit of kit for the condensation. And not only are you all giving good revireviews theres a link with £10 off!

Greencheese having had a look at the JL site etc... you pay full price then go to the Karcher site enter some details and then need to send your receipt and barcode of the products box to an adress. Upon receiving they will refund the £10.

PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 19:23

It's a bit of a faff but worth it IMO Grin

PicandMinx · 17/10/2014 19:32

I love mine. I have an old house, lots of windows, lots of condensation - I can whip around the whole house in about ten minutes in the morning. Fabulous bit of kit.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/10/2014 20:11

I'm thinking of getting one for the condensation in the bathroom...

Greencheese · 17/10/2014 20:21

I'm actually excited about going to John Lewis tomorrow now, I'm so easily pleased Grin

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 17/10/2014 20:23

Completely worth the faff! The condensation drives my fucking bonkers at winter. Going around most windows with a cloth! Now that is faff.

Ive sold the idea to DH and im buying it. Condensation you bastard, you're having it Grin.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 17/10/2014 20:35

Can I ask again please - is it just for the insides of windows? Thanks.

PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 20:43

Oh, I meant the whole cash back rigmarole is a 'faff', not the actual device Grin

Hia, I think it can be used to inside or outside - window cleaning and the like, no?

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 17/10/2014 21:16

Great, thanks. Unjust wondered if it could cope with outdoor dirt, bird poo etc Smile

unlucky83 · 17/10/2014 21:31

I've got a Leifheit (?)one ...it was £35 in the amazon flash sale last year.
I love it - I wet wash my windows inside and out - upstairs they open in and with a squeegee I got drips on the carpet and had to put down a floor cover. With this I don't need to. Also my seals are perished and I get black gunk coming off - it used to be really easy to smear it everywhere - this makes it much easier to deal with.
Also if they are really dirty outside (like after I jet washed the outside sills) I wash, use the window vac for a quick run over and then wash again 'properly' with clean water.

I do find I have to give then a quick wipe over round the edges after (like using a squeegee) - but it more than halves the time.
But as everyone else has said I think the best use is for condensation and shower/shower screen fantastic...(also doing your tiles/shower screen reduces the moisture in the air - it dries off into the air - so reduces condesation.
I charge mine up and leave in the bathroom cupboard - only needs recharging every few weeks and just empty the water down the sink after use.

Thinking of getting one for shower screen/tiling - will it do this without having to fiddle about emptying it? Posted this earlier, but no-one has really said anything about how often you have to empty reservoir - 100ml doesn't sound very big!

unlucky83 · 18/10/2014 09:54

can't speak for the Karcher one but my Leifheit one has a little rubber plug thing on the side - it takes a few seconds to empty. Don't think it is full when I do just do and I've never measured it but after I've done the shower screen & cubicle I think it probably has less than 50ml in it.

PurpleWithRed · 18/10/2014 09:59

inside and outside windows. And anything else flat and wet too - I've used it to dry our (tiny) kitchen floor after it's been mopped to prevent people walking across it while it's still wet because that drives me nuts.

Am thinking of taking it down to the greenhouse next.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2014 17:05

They are 48 in Argos, is it a tenner off back from wherever you buy?Confused

Ruhrpott · 18/10/2014 22:37

Yes the cashback is from karcher and it doesn't matter where you buy it. You have to fill in a form and send it off with your receipt and barcode from the box then you get a cheque sent in the post. Only valid till end of October though.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2014 22:43

Thank you, I'll get it from Argos then and of I hate it I can take it back. I'll nip out tomorrow and get it and report back!Grin

Behoove · 18/10/2014 22:48

I have a feeling there are going to be some very clean and dry windows throughout the UK this weekend Grin
