Lots of ikea expedit and lots of the coloured boxes that go in it!

Slowdownsally · 01/10/2014 22:35

I'm going to get a unit with open box draws so that I can dump them all in different ones. There is a monstrous pile escaping across my lounge right now, so that needs boxing and sorting too.

I feel overwhelmed by it all, so watching with interest for ideas...

Only1scoop · 01/10/2014 22:39

Ikea kallax or expedit as it was ....the canvas boxes to fit in....

We have one on its side under the window with a cushion on top as a window seat it stores heaps of toys

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/10/2014 22:40

Ikea Visla storage boxes under beds, you can fit about ten under a standard single bed Grin
I do a toy rotation every couple of months then Smile

Lala83 · 01/10/2014 22:40

Read the secret magic of tidying thread. Chances are none of your children's toys bring you joy and you can just hoy them all in the charity bag.

Seriously, I just stick them all under the bed and wait for him to get bored of what he is playing with. We have been on matchbox cars for the last four months without rotation. I occasionally try to tempt him with a jigsaw but it's futile really.

Either they are stored well and never accessed, or all over the floor in my experience.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 01/10/2014 22:44

Argos pine storage cubes that standard plastic crates fit in downstairs.

Deep floor to ceiling shelves that crates fit on across from the chimney breast in DD2's room.

Odd plastic boxes floor or bottom of wardrobe in DD1's much smaller room

Coffeeinthepark · 01/10/2014 22:55

3 wicker boxes in an expedit bookcase then several large plastic ikea boxes with inserts and lids for the definable categories - duplo, tea set, trains and cars. Small lego in a lego box but we are going to find something wide and very low instead for that so they can see what they have without tipping it all out

gamerchick · 01/10/2014 22:59

I've got the idea step thing with different coloured buckets slotted in.

They hold a surprising and impressive amount of stuff Grin

gamerchick · 01/10/2014 23:00

*ikea

Groovester · 01/10/2014 23:11

Another IKEA Expedit fan here. This was it when we first bought it. It's now filled with a rainbow of canvas boxes.

Children's bedroom storage (mostly toys) what do you do?
bramblina · 01/10/2014 23:14

Holy Moly is that your child's bedroom? Mine isn't all that bad but oh how I love your tidiness, colour co-ordination and the general way it looks! I aspire......one day! Ikea it is then, huh folks??!!

Groovester · 01/10/2014 23:16

I am a bit of a neat freak but to be fair, the pic was taken just after we'd decorated and put the new furniture in. It's not always quite so tidy!!!

gamerchick · 01/10/2014 23:16

I'll tell you it's not hard. Ikea do awesome stuff and although it looks small in the shop it really isn't once you've put it together.

I love ikea me.. I'm going soon and the husband did a big groan when he heard Grin

stargirl1701 · 01/10/2014 23:20

We have very few toys. We do toy rotation and have a one in, one out policy.

Billynomates71 · 01/10/2014 23:21

Bramblina - our kids bedrooms are a never ending battle against junk trash and toys. You are not alone! Every now and then (when they are out somewhere, a party etc, and just before Christmas and birthdays because then they don't notice) I take a few bin bags in and just get rid of a load of stuff. Mostly crap, some stuff makes it to the charity shop, but not a lot.

ilovehotsauce · 01/10/2014 23:32

Can I jump on trofast or kallax?

Openup41 · 02/10/2014 07:39

A large toy box in lounge and under bed storage in room.

bramblina · 03/10/2014 00:13

Thank you, all. Oh how I do love MN!!!

Expedit again here. Big success.
And declutter too!
My dc respond really positively to less.

Coffeeinthepark · 03/10/2014 13:00

The only thing my kids really consistently play with is LEGO. I am not going to be buying any more bulky games - They are such a Waste of space

StepDoor · 03/10/2014 13:03

Ikea expedit. Love it.

BeCool · 03/10/2014 14:37

The beauty of Expedit (or whatever the new version is called) is that you can do so much with it.

So I have parts of our 4x4 devoted to:
books - lots of books
night light
decorative items (on display)
DD1's personal stuff
hair stuff/jewelery
dolls, clothes, & other doll stuff
jigsaw puzzles
couple of random toy boxes
art supplies/paper etc & drawers with stick on stuff etc
etc

and other large puzzles/games etc stacked on top.

We also use a 2x2 for:
PJ's
DD1 shoes
DD2 shoes
bulky winter wear
with clothes drawers stacked on top of it.

PigletJohn · 03/10/2014 18:21

I like shelves and crates, unless DC is of an age to climb or pull the top crate down and be underneath it.

yomellamoHelly · 06/10/2014 12:54

We had Expedit. Now have small (6 hole) Expedit rip-off and 1 1/2 Pax wardrobes (outgrew the one big unit) in main playroom / 1 bedroom. Have 2 Aspace units with drawer at bottom and pigeon holes above in another bedroom and 2 similar Feather & Black units with canvas storage at bottom and mix of shelves and cupboards above in the other bedroom. Dd also has prams etc under her bed! Am hoping we get to the stage where the stash starts shrinking soon! Quite like hiding away as much as possible so it doesn't look too "busy" come nighttime.

Oldraver · 07/10/2014 20:58

DS has two extra deep tall bookcases from Argos. I had looked at Ikea Expedit but the bookcases were the same depth but a lot taller.

In his bedroom he has shelving in his dormer window with two of [[http://direct.asda.com/Wham-Blueberry-100L-Storage-Cart---2-pack/BUNSTOR1911A29,default,pd.html these]], they wheel out from under the shelving that has other boxes above. They are big enough one has all his Duplo (he refuses to aprt with) and the other all his Octonauts stuff.

I have converted a double bed base into a lego table with shelving underneath and can be converted back to a bed when needed
