Are you loyal to any particular supermarket?

They're all different but also I guess somewhat similar, so why do you choose where you go?

Also do you find you shop online for groceries?

I go to Aldi, because it costs me only 60% of what my bill used to be like when I went to Sainsburys, and I can also be in and out in 2/3 of the time. The quality is excellent.
What's not to like ?

Mrsgrumble · 19/09/2014 16:54

I go to lidl or aldi due to price but regularly do my weekly shop at a local independant supermarket due to tiredness/convenience

ilovepowerhoop · 19/09/2014 16:58

dh goes to Asda at the weekend for the main food shopping - it is in the next town. I go to Tesco, Morrisons and recently Aldi for other bits and pieces through the week (Morrisons is at the school and Tesco/Aldi are near the Sports Centre).

worldgonecrazy · 19/09/2014 17:01

I shop at Waitrose, Lidl, Aldi and Sainsburys, but I would say my loyalties lie with Waitrose. I like their ethics and that is extremely important to me, and I am grateful to be able to make that choice.

HopefulHamster · 19/09/2014 17:07

Since my son learned to walk, going to real life supermarkets is a pain, so I normally use Ocado seeing as they very rarely substitute. May cost a little more so I purchase offers and plan carefully.

We occasionally need top-ups, in which case I like Sainsbos and Waitrose (if there was one local). Tesco has gone downhill in recent years and I don't like Asda at all (ones nearbyish tend to be so large I struggle to find stuff). Don't go to Aldi/Lidl due to lack of easy transport to them in the week.

ilovepowerhoop · 19/09/2014 17:07

we dont have a waitrose or sainsburys close to us so they are not an option

ilovepowerhoop · 19/09/2014 17:07

also dont have an ocado

evertonmint · 19/09/2014 17:08

We're very much not loyal here: in the past 2 months we've used Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose, Budgens, Co-Op, M&S and Lidl plus the local deli, green grocer and butcher, all of them at least a couple of times.

We tend to make the week's shopping list then work out where to go - Asda & Tesco if we need to do a bulk buy of household goods with the food shop, Sainsburys or Waitrose if it's really just food as we like particular things they sell, Lidl for odd bits and Co-Op, Budgens and M&S for convenience/top up.

LizzieMint · 19/09/2014 17:09

Nope, no loyalty to any. (Or banks, or energy providers or anything else!)
I shop at different ones for different things, regularly go to Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, sainsburys and waitrose. Only don't use asda and morrisons because they are the furthest away from me.
Even though I'm not loyal, I do love waitrose, the shopping experience is just much more pleasant.

JadeJ123 · 19/09/2014 17:09

Waitrose, go every week

usualsuspect333 · 19/09/2014 17:12

Nope, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, The Co Op, Iceland.

I do prefer Asda though.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/09/2014 17:31

Our local Aldi is about 20 miles away, and a horrible, horrible car park - impossible to get a space. Also, I hate that you're restricted for time. I went there once, as I'd heard such good reports about it, but I do like to take my time to browse, and browsing takes longer in an unfamiliar place, so I don't think in the time allowed I was able to give a very fair assessment.

Don't have a Lidl anywhere near, more's the pity. I would pop in there from time to time.

Waitrose is my favourite for food, choice, staff attitude (not always) (and ethics) and where I do my main shops.
Sainsbury's I've found really good just lately for discounted home products (ornaments, towels, etc)

Hate Tesco, but do pop in from time to time as it is the closest to us, the bank and the dentist. (But make a point of not spending too much in there - just emergency items)!! Grin

Clayhead · 19/09/2014 17:32

Lidl with a bit of Aldi and Waitrose

crossandcrosser · 19/09/2014 17:32

Waitrose, have a staff discount Grin

BunnyLebowski · 19/09/2014 17:35

I tend to stick to Sainsburys because it's nearest and best value for money. Ocado when I can't be arsed doing it in person.

Waitrose and Marks are too expensive for full shop but I do nip to one or the other most weeks for steak/wine/naice snack food.

I would happily shop at Asda or Morrison's but they're too far away and their online shopping is crap.

Hate Aldi with a passion and would only go there if we were so skint we had no choice.

strawberryshoes · 19/09/2014 17:35

Waitrose.

I like their ethics, produce range, staff attitude and the size and location of the shop.

Viviennemary · 19/09/2014 17:36

I hate Tesco's. With their rubbish fruit and veg and unhelpful staff. Sainsbury's is the best all round one so that's my favourite. Don't like Aldi. I like brands.

Dropdeadfred2 · 19/09/2014 17:38

waitrose or marks and spencers

BunnyLebowski · 19/09/2014 17:38

YY Viv Tesco meat is atrocious. I wouldn't go there either.

I'm a brand person too. I haven't bought a single own brand item that has been as good as never mind better than the branded one I buy. Aldi laundry detergent being a case in point. Horrible stuff that left my washing smelling fusty. Doesn't happen with Fairy and Lenor.

123Jump · 19/09/2014 17:38

I use Tesco on line for household stuff-toiletries, detergents, nappies etc. and use my local butcher for all meat, and local shops for last minute bits and bobs.
However, I think I would go into a decline if I no longer lived near an M&S. I have a Simply Food very near, and a large food and dept store one 10 mins drive away.
I spend so much money in M&S every month!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 19/09/2014 17:39

Waitrose, as it is near where I work, love the food, fantastic service, staff that can speak English fluently and are helpful and courteous. And you don't have to faff about finding a pound coin for the trolly.

123Jump · 19/09/2014 17:40

Should have said no Waitrose in Ireland, however, I've used the one in Marlow whenever over in UK, and. I still prefer M&S.
Agree. Tesco fresh stuff is a bit rank.

rabbit123 · 20/09/2014 13:47

Sainsburys, purely because it's the nearest and we save up the nectar points for the christmas shopping. We only spent £15 on food and drink last christmas thanks to the nectar points.

We do, however, get all our meat, fruit and veg from Abel & Cole.

daisydee43 · 20/09/2014 14:21

i do tesco online. 1hr slots, they bring shopping to kitchen if u want and never had subs. did do aldi for a while but got bored on lack of choice and having to go to another supermarket to top up plus pg now so the bags for life are heavy

daisydee43 · 20/09/2014 14:25

ps after reading other posts i would say asdas fresh stuff is worse than tesco - really cant afford the next supermarket up but do go morrisons on way home to buy main meals. will shop in m&s when i get a lovely paid job Smile
