Are you loyal to any particular supermarket?

They're all different but also I guess somewhat similar, so why do you choose where you go?

Also do you find you shop online for groceries?

Used to go to tesco but started using lidl and now I resent the prices at tesco and all the ridiculous offers that make it hard to work out what to buy e.g. which one of 56 sorts of cheddar! So now I use lidl, local veg place, farm shop deli and riverford veg boxes.

annoyedofnorwich · 20/09/2014 14:53

Oh and m and s if I'm near one!

DustWitch · 20/09/2014 15:05

Yes, Aldi. I really resent paying more at other supermarkets now, I can't see us shopping anywhere else. It takes us 20 minutes to do a weekly shop and we spend on average £60 a week for four of us, which includes breakfast, lunches and dinners, toiletries, cleaning stuff and the odd bottle of drink.

specialsubject · 20/09/2014 15:11

nope, loyalty to business is for suckers.

at the moment main shop is Aldi, occasional big delivery of bread and stuff from Tesco (£1 slot). For the odd luxury such as coffee beans, I use the Sainsbo in the town but rarely otherwise as it is expensive.

we are north of Watford so no Waitrose - used to use them when I had a time-pushing wellpaid job and passed them on the way home. But have learned since.

no such thing as an ethical supermarket in my opinion.

WingsClipped · 23/09/2014 11:13

We used Ocado. Hardly any substitutes plus they stock Waitrose stuff and give me free wine Grin

BeCool · 23/09/2014 11:39

Not at all - I shop at them all!

I prefer Lidl/Aldi because I love them and their prices, but sadly there are none near me so I only get to one, once a month or so & then I do big stock up of all I like there.

Supplemented with other 'biggish' shops at tesco or Sainsburys - one or 2 a month.

And them I pic up bit, bobs, bread, milk etc at M&S and Waitrose both are on high street near work, and fruit and vege from our local stall which is quite good.

Occasional online shop with Ocado if they send me a voucher - I though I would do more online shopping since becoming a SP, as I work FT, but I find it easier to shop as I go most of the time.

And I absolutely do not believe it when people say Ocado is the same price as Tesco/Sains etc - it isn't. Though they do have some good offers.

Tipsykisses · 23/09/2014 11:56

Weekly ocado shop & meal plan around whatever the current offers are .
Also top up with aldi & local shops .

mummybear701 · 23/09/2014 18:11

I do Tesco online which is brilliant though I have to stay at home until it arrives. For shopping in store I mainly use Tesco or Morrisons out of convenience, they get much the same brands and their own products are similar. Aldi is good for fast and cheap shopping but the quality is not very good.

OnlyLovers · 23/09/2014 18:26

No, I shop wherever is convenient, which is different from day to day and week to week. From Morrisons to Waitrose and all points in between.

I do tend to go to independent/family-run places over the chains when possible, though, for things like tins and fruit and veg. I think they need the money more and my local ones are so nice and friendly.

PerpendicularKitten · 24/09/2014 07:05

I have a mental list of things that I only buy at certain supermarkets so I shop at Ocardo (who I have discovered I need to re-register with using a new e-mail to get better offers), Tesco, Sainsburys and the occasional lazy trip to waitrose.

Meat comes from the butchers and if I'm really on form I spend £10 in the fruit and veg shop for a weeks worth.

We have Aldi and Lidl but they are both about half and hours drive away (both in different directions) so I haven't made time to go yet but I'm guessing the drive will be worth it?

Sandthorn · 24/09/2014 08:31

Loyal? Definitely not! I mostly use Sainsbury's for the main shop, because that's the main supermarket nearby, and it caters better for my sensibilities than surrounding, bigger supermarkets. But I usually don't go there until I've ransacked Home Bargains for whatever I can cross off my list on the cheap. And I check Lidl and the local fruit & veg stalls first, because the quality is great, and the prices amazing. I try to avoid Tesco, but will sell out if I'm in a hurry and there's nothing else in hitting distance. Aldi's good for the occasional browse, but I prefer Lidl. Waitrose, or M&S are good for one or two deli treats, if I'm passing, but I don't think the quality of their everyday stuff is better than other places... Certainly not enough to justify the inflated prices! I haven't been in Asda since I lived a five minute walk from one, and used to find their vegetables a pretty miserable affair.

samesizetoes · 24/09/2014 21:25

Tesco or Morrisons for the £1 online delivery for when we need the heavy items that are a pain to carry with no car, just depends on how much we need to spend that time (tesco have a lower minimum spend) and lidl is our corner shop. So always popping in there for a pint of milk and coming out with a lawnmower Confused

Purplevicki · 24/09/2014 21:33

Nope. I'm a supermarket whore

honeysucklejasmine · 25/09/2014 11:27

For the last month or so I've been shopping at Aldi. There was one in a local large town but I hated it, but have discovered one in a closer, smaller town in the other direction that is lovely. Friendly staff, great stock, no problem parking. Just got back this morning as it happens.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2014 11:33

We stick to Tesco, mainly because we have spent so much there over the years that our clubcard vouchers are worth four times face value when we spend them on the clubcard deals - this means that we can save up the vouchers, and use them to take the family out for meals from time to time, and when we do, we can tell the boys (hungry teenagers/students) that they can order what they like off the menu. No way we could afford to do this otherwise.

Plus I know the Tesco products and ranges that I use well, and I tend to make up the week's menu with that knowledge in mind - and on the odd occasion where I have tried to do the weekly shop in another supermarket, I have found that they don't do the products they want, or they are in different pack sizes - so it is just easier to stick with what I know.

helzapoppin2 · 25/09/2014 13:55

I go to Morrisons for a good basics shop. They can have some good bargains in everyday stuff. Otherwise, I go to all of the others, just to keep it interesting.

daisydee43 · 25/09/2014 14:17

sdtg - ive only recently started shopping in tesco again. delivery ok bit better than asda i spose, no subs. just wondered when do you get your vouchers posted? i heard it was oct?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2014 14:21

Off the top of my head, I think it is every three months, daisy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2014 14:22

Sorry - posted too soon - I don't recall seeing any arrive recently so it could be October that the next ones are due out.

ouryve · 25/09/2014 14:26

We divide the bulk of our shopping between Sainsburys and M&S. Sometimes we get an online order from Sainsburys and I have a midweek pass for that. We have both a Tesco and Asda closer than our large Sainsburys, but both of those stores make me stabby and I find it impossible to do a week's shop there because the quality of the fresh produce is so poor.

RiverTam · 25/09/2014 14:27

I mainly go to Sainsbo's as it's the nearest and I'm used to it and I like a lot of their stuff. Plus Sainsbury's own brand toiletries are BUAV approved, I think the only other supermarkets to tick that box are the Co-op and M&S.

Don't do online shopping. I like Tesco's Simply wine range for some cheap but nice plonk.

Morrison's and Asda do the best fresh bread. Co-op and Asda do nice pizzas.

We do have a Lidl but I wouldn't be able to get everything there, plus it's like shopping in a prison.

daisydee43 · 25/09/2014 15:14

does anyone know delivery costs for ocado? seems like it has no charge

TempsPerdu · 25/09/2014 15:21

Not especially loyal, but I shop mainly at Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Have a strong dislike of Tesco, and try to avoid them where I can. Usually buy basics from Sainsbury's, with specific items/top-ups from Waitrose. Would like to give Aldi/Lidl a go as keep hearing rave reviews, but none nearby as yet.

For the past six months or so we've been buying all our fruit and veg from the local market - been something of a revelation, despite the extra effort. Fresh, great quality and so much cheaper. Fish from local fishmonger - trying to shop locally as much as possible.

Nocturne123 · 25/09/2014 16:16

Very loyal to lidl , I love it ! Then buy any baby stuff like formula/nappies from tesco but all food from lidl /local butchers or fish van

ExpiredUserName · 25/09/2014 16:32

Mostly I just hate all my local supermarkets. Sadly I have no lidl, morrisons or Aldi. I have Waitrose, marks, sainsburys and tescos locally - dislike all of them
I can't stand all the tricksy pricing. Buy one get one free or similar - they drive me crazy. They are designed to confuse. I'm not on a budget but I hate the feeling of being played all the time.
I'm happy to pay for decent quality food but want simpler fairer pricing.
...so, I have no loyalty to any supermarket.
