...with all our plates? I am a dishwasher newbie and don't know the rules!

Thanks!

I do it with our cats' bowls. But there will be some who come on here shrieking noooooo what about the germs.

TBH, I'm more pissed off about the fleas our cats have acquired than the germs on their foodbowls going into my hot dishwasher.

atticusclaw · 11/09/2014 14:35

erm? no? Why would it be?

My friend puts her pelvic floor muscle exerciser in the dishwasher after use (I definitely wouldn't do that!)

MrsBungle · 11/09/2014 14:36

I don't see why it would be.

Thurlow · 11/09/2014 14:40

I would. However it seems to be a rather divisive topic on here. But then I suspect many posters have a much higher standard of cleanliness than I do...

murphys · 11/09/2014 14:52

Um, yes I don't see why not. I put the dogs bowls in mine...

Just as an aside, what is a pelvic floor muscles exerciser?? It is a gadget that you, er, put inside you??

MirandaWest · 11/09/2014 14:56

I put them in the dishwasher. None of us has suffered any ill effects yet Smile

FuckyNell · 11/09/2014 14:57

Yes the dishwasher sterilises stuff doesn't it?

BertieBotts · 11/09/2014 14:59

You'd wash them in the same washing up bowl wouldn't you?

As long as they're dishwasher safe no issue at all.

Cat food is no worse than, say, milk that's gone rancid in a cereal bowl, or the chopping board or knife you used to cut raw chicken, and you wouldn't think twice about putting those kind of things in there.

TipseyTorvey · 11/09/2014 15:02

I don't, but I can't really justify why not. Just think animal things should stay away from people things. I wash them up in the utility room with clothes and wellies rather than the same place as we eat. DH thinks am batty.....

PigletJohn · 11/09/2014 15:58

if you had stroked the cat, would you wash your hands in a special basin?

TipseyTorvey · 11/09/2014 16:16

(grin) at Piglet - no, you're absolutely right I wouldn't, I realise it's daft but I'm sticking to it!

furcoatbigknickers · 11/09/2014 16:17

Of course! its not, i do it all the time

atticusclaw · 11/09/2014 18:03

murphys as I understand it its like one of those wrist exerciser thingies but you insert it and then squeeze from the inside.

MrsBungle · 11/09/2014 18:05

piglet john the voice of reason (as usual!)

Yes I do

CabbagePatchCheryl · 11/09/2014 18:21

I don't have a dishwasher anymore but when I did I always used to put the cat bowl in there. Dishwasher use very hot water so it all gets properly clean. If you're handwashing it, you definitely shouldn't use the same sponge as for the rest of the washing up. Bleurk.

BerylStreep · 13/09/2014 23:05

I do.

WitchWay · 13/09/2014 23:17

I hand wash the cat things in the utility room sink with a separate sponge.

Sometimes I put the toothbrushes in the dishwasher if a bit grotty, but never the loo brush - urgh Confused

smokeandglitter · 13/09/2014 23:24

I sometimes do.

2old2beamum · 19/09/2014 17:37

GrinGrin DD needs bowel washouts and I heard of a "lady" who put her rectal washout tube in dishwasher Shock bauk!!!

Mostlyjustaluker · 20/09/2014 19:17

The dishwasher should sterilise it. So I put cat bowls in dishwasher but would not wash them in human dishes.

I think putting them in the dishwasher is the best way to stop the spread of germs.

LynetteScavo · 20/09/2014 19:38

Of course you can wash them with human dishes.... Everything gets sterilised on a hot wash.

Mostlyjustaluker · 20/09/2014 20:59

I don't think the water from the taps is hot enough to sterilise.

mooth · 20/09/2014 21:02

I put our dog's bowl in ours.
