Here we go again- a new month to whip our houses into shape!

If you're suffering from CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) and STUFF (something that undermines family fun) then you need Flylady.

Don't sign up for emails on the Flylady website as you'll be inundated. Everything you need to know will be posted in the thread on a daily basis.

Depending on the stage you're at with FL you'll be:

  1. Starting or repeating FL's babysteps.
  1. Repeating babysteps + decluttering for 15 minutes per day in current zone.
  1. Reinforce babysteps + daily missions if you'vefinished decluttering.

4.Number 3 and detailed cleaning anyone here yet??!

Bear in mind:

  1. You're never behind!
  1. No perfectionism allowed.
  1. Your house did not get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy overnight.

Some of the fledglings have been chatting and flying on MN for 10 years. I still think of myself as a newbie sometimes (even though I've been here for 2+ years!). Everyone's welcome! Old timers, newbies and lurkers alike, come and share your ta das, to dos and a whole lot more Smile

Sorry for lack of OP links - am posting on the laptop that time forgot and am just keeping my fx that the OP posts!

Will be back on August 31st (pretty late probably!) with links for the 1st September.

Toffee - that video Grin

Well had another baby scan and baby Ellis no.2 is doing ok. Had a lovely trainee doing my scan who was very sweet and went into lots of detail but meant scan took over an hour. Was almost nodding off at the end of it !

Ta Da
Visit my grandparents
Trip to the library
Park with DS
Baked a cake with DS

To Do
Ironing
Empty dishwasher
Decorate cake and try not to eat it all before DH gets home
Sort DS bath toys.

Stewedcoot · 05/09/2014 13:14

Crikey you lot! Even I can't keep up and I'm on here permanently Wink Grin

See kittens/cats have been busy too RIP mole and spiders Grin

Hope everyone OK and return to school/work/nursery not too onerous

Hope your ds feels better soon Engels and that you both benefit from a bit of sofa hugging today

Toffee Sorry on-line lessons proving so problematic and stressful. Hope you can get it sorted. I've just sent dh that 'relaxation' tape! Grin and arf at you scampering about in your dressing gown! Although I think you also need to be wearing fluffy slippers, sporting a full head of rollers, whilst doing a bit of knob polishing to really scare the neighbours properly Grin

Bitchy sounds like your ds has the right idea about CAMHS! Sorry they proved to be so unhelpful yet again. Hope your ds gets through this school day ok

You sound organised Blamenargles as do you Vivacia

Alice sideboard in dining room makes good sense to me. I am desperate for one (to hold table cloths, posh glasses we use for guests, spare candles and all the things that we don't have room for anywhere else are currently living in cardboard boxes under an old table)! And fwiw eating in the sitting room (although I confess that we do it at least twice a week and more when my sewing, as it is now, is sprawled all over the dining table) can make a load of extra work. I guess one thing to consider is whether the piano in the sitting room will clash with tv noise-wise (ie do you need/will you need separate quiet room for piano practice etc ) but otherwise think you should go for it; esp if you would be really sad to see sideboard go.

Ellie your poor ds (and poor you)! Hope this morning went a bit more smoothly for him and that he starts to settle in ok.

Blue I hope your ds2 starts to settle in to receptions reasonably quickly too

Pushme and Ellie and Swan hope you can all catch up on sleep tonight!

Nicknacks ditto what Swan said. I am also in awe of your schedule and could never be as organised. You are getting a huge list of things done in very little time! I did once have a rule about "not sitting down until I had finished all the jobs for the day" but that seems to have gone out of the window now dd is older. Although I can see with your heavy schedule that you definitely need to engineer quiet time in order to have sufficient energy for the next day. Agree with Swan that dd definitely wangles more interaction in the evening to eek out bed time. Could you delegate some of the tasks?

Whoknows you also sound incredibly well organised to me too! Still in the middle of slightly tetchy extra-curricular negotiations here regarding how much/how many!

Threeislovely think you are being incredibly hard on yourself too! You have done loads and loads. I would barely be concious after a 13 hr day!

Mamachelle good that your little un is starting to settle a bit

Good luck with your list Standing

Dizzy glad to hear your dd is enjoying her first days back at school! Ditto here re: great teacher and having first home proj!

A warm welcome to Larry

Brilliant video Feetheart I want a Roomba now!

Things a bit tense and tetchy here with dh but he is stressed about his father who has come through op well so far thankfully. Also trying to do office budgets of which I am responsible for cleaning/maintenance part. Always have a battle with allocated resources. Get quite annoyed from (a) feminist perspective (cleaning being underpaid/undervalued) and (b) making do with crappy equipment when office has top latest technology. It probably didn't help when I said that our cleaners worked just as hard as any arseing lawyers ... !

Lost track of my lists (dh and I spent most of day in countryside yesterday because he didn't want to celebrate his birthday because of father's op but was too stressed to work) but suffice to say ground floor and 'public rooms' and kitchen, bathroom now back in fairly clean and spanking order (as clean and spanking as this house ever gets anyway). And hurrah - most of filthy windows have been cleaned - but not by me! All traces of horse-poo infused mud has finally been gone from stairs - it magically reappears out of nowhere!

DD has her first hwk project. Does anyone have any idea how to transform a string-bean-thin 11 year old girl in to Winston Churchill for next Monday please [sigh]??

Stewedcoot · 05/09/2014 13:18

x posts

Glad bump thriving Ellis! Hope you can rest later.

Feetheart hope your dd has a lovely day at her new high school!

feetheart · 05/09/2014 13:26

SC - Churchill ShockShock
I'd go for hat, cigar and teach her the V for victory sign but then I am a bit rebellious minimalist when it comes to teachers/school asking for stupid things :)

Ellie - hope your DS's second day is better. I'm just hoping that high school lives up to DD's level of excitement :)

Have done some work - need to hang out washing, have lunch and wash up.

Stewedcoot · 05/09/2014 13:26

Oh dear [vanity diversion warning]

Need to go out now and buy some food/run errands/do school run (hr ahead here). Had hair cut the other day and don't know how but when blow-dried by hairdresser, it seems to stretch ifyswim even though short. But after first wash it sort of shrinks back - does anyone else have this problem? So now instead of having a mousey Clare Balding ... I have a severe Jacqueline Wilson. And I've put on 3 kilos over holidays Sad Not a good look.

Does anyone have a large paper sack?

Stewedcoot · 05/09/2014 13:30

Feetheart Thxs for suggestions! Will definitely teach v-sign Grin Can't blame the teacher I'm afraid as dd chose WC herself out of a choice of "any major historical figure". Trouble is, I don't happen to have many pipes or homburgs lying around; will have to improvise!

feetheart · 05/09/2014 13:46

At least she didn't choose Lady Godiva :)

Stewedcoot · 05/09/2014 13:47

Grin Feetheart although horse and bikini would have been no problem!

Swanhildapirouetting · 05/09/2014 14:16

Toffee oh dear, oh how I hate technology (except when it works Wink) just been battling parentmail again, as they refuse to admit I am registered despite sending me all last years' messages Confused Finally re-registered.

I find standing next to computer with one of my children one of the biggest flashpoints for any stress..not only do I get neckache, but we invariably cannot stand the pace at which the other proceeds, presses wrong keys, cannot spell etc etc..

today
ds and I went to visit my SIL and her two little children, such a long time since we did and again Ds2 had a great time entertaining them - he seems to have a gift for getting on with small children
Now he is watching Formula 1 and I need to tackle the problem of dd's storage again [sigh] and her paint [sigh sigh]

SC love the Churchill

Ellie oh dear, it is gut wrenching isn't it sending them in for the first time..Sad

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 05/09/2014 17:08

Piano moved. whew!! Friend came over and in order to get it from one room into the other (as it went around a corner in the house), had to tip it on it's side onto a blanket, slide it around the corner that way, then into the living room. Grin Now it's upright again in the living room, good as new. It actually looks great there. Just enough room for the Christmas tree next to it come December. And my god all the room in the dining room!! Bliss!!!

G'night all and have a good w/e!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 05/09/2014 19:54

I was actually supposed to do my wallpaper today, however, a friend came over and helped me move the piano, and we ended up going into town to do a little shopping (well, she shopped, I bought some fruit at the market Grin) and then coffee. Given the choice, you realise coffee is going to win hands down every time! Blush

So I will have to get the wallpaper done next week.

Vivacia · 05/09/2014 20:15

Put another 2 loads of washing on
Sorted out cheques and forms (DD Brownies, DS1 rugby, DS2 drama club)

Sorted out which library books need returning tomorrow.

I am so glad that it is Friday.

BlueEyeshadow · 05/09/2014 23:31

DS2 had a great day today, thanks SC Grin. And DS1's happy too because they're doing dinosaurs for their topic this term. :)

I had a day achieving much less than I wanted, but have the rudiments of a Kwazii cake for DS2 and the poor boy does at least have a card and some presents from his parents now!

ILs here tomorrow and house not exactly sparkling, but fortunately it's the set who don't care, or at least won't comment...

Night all.

pushmepullyou · 06/09/2014 08:24

Morning everyone Smile. Survived yesterday ok but still so so tired! Supposed to be going camping tonight but it's raining and I cba drying the tent after (it's a feck off massive thing DH bought off eBay). Will prob go though as don't want to let friends or kids down.

DD was voted on the the school council yesterday. Apparently there is one child from each year excluding reception. All the children who wanted to stand had to say a couple of sentences about why they wanted to do it. DD apparently said 'because I love to talk - in fact I'm a bit of a chatterbox, and I think I'll have some very good ideas' Grin, no arguments there!

To do
Ring garage and find out whether my car is fixed
Sort out camping stuff
Tidy entrance properly
Go camping!

feetheart · 06/09/2014 08:28

Morning Alice.

Need a list for today:

  • Sort out bank card (not working Angry)
  • Pay for music lessons
  • Washing up from last night Blush
  • Menu plan, shopping list, online shop
  • DS to gymnastics
  • Buy essentials to get us through w/e
  • Pick apples/windfalls and deal with/freeze
  • Go out to pick blackberries/elderberries and freeze
  • FIND DD's BOOKCOVERS as needs them for Monday - I have no idea where they could be
  • Washing bathroom floor as there is a faint whiff of wee Hmm
  • Print off and fill in disclaimer for Wolf run
  • Pack bag for Wolf run and find directions to pick up point
  • Try not to panic about 10k run that involves a lot of water and mud Shock

That will do for now.
Have a good day everyone.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 06/09/2014 08:37

pushme well done to your DD. Grin Gotta love her reasoning.

feetheart good luck with the bankcard. I'd be in huge difficulty if my bankcard wasn't working!! I notice you are paying for music lessons - are music lessons done through schools anymore? Or is it all through private instructors? I'd love the dcs to play music (I'm slowly working on teaching them basic piano), it doesn't seem to be something that is a big thing in schools, which was where we got lessons (years ago) when I was a child.

CallingAllEngels · 06/09/2014 08:43

Morning all!

will catch up later but posting some to dos for motivation

to do
wash new tablecloth
fold and sort clean washing

Alice - it's the local music service via school. Funding has been cut over the past few years and lesson prices have gone up a lot but I think it's worth it. DD plays guitar via school and both her and DH go to a localish Saturday Morning Music school where she does more guitar and they both do ukelele :)
Luckily the DC's primary head really rates music so they do a lot of singing and each year learns an instrument for free - DS, and all of Yr3, learnt cello last year Shock and will do so again this year (in Yr3 DD did recorder which is a bit more usual!), Yr6 did percussion which was a great release on a Friday after a hardworking week :)
I'm hoping DD will be able to do even more at high school as it is a specialist sports and music school (not really sure what that means yet as she has only done one day :))

Our house is full of ukeleles and at times there can be 4 people playing together - DH, DSiL, DD and DS (I'm the manager :))

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2014 08:59

Alice - our school doesn't give much priority to music lessons, there are places in group lessons from Yr3 onwards (keyboard, guitar and violin) but not enough places for everyone and they aren't great, half an hour a week in a group of 6. In Yr 4 our county has a scheme where the whole year learns an instrument together per term (DS did brass, violin and ukelele). Some of the other local schools have a lot more provision that this.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 06/09/2014 09:27

Interesting. Don't schools have school bands anymore?
