Any hints or tips? We're hoping to order in the next couple of weeks. :)

We designed ours ourselves and built and fitted it ourselves also. I'm a dab hand at flat pack so made all the units and hubby and father in law fitted them. Hubby is a diy disaster but father in law was better and it was laborious in getting them positioned right but not difficult. We made life easier by having the dishwasher and washing machine either side of the sink so the pipes just went through the side of the sink unit, no big deal.
It's been in 7 years now and still looks like a new kitchen. Highly recommend the big drawer units as well as hold so much crap lol!

we had an Ikea kitchen fitted in 2008, apart from bits I chipped off doors being over-zealous with the Hoover, it's in great nick. would definitely recommend (had ours fitted by Ikea subbie too)

Velvet a very beautiful kitchen!

Here is mine, it looks really dark at the bottom end but it isn't it is just a weird camera. This was when it was first put in so all the worktops are clear and we have 4 stools under the breakfast bar.

I had ours designed in store for free, but you can't make appointments (Wembley) so get there literally as it opens to avoid queues. We had to queue for 2 hours the first time.

When ordering, they will only deliver next day, so I had to go back the day before we wanted it. And queued for another hour. Some of the cupboards aren't held in store so they get delivered from a depo which took 2 weeks (which I knew so had ordered them on my first trip).

There was then 4/5 items out of stock so dh had to go to the Croydon ikea to pick them up.

All in all, the ordering and and customer service is a dire experience.

But the kitchen itself is lovely. We've had it for 6 months and I still love it.

I'm very happy we chose ikea. Designed online first using their tool. Then went in (not at a weekend! ) and spent an hour or so ordering the stuff with one of their staff. We got it delivered and you have to hang round while all the boxes are collected, scanned out of the warehouse and then scanned into the delivery area.

Basically, take a day off work to go there and don't take the kids! Well worth it though.

Our builder wasn't bothered by the lack of space for pipes etc - "we're builders, that's what we do!" And didn't charge us any extra for building the units. Cost was about half what Howdens etc would have been.

There were a couple of missing bits and pieces and things we needed to take back which wasn't a problem.

A year on it still looks great, no issues with drawers or doors, and I tthink it looks brilliant Grin

The way we did it we had to put in a fair bit of time and thought ourselves. But worth it to save thousands!

Thanks sidewinder I'm very envious of the size of yours and your lovely big fridge! We can only fit a standard 60cm in there ??

ContentedSidewinder · 20/08/2014 22:45

Ours is long and narrow too. Just under 9' wide and 15' long. No room for any eating in there unfortunately. I would so love a nice big family kitchen/diner!

Folks I know this is an old post but I'm a bit stuck with our new Ikea kitchen plans! Planner told me that as our pipes stick out 50mm we'll need to get slightly bigger worktop to make sure our cabinets are covered....but confused, as aren't the base cabinets hung off a rail on the wall? If so will that rail 'protude' enough to cover the pipes? (Pipes def staying in same place.) Any help gratefully received...

Crimestopper · 01/08/2015 15:22

I haven't got my Ikea kitchen yet, but my plan of action is to have a piece of wood attached to the wall to which the rail will be fixed, thus providing the gap needed for the pipes. Then Duropal 665mm depth worktop fits over the units and top of the piece of wood, providing a lovely deep work surface.

IKEA planner told me that best not to use their fitters as they are expensive. I'm interested to know just how much the difference is between an IKEA fitter and other fitters people have found.

I'd love to fit the kitchen myself and am very impressed with those of you that have done it!

We've just had our Pre Inspection Visit and the plan is out by 30cms meaning the electrics water etc are in the wrong place. They planned it instore from my builders measurements as its an extension. But worse than that....we were told that installation would be two weeks from PIV but now they're saying two months! And we've already been without a kitchen for 3 weeks!!!!!!!

Egghead68 · 28/06/2017 22:17

They took £8000 from me on 11th June and are now saying they won't fit till 29th August at the earliest. Not happy about the delay (I signed for the kitchen in store in March or April and they said it would be installed in 2 or 3 months from that point) and certainly not happy about them sitting on my £8000 for months.

They also sent me someone else's paperwork.
