Any hints or tips? We're hoping to order in the next couple of weeks. :)

They took £8000 from me on 11th June and are now saying they won't fit till 29th August at the earliest. Not happy about the delay (I signed for the kitchen in store in March or April and they said it would be installed in 2 or 3 months from that point) and certainly not happy about them sitting on my £8000 for months.

They also sent me someone else's paperwork.

We've just had our Pre Inspection Visit and the plan is out by 30cms meaning the electrics water etc are in the wrong place. They planned it instore from my builders measurements as its an extension. But worse than that....we were told that installation would be two weeks from PIV but now they're saying two months! And we've already been without a kitchen for 3 weeks!!!!!!!

IKEA planner told me that best not to use their fitters as they are expensive. I'm interested to know just how much the difference is between an IKEA fitter and other fitters people have found.

I'd love to fit the kitchen myself and am very impressed with those of you that have done it!

I haven't got my Ikea kitchen yet, but my plan of action is to have a piece of wood attached to the wall to which the rail will be fixed, thus providing the gap needed for the pipes. Then Duropal 665mm depth worktop fits over the units and top of the piece of wood, providing a lovely deep work surface.

Folks I know this is an old post but I'm a bit stuck with our new Ikea kitchen plans! Planner told me that as our pipes stick out 50mm we'll need to get slightly bigger worktop to make sure our cabinets are covered....but confused, as aren't the base cabinets hung off a rail on the wall? If so will that rail 'protude' enough to cover the pipes? (Pipes def staying in same place.) Any help gratefully received...

Ours is long and narrow too. Just under 9' wide and 15' long. No room for any eating in there unfortunately. I would so love a nice big family kitchen/diner!

Thanks sidewinder I'm very envious of the size of yours and your lovely big fridge! We can only fit a standard 60cm in there ??

I'm very happy we chose ikea. Designed online first using their tool. Then went in (not at a weekend! ) and spent an hour or so ordering the stuff with one of their staff. We got it delivered and you have to hang round while all the boxes are collected, scanned out of the warehouse and then scanned into the delivery area.

Basically, take a day off work to go there and don't take the kids! Well worth it though.

Our builder wasn't bothered by the lack of space for pipes etc - "we're builders, that's what we do!" And didn't charge us any extra for building the units. Cost was about half what Howdens etc would have been.

There were a couple of missing bits and pieces and things we needed to take back which wasn't a problem.

A year on it still looks great, no issues with drawers or doors, and I tthink it looks brilliant Grin

The way we did it we had to put in a fair bit of time and thought ourselves. But worth it to save thousands!

I had ours designed in store for free, but you can't make appointments (Wembley) so get there literally as it opens to avoid queues. We had to queue for 2 hours the first time.

When ordering, they will only deliver next day, so I had to go back the day before we wanted it. And queued for another hour. Some of the cupboards aren't held in store so they get delivered from a depo which took 2 weeks (which I knew so had ordered them on my first trip).

There was then 4/5 items out of stock so dh had to go to the Croydon ikea to pick them up.

All in all, the ordering and and customer service is a dire experience.

But the kitchen itself is lovely. We've had it for 6 months and I still love it.

Velvet a very beautiful kitchen!

Here is mine, it looks really dark at the bottom end but it isn't it is just a weird camera. This was when it was first put in so all the worktops are clear and we have 4 stools under the breakfast bar.

we had an Ikea kitchen fitted in 2008, apart from bits I chipped off doors being over-zealous with the Hoover, it's in great nick. would definitely recommend (had ours fitted by Ikea subbie too)

We designed ours ourselves and built and fitted it ourselves also. I'm a dab hand at flat pack so made all the units and hubby and father in law fitted them. Hubby is a diy disaster but father in law was better and it was laborious in getting them positioned right but not difficult. We made life easier by having the dishwasher and washing machine either side of the sink so the pipes just went through the side of the sink unit, no big deal.
It's been in 7 years now and still looks like a new kitchen. Highly recommend the big drawer units as well as hold so much crap lol!

I didn't use their service mainly due to cost and the fact that they wanted the extension built and knocked through before they would come and measure up and I couldn't be without a kitchen for that long.

As Ikea is only a few miles away I knew I could tinker with the design and buy a few different cupboards if the extension wasn't as long as I had hoped.

But from what I know, they arrange everything but you pay two different bills, one to Ikea for the kitchen fitting and then one to the kitchen fitter people for any additional works and Ikea aren't responsible for that. I assume this means Ikea fitters are sub-contracted.

It is in their "our agreement with you" bit, a link to the pdf is here

Contented....do ikea do the new pipe work then?
I am taking mum to ikea this morning to make an appt to get someone to come out to design her a new kitchen.
Do the fitters do everything?
She will need plastering done prior to New kitchen going in...

scousadelic all they do is put the pipework at plinth level, if you're having a kitchen ripped out they have access to all the pipework as you should have an empty room.

A sink unit (old style Faktum, fitted last year) has a half bottom to the unit allowing all the pipes into the back of the cupboard.

Why would anyone want to waste space behind every cabinet? Drop all pipework to skirting board level.

I have had my kitchen a year, my sister has an Ikea kitchen and it is around 3 years old and looks amazing still.

We ordered in store, it gets scanned going onto the lorry, and scanned coming off into your house. We were missing 4 items (ie they weren't in stock, not we can't find them on the lorry) they arrived 3 days later. Ikea phoned me and arranged a delivery date convenient to us.

We ordered the kitchen early as we wanted to make sure everything arrived and we were having a kitchen extension built. Being an organised sort of person, after Ikea had delivered it we stacked it (keeping it flat) into larder units, base units, wall units, interior fittings, plinths together etc. Plus I wrote on every box what it was ie 600 base or door for pull out larder etc in black marker so the fitter knew what it was.

Ikea give you a full print out, so the first cupboard you started your design with is number 1 and it lists all the component parts for that ie cabinet, door and any interior fittings. It was very easy to find stuff.

We had an independent fitter do it as he was recommended by our builder and we were more than happy with it all.

has anyone had one for a while? Just wondering what the quality is like and how long they last?
We are saving for a kitchen and were thinking of going to howdens, but was in ikea yesterday and they look lovely, however, it was so busy, it is stressful to go there don't know if I could stand it, you have to fight for attention from the staff!

Oh and btw, if you are an ikea family card member you purchases will be insured against accidental damage so if you your builder damages anything they replace them free.

We used the ikea planning service.
It was £50.
Then we took all the info to the shop to order it....this takes much linger than you think! It took us 1.5 hours!
Dh put all the units together and out builder fitted it.
