Need help removing gross yellow stains from DP's pillow cases

As the title says really. DP is incredibly sweaty in the night and I am f*cking sick of him ruining lovely white bed linen with his gross sweaty head and body. Everything ends up yellow on his side despite me washing it very regularly - I can't wash it every sodding day!!!

Any tips for stain removal much appreciated.

Ive found through laziness by accident that sunshine for days at a time will sort out the yellow.

But realising that this is an ongoing fight I decided to take the line of least resistance. I have opted for the method of not having white or light coloured cotton pillowcases. I now have darker coloured polycotton /microfibre sets and am happier for it.

I save my ultra nice ,white, pure linen for when he's away Grin

LineRunner · 04/08/2014 22:03

But what is it, what is this stuff that comes out of even bald skin and goes yellow?

GemmaTeller · 04/08/2014 22:05

I did mine the other week when it was really hot and sunny.

Two at a time in the washing machine, half the usual amount of powder, dollop of bleach, boil wash setting = lovely white fresh pillows

DP is going away for work for 12 weeks later this year, much as we all miss him, I LOVE the cleanliness of the bed!

Right, tomorrow I will purchase bio washing powder then wash his disgusting linen on the hottest wash going, then outside to dry. If that makes no difference it is cheapo pillow cases for him.

Glad to know I am not alone!

Thank god it's not just me with a 'D'H with a yellow secreting head - it is rank.

I suggest he washes more he suggests we swap pillows, it is truly gross and I love my white bedding. I think I'm going to do.as an earlier poster suggested and buy a cheap one for him and cover with a nice one when he's not in bed.

dibdobs · 05/08/2014 07:10

So glad its not just my oh, except he makes the whole of his side of the bed saturated with sweat and it smells horrible! Im forever changing the bed grr

RubyGoat · 05/08/2014 07:23

Glad I'm not the only one who had to suffer this. And the vinegar smell - wtf is that about!?

PittTheYounger · 05/08/2014 07:42

Oh god yes. Bio

PittTheYounger · 05/08/2014 07:42

H used to use biotex on cricket whites. Nowadays I don't bother. They never seem to need it.

Washing update....two boil washes with bio powder plus soda crystals have made no difference. I think the damage on this lot is done.

So off to get cheapo ones for him that he (I) will change every other day.

Bio works best at low temp

Give them one more go with bio at 40 before you abandon hope!

Buttercup27 · 05/08/2014 13:59

Back to white is amazing (even turned my cream towels white).

magicstar1 · 05/08/2014 14:13

Same here...DH shaves his head too and leaves yellow sweat etc. on the pillowcases. My solution was to buy black duvet sets in Ikea..works great lol

dippingbackin · 05/08/2014 15:01

Am an idiot...of course bio works best at low temps. Am a science teacher so really should have remembered basic enzyme science!!!

Will pin my hopes to that.

Another DH with a smelly head here too. It's a relief to me that I'm not the only one - not sure that he'll be impressed that it's a phenomenon worth discussing mind.

I try to go for the change his more frequently and wash the protectors approach.

SpeckleDust · 06/08/2014 00:05

Not normally a brand person but I highly recommend Ariel bio powder at 60C then hanging out in sunshine.

I learnt a lot about washing/stain removing when DD2 wore washable nappies. Always amazed at how stains came out with this routine.

Crumbelina · 06/08/2014 00:07

Mine has the same balsamic vinegar stink. It's awful! It's been worse since he really got into cycling and doing lots of exercise.

PittTheYounger · 06/08/2014 01:20

Don't black ones get white sweat outlines

momnipotent · 06/08/2014 02:06

I would think that black ones would be worse because the stains would be still be there but you can't see them so don't wash as often so there is greater build-up? Yuck, am grossing myself out.

MorphineDreams · 06/08/2014 02:07

Oh my god I thought I was the only one who had a DP like this. I always wanted to ask but was embarrassed. So is it sweat then that causes it?

MorphineDreams · 06/08/2014 02:10

Is it something in the sweat? Because I suffer from nightsweats (side effect of meds) but it doesn't turn anything yellow Confused

itsbetterthanabox · 06/08/2014 02:13

Use dark coloured bedding.

LadySybilLikesCake · 06/08/2014 02:17

You could try a soluble asprin in the washing machine with them. It does make them smell though so you need to wash them again afterwards with just washing powder. It also works on light sweat stains on clothes.

Hair and the head has oils. When someone's hot, their head produces more oil which rubs off onto the pillow. It's different to sweat, sweat is mostly water. Underarm sweat is different to body sweat, and turns clothes yellow if not washed because bacteria starts to attack it, but it won't do this if you wash the clothes fairly quickly.

Icelollycraving · 08/08/2014 07:32

I think persil bio powder is the best around. I used lidl powder recently which is ok & would be my second choice.
