Can anyone recommend a good washing machine?

Old machine has packed in. I need to get another one pretty quick. We use the machine a lot (3 DCs, 2 still in washable nappies) so it needs to be able to go the distance!

Have been thinking about the samsung eco bubble. Any good?

Don't know about the samsung but I have had a Miele for 12 years + 4 moves & it is still going strong.

One piece of advice I got given by a washing machine repair man (many years ago) is to either go for the base model or the top of the range model, anything else in between is not worth it.

I've gone for base model & am v happy with it.

I have had my samsung eco bubble for a few days now and it seems to be good. We got the 9kg drum so it takes a lot more than my last 6kg one did. Dont know about its reliability yet though

ilovepowerhoop · 23/07/2014 20:42

p.s. we got ours from ao.com and got free next day delivery

I've got a Miele - the most basic model. It's 5 years old so far. DMum also has a basic Miele, she's had it for 19 years with no issues (shit, I'll probably curse her saying that...) We have a basic Miele in our rental property also, been there since 2005.

I have a LG, all their machines have very good reviews.

BreezefromtheWest · 23/07/2014 21:42

I have a Samsung eco bubble 8kg and really pleased with it, especially 15 minute wash programme.

flingingmelon · 23/07/2014 21:48

Another happy Miele owner here - basic model, had it ten years and no problems. Even copes with DHs occasional shoe washing adventures Confused

Just got my second Miele. First lasted 13 years, used at least once a day every day, huge loads, dog beds, rugs etc. Bought it because it had a 10 year guarantee and we had previously got through 3 machines in 5 years. It worked out at £80 per year of its life. Not all models offer the 10 year deal, but there is always one or other model with it. Wouldn't buy anything else now.

ilovepowerhoop · 23/07/2014 22:04

Miele are expensive though. The basic model is more expensive than some of the better samsung ecobubble models

I would say categorically do NOT get a Samsung Eco Bubble.

I got one in May last year and it lasted for, 7 MONTHS!!!!! After 5 engineer visits in 2 weeks, Samsung agreed to take the machine and refund me purchase price (retailer had gone bust).

This was the top of the line Eco Bubble - 12kg one, all bells and whistles with a RRP of £1000.

I replaced this with a 12kg LG machine in Feb this year, and again its ok, but nothing more. At least it's not broken yet (touch wood).

Best washing machine I ever had was Bosch, which I sold to get that blasted Eco Bubble. I go round to my sisters now to admire it, it's still perfect and never gone wrong.

I've heard Miele are excellent, however, I have never owned one yet. I
think my next machine will be a Miele.

HTH

ilovepowerhoop · 23/07/2014 22:24

hope you just had a dodgy one then as we just got a 9kg eco bubble last week!

partystress · 23/07/2014 22:36

My Miele cheaper per year than the Hotpoint, Hoover or Zanussi that preceded it. Hotpoint lasted precisely one week past the expiry of its one year warranty.

ilovepowerhoop · 23/07/2014 22:39

but you need to have the extra money in the first place even if it is cheaper in the long run

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 23/07/2014 22:42

I've had my Zanussi thirteen years and it's been fine up until recently. It now makes a dreadful scraping noise when in full spin. Dh says the bearings are going. I presume that when they've gone that will be it. Have no idea what to replace it with if it's not salvageable.

joanofarchitrave · 23/07/2014 22:47

Wash? Bosch.

15 years here, no sign of trouble yet.

e1y1 · 24/07/2014 00:47

I hope so ilove. I'm sure it was just a dodgy one, however, completely killed it for any Samsung appliance for me though.

Love their mobile phones though Grin.

I am sure (and hope) yours will be fine.

:)

crockydoodle · 24/07/2014 07:56

My samsung machine is going fine and it's two and a half years old. You may just have been unlucky.

Bosch here. 12 years service and only one problem which DH managed to fix with a £7 part from eBay and a YouTube vide0... Grin

PigletJohn · 24/07/2014 10:40

A basic machine from a good maker will be more reliable than a fancy machine from a poor maker.

Bosch here.

jeee · 24/07/2014 10:42

If you can stretch to it, Miele. With the extended warranties it's actually worked out cheaper for us.

upupupandaway · 24/07/2014 10:50

Don't buy anything ECO, bubble or a model that claims to use hardly any water. They don't wash as well and sometimes you'll have to wash twice or reduce the load you put in the drum.
Can you still get top loaders?, they go on and on, less wear on the bearings.
My second hand AEG is at least 27 years old and never let me down.

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2014 10:51

Basic bosch as well, had for about 11 years. Like pp the only problems have been fixed for about £15 and YouTube. It moves a lot though Hmm

PickledMoomin · 24/07/2014 10:54

We have the Bosch (Which? best buy) from John Lewis.
I'm really pleased with it
