does EVERYONE own a dishwasher?

hollyhobbie · 27/08/2006 17:50

Just been reading the 'tips for getting organised' thread, and there are lots of tips about when to load/unload the dishwasher...
Am I the only one in the whole wide world who still doesn't own one?
What tips would you have to persude DH to get one?

No I havent got one. We had a new kitchen last year which would have been the perfect opportunity, but I decided that I would rather have an extra cupboard.

I havent regretted it either. But to be honest Dh does the dinner things , I only deal with breakfats and lunch.

bobsmum · 27/08/2006 19:46

We don't and my kitchen is a mess, but we're hopefully goinmg to be able to afford a new kitchen in the next year and there will be a dishwasher! I'd rather cook over twigs and sacrifice the cooker than go much longer without one!

At the moment the central heating is the priority - dh has just lit the coal fire tonight for the first time in ages - Autumn has arrived

Gobbledigook · 27/08/2006 19:46

Not me. I've never had one and it's just not something I'm bothered about having. It's not on my 'to do' list at all. There are 10001 other things I'd spend my money on first. I don't mind washing up though, I find it quite satisfying

Tinker · 27/08/2006 19:47

Not got one here.

donnie · 27/08/2006 19:47

I love mine but HATE unpacking it. Wish I had another machine to do that as well.

throckenholt · 27/08/2006 19:47

we don't - I never wanted one - but we used one on holiday and I am converted . Luckily we are building a new kitcehn and there is room for one in there - we ordered it last week.

i haven't got one and don't want one! just something else electrical to go wrong (and leak all over the floor) haha

ScummyMummy · 27/08/2006 19:49

no. I would kill for one but there's no room. I am bad at washing up.

Tommy · 27/08/2006 19:57

There was one already in the house when we moved in so I have one - quite a lot of my feiends don't have them if that's any help.
My sister has just got one after 25 years of telling her DH that she wnats one - it's currently sitting in the middle of her dining room apparently..... she obviously doesn't know what to do with it!!

Mercy · 27/08/2006 20:00

I've had a dishwasher for almost a year now - it's great! Dh (Mr Environment) always refused to have one so I did a childminding job and just ordered it. It was either that or he did all the washing up.

Anyway, some men like facts and figures so blind them with science (have a look at the Which site for info.)

Janeite, many places will deliver and install for you - Argos, John Lewis etc.

CountessDracula · 27/08/2006 20:01

Tell him he has to do all the washing up

Seriously I have not lived without a dishwasher since 1970, tell him to get with it!

Nope, not enough room,SIGH.I am the Dishwasher!!!

UCM · 27/08/2006 20:27

Mine broke down 2 weeks ago and boy do I miss it. I didn't realise how much I hated washing up especially after a bloody Sunday roast. I have only had it for 20 months and am in the process of trying to get someone to repair it for free ie Argos/beko/bekos service people as I think it should have lasted longer than this.

southeastastra · 27/08/2006 20:28

i sort of like washing up i must be a loony

foundintranslation · 27/08/2006 20:31

We don't have one - nowhere to put it in the kitchen, and we can't really afford a decent one anyway. Would love one but are saving up for insecure future atm. We will move to a big city in the spring, where we will probably be able to get a second hand one in decent working order quite cheaply, so probably will.

fit, do you have freecycle in Germany? Someone on my local one asked for a dishwasher this week - "my family needs one" - and lo and behold, she got one within 2 days.

aha - you do!

freecycle UK for everybody else

You are supposed, by freecycle etiquette, to put in an OFFERED email before putting in a WANTED one

fuzzywuzzy · 27/08/2006 20:38

i don't have one, no room

Toothyboy · 27/08/2006 20:39

Had a full size one in my old house, then moved 6 months ago to a house with a smaller kitchen and didn't think we had room for it. I spent 5 months washing up by hand - could not believe how much stuff we got through in a day, I was washing up about 5 times a day and there still seemed to be constant piles of dishes on the work surface!

I then realised that we could fit a slimline one underneath the draining board. It was ordered, cupboard knocked out and plumbed in within a week! I will not be without one ever again!

notsogummyanymore · 27/08/2006 20:41

i don't have one, but if dh was here he'd say he was it!

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2006 20:43

God, I only got one 4 years ago and I don't know what we did before it really. Argued about washing up I think. Ours is on twice a day at least so it's a lot of w up without it.

foundintranslation · 27/08/2006 20:43

ooooh ursula! Thanks - might try that
