How often do you really change your sheets?

Excuses to beginf with: We have a 6 months old baby with severe eczema and a fair bit of reflux. This means a fair bit of washing. I am scrupulous about changing his mattress sheet -(every other day sometime every day - due to the amount of skin he leaves behind) and my bottom sheet ( we do a fair bit of co sleeping)
However getting a bit lax on our beds - both me and dh in separate King sizes - (mine is in the nursery) yes I know we are lucky - sheets fill up the washing machine, can't dry outside due to hay fever. Take the whole day to dry and then a pain to put on alone - especially on one bed which has a stupid lip all the way round at the level of the top of the mattress - not what I would have chosen - it is a hand me down.

Surely it is forgivable that I wash them ( esp dh s) less than once every two weeks maybe even every three weeks sometimes.

I'm in a very similar situation to you OP except DS excema is quite mild. Only one king size for us and I'd say we change it about once a fortnight on average, but varies from one to three weeks depending on how busy we are. DS' gets done when needed, which is never longer than four days.

I pull back the quilt every morning and open a window to air bottom sheet.

Also it is DP's job to put the quilt cover on :).

AiryFairyHairyAndScary · 30/04/2014 09:46

I changed mine every week when I lived overseas and had a maid Blush
now I do them once a fortnight in winter and once a week in summer. I always do teens beds once a week and I'll do ours more often if needed.

MmmIceCream · 30/04/2014 09:52

Every Sunday, but that's only because I've gotten into a bit of a routine where every Sunday I love going to bed early, with a good book, into fresh sheets. It's kinda 'me' time and means I start the week on a good note. Although if I miss a Sunday due to being away or something, I tend to just wait until the next Sunday, so it's not rare to have 2 weeks between changes.

CPtart · 30/04/2014 10:09

Every 3-4 weeks. More often in the summer.

4littleones · 30/04/2014 11:34

Mine and the older DC are about once a month, my Son who is 1 gets his changed roughly weekly, sometimes more, as his actually get dirty, and also he naps in the day so his are used more.

I would probably do the DC more often if they weren't in bunks that are near impossible to change and always full of toys.

I don't see the point in washing sheets weekly. You lay on them, and assuming your not that dirty, your sheets shouldn't be either. I bath every night before bed, and neither me or DH particularly sweat in the night.

shortaris1 · 01/05/2014 10:59

Once a week here. Just me and I love fresh sheets but aye it is a faff, especially as I iron duvet covers and pillowcases. Mum, you've got a lot to answer for!

StormyBrid · 01/05/2014 11:18

If it makes you feel better, I moved into my house at six months pregnant and made the bed with clean bedclothes. DD was eleven months old before I got chance to do it again. Now's that's scummy and slatternly. You're doing grand in comparison, OP!

Mothergothel1111 · 02/05/2014 06:33

Weekly - ten days in winter and 5-7 days in summer.
Dh does duvet cover for me as he has long arms.

I love a fresh bed. I do have a top tip, put your duvet on the line ( with cover) and change bottom sheets. So fresh and clean again.

Delphiniumsblue · 02/05/2014 06:42

Once a week.

cjdamoo · 02/05/2014 07:07

Every week through warm weather. Every other through the colder months. Seven beds. In Australia so more warm months than cold.

SanityClause · 02/05/2014 07:19

Once a week, but that's irrelevant to you, really!

I would speak to your DP, and let him know you are having difficulty getting all the sheets changed, because of the reasons you give, above, and tell him that, at the moment, he needs to change his bed, and wash his own sheets.

(I would be willing to bet that he uses the tumble dryer to dry his sheets. My DH used to have rules about paying the tolls in France with coins, to use up the coppers. However, when I was driving, and he was paying, out would come the notes!)

macmissy · 02/05/2014 07:25

Every other week, So I can alternate the beds. The guest room gets stripped when someone has been in it but I don't have as dryer - it looks like washer woman's paradise as it is and we only have DSS every other week so not a mountain as if imagine it would be otherwise!

JayBee93 · 02/05/2014 22:43

Evry week and that's a superkingsize bed a kingsize 2 doubles 3 singles and a cot all at 60 in the machine tumble dry in bad weather line dry in good weather and pressed I like stuff ironed

Dollydots · 02/05/2014 22:45

Twice a week but I have a tumble dryer. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Delphiniumsblue · 03/05/2014 06:47

Twice a week with a tumble dryer is not very good for the environment!

Busymumto3dc · 03/05/2014 06:51

Once a week for our bed, every other day for dds cot and once a week for boys unless they have an accident

Costacoffeeplease · 03/05/2014 07:01

Every week, we just have a bottom fitted sheet and a duvet so the whole lot gets changed every time - I don't iron them though

Ragwort · 03/05/2014 07:30

About every two weeks - I have a tumble dyer but very rarely use it. I love clean sheets but not the faff involved - DH & I sleep separately so I have one week on each side of the bed so it is 'cleanish' (IYSWIM Grin).

Zara8 · 03/05/2014 07:49

I aim for weekly, in reality it's usually fortnightly. I have one 18 month old, I change his cot sheet at the same time.

We don't use a top sheet so we change duvet cover at same time. Duvet cover, sheet and pillow cases all fit in washing machine and the tumble dryer, one load. I live in an apartment so don't have room to hang up sheets!

TBH don't worry about it, if you have small children all bets are off!

Zara8 · 03/05/2014 07:51

DEFINITELY no ironing here, same as Costa!!

Megbeth · 03/05/2014 15:05

Always once a week. I have 4 beds so do them all on different days. I am not in the UK now so can get them dry on the line even in winter.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 03/05/2014 15:13

I wash all the bedding on a Saturday, I have multiple sets of sheets, pillow & duvet covers and a spare duvet for each bed so they all get clean ones on a Saturday. It normally takes me a couple of days to wash, dry and iron the dirty ones.

teawithlemon · 03/05/2014 20:51

Once or twice a week, more in the summer (no pjs for either of us!) same set off and on again. mattress cover washed once a month, mattress turned at the same time ( hovered as well if I'm feeling really hyper.

Juno321 · 03/05/2014 21:47

At least once a week

happyhillock · 09/01/2019 00:42

Every saturday even when the kids lived at home, if i was going somewhere on a Saturday i would do them on a friday, could lie in the same sheets for 2-3 weeks
