How often do you really change your sheets?

Excuses to beginf with: We have a 6 months old baby with severe eczema and a fair bit of reflux. This means a fair bit of washing. I am scrupulous about changing his mattress sheet -(every other day sometime every day - due to the amount of skin he leaves behind) and my bottom sheet ( we do a fair bit of co sleeping)
However getting a bit lax on our beds - both me and dh in separate King sizes - (mine is in the nursery) yes I know we are lucky - sheets fill up the washing machine, can't dry outside due to hay fever. Take the whole day to dry and then a pain to put on alone - especially on one bed which has a stupid lip all the way round at the level of the top of the mattress - not what I would have chosen - it is a hand me down.

Surely it is forgivable that I wash them ( esp dh s) less than once every two weeks maybe even every three weeks sometimes.

Gosh, no point having the dryer standing idle, use it.
But otherwise, always air the beds by leaving the sheets thrown back for 30 mins to an hour after you get out of them, then make them. That helps to keep them fresher.

Amy106 · 28/04/2014 23:28

Once a week here but really OP, you are doing just fine. Who gives you grief about using the dryer?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/04/2014 23:30

Once a week - but I have a tumble dryer I use as much as I feel like and a cleaner Blush

poppetpuppet · 28/04/2014 23:31

When I 1st change the duvet cover I put a top sheet beneath the duvet, then when a wash is needed (2-3 weeks) I just take of the sheet and change the pillowcases and fitted sheet, which means less pissing about with super king duvets! So the duvet cover only gets changed every other wash (4-6 weeks) Wink

goodasitgets · 28/04/2014 23:32

Depends. Probably every 7 - 10 days
Sometimes mid week I will change pillow cases and bottom sheet and flip duvet (have reversible covers)

CremeEggThief · 28/04/2014 23:33

Every fortnight, unless it's really hot. Sometimes slips to three weeks in winter. I'm on my own, wear pajamas and air the bed for a few hours every day tthough.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 28/04/2014 23:33

Fortnightly. No shame.

You will get that loon on here shortly, who changes her sheets every day.

BrianTheMole · 28/04/2014 23:36

When I remember not every week

HypodeemicNerdle · 28/04/2014 23:40

I change mine when I think 'oh shit, when was the last time I changed the beds?'

I have a set of bunk beds and a high sleeper/loft bed to do along with me and DH's, they are such a flipping pain to do.

I don't normally post on these threads as I seem to be in the minority to the posters who change beds daily or towels after every use, I like your thread more!

SpottieDottie · 28/04/2014 23:41

As soon as I can line dry them, fresh sheets off the line is my luxury in life.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 28/04/2014 23:41

Every 7-10 days. I only have a small one-bed flat and no space to dry double sheets though, so I have 4 sets of bedding, and once I have 3 sets dirty make a trip to the launderette with them, that happens about once a month.

Agree if your DP is giving you grief for using the tumble dryer to dry his sheets (that you are not sharing) then tell him to wash his own sheets. TBH if separate beds I'd be expecting him to wash his own anyway, probably, unless there was a specific agreement that laundering bedding is your responsibility and he has another equal chore.

RyvitaSesame · 28/04/2014 23:46

Any advance on fortnightly? Im gonna say monthly.

Twunk · 28/04/2014 23:47

Once every four weeks, usually after my period. I intend to do it more often but it never happens. DH and I sleep in separate beds.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 28/04/2014 23:50

Every day this weekend with 2 children & DH throwing up otherwise generally once a week.

Don't worry about it though sounds as though you & your washing machine are busy enough!

Dragonlette · 28/04/2014 23:54

I change them when they need it, so whenever something has been spilled on them. Not that often in reality, certainly nothing like as often as most of the posters on this thread, maybe every couple of months on average. They don't seem to smell bad, or we've got used to the smell of our own sheets, either way, we're ok with it.

PurpleEdith · 28/04/2014 23:55

Most weeks they get changed. No worries if they don't.

If you have a small baby and you ever manage to get anything domestic done you are bloody brilliant. Stop worrying.

PurpleEdith · 28/04/2014 23:58

I meant just do the stuff your baby needs and wing it on everything else.

wiltingfast · 29/04/2014 00:01

Monthlyish here, right after my period.

iggymama · 29/04/2014 00:54

I have a small suggestion. You could lay some of your crib/moses basket/cot sheets over the spot where your baby lays on your bed. Then just whip this off to wash rather than strip the whole bed.

I had a very sicky cosleeping ds so I used to lay him on a pile of sheets and take off the top every time it got soiled with vomit. I threw them all in a basket at the side of the bed ready to wash the next day.

Bodicea · 29/04/2014 07:43

Thanks for suggestions . He does sometime do his sheets and i generally make him put the duvet covers on/help me put them on.

Dh give me grief about the dryer as electricity bill is sky high at the mo! But gonna start ignoring him.

If I really think about it is prob more like once a month for the duvet cover at Least Shock but not gonna feel guilty about it any more.

Please excuse all shocking typos. Sleep deprived.

You are doing fine and congratulations.

The massive duvet and cover were hell to change on a Kingsize bed. Eventually when I started getting hot flushes I bought two single duvets and we have one of those each and use a bedspread to make the bed look pretty. Honestly it takes all the hassle out of bed changing and laundry.

Rivercam · 29/04/2014 07:54

Once every two weeks. The best thing about tumble driers are using them to dry sheets!

hedgehogy · 29/04/2014 08:07

Once a week. DH changes the bedsheets, and I wash them.

CountessVronsky · 29/04/2014 08:53

If there were no ecological impact to sheet-washing, I would wash mine every other day. One of life's great joys is getting into a bed with freshly laundered sheets.

I change mine once a week.
