Dyson or Henry? Go!

As the title said really. We bought a dyson hoover about 4 years ago and it has needed repairing so many times I'm starting to give up and want to replace it altogether. When it's working well, the suction is very good and I don't want to lose that.

Advice?

Henry!

nf1morethanjustlumpsandbumps · 08/01/2014 15:09

I had a Dyson and hated the sodding thing worst hoover I've ever had. Had decorators in at one stage who used it and they said "Um your cleaner sometimes blows rather than sucks" Blush.

Henry was on sale at Argos before Christmas they had none left so I got Hetty instead. I actually love Hetty great value for money and lifts very well after one messy DH, DS and one half crazed Lancashire Heeler whose fur gets everywhere.

Henry is a smug and irritating arse who falls over at the slightest bumpy threshold. I wish he would do one!

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 16:58

Maryz I think they are very very good at marketting. And they priced them so high everyone thought they 'must' be worth it! Plus when we first got our Dyson it was awesome. For the first couple of months that was.....

notso I totally agree about pulling out all the hairs. I spent 30 mins doing this after new year hoovering and then another 20 mins trying to get the roller back in. That was before cleaning and drying the filter. Enough is enough!

Thanks for all your tips. At the moment I'm veering towards a Henry as the Miele is so much more expensive and the bag seems so small, I don't want to be changing the bag every 5 minutes.

Got a friend who works at dyson and is always giving us the new model. None of them have lasted longer than a year! Got the new battery powered one which I loved until it too broke two months in!

notso · 08/01/2014 17:11

The bag holds loads wigwam I vacuum a lot downstairs I have 4 crumb factories DC and vacuum the front room and kitchen most days sometimes twice a day. I have sucked up a Christmas tree's worth of pine needles and still the bag is only half full.
I got my Miele from Debenhams in the sale it was £120.

My sister has a Henry, it's not Henry though it's green or yellow. Anyway, she loves it, the only thing that put me off is that it's quite bulky to store.

Dysons are good in principle but not in practice. MIL loves hers though.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 08/01/2014 17:28

Henry! The last one we had lasted 15 years and only broke after DH chucked him down the stairs. Replaced immediately with a new one Grin

ancientbuchanan · 08/01/2014 18:21

I also have an old miele of which I am fond. It never goes wrong. The lodger has it.

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 22:19

notso which Miele do you have? They make loads of different models. Yes it's the storage factor with a Henry that puts me off too, only reason I'm not 100pc sold on it yet.

I wish I read this thread before I bought our stupid Dyson. I wouldnt mind but I've always loved Henry's! Our vax upright is wonderful on the big floors though. Bought the Dyson for edges and stairs... Doesn't do either grrrrr!

SummerRain · 04/03/2014 21:25

Dyson

GreyWind · 04/03/2014 21:29

I like Dyson but then I've never owned a henry. Don't like the look of them Tbh, they look like a child's toy.

Jellykat · 04/03/2014 21:33

Henry, theres a reason a lot of shops and hotels use them.. Dysons are rubbish!

LyndaCartersBigPants · 04/03/2014 21:37

Dyson. In fact I clean for a job and take my Dyson cylinder with me as the house I work at has a Henry and I can't get on with it.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/03/2014 21:41

No shouts for Vax?

Sad

I used to love mine.....

Jellykat · 04/03/2014 21:43

Grin I clean a 6 bed house in the Summer season, and take my Henry with me as the owners have a Dyson!

Justgotosleepnow · 04/03/2014 21:43

Miele!

sherbetpips · 04/03/2014 21:45

Worth noting that dysons don't break completely, they are only four or five functioning parts. You ring them up and they will take you through a series of steps to work out which bit broke, that is the only bit you need to replace. Bad luck for us it is always the vortex!

Dogmatix34 · 04/03/2014 21:47

Henry definitely. He is just so pleasing. Have heard Miele are good too though (if very expensive)

Mandy2003 · 04/03/2014 21:59
