Dyson or Henry? Go!

As the title said really. We bought a dyson hoover about 4 years ago and it has needed repairing so many times I'm starting to give up and want to replace it altogether. When it's working well, the suction is very good and I don't want to lose that.

Advice?

You got there before me, Throughthelongnight!

PinsAndNoodles · 07/01/2014 23:14

Henry.

I am too old weak to push a Dyson around.

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay · 07/01/2014 23:14

Not a Dyson anyways.

QueenThora · 07/01/2014 23:17

God I thought everyone would say Dyson. I am not one for hype and I resisted for years but I bloody love ours. Its suction is amazing and it's been going strong for about 8 years now.

I wouldn't want a Henry LOOKING disapprovingly at my fluff problem.

Bettercallsaul1 · 07/01/2014 23:18

And Emmaistired and simpson - birds of a feather!

Dreya · 07/01/2014 23:18

Hetty hands down. I had a Henry for about 15 years and when he died we got Hetty.

My Miele is one of the best things I've ever bought. Always used Henrys when I worked in hotels and the Miele is definitely better. Dyson and his blimming bagless number- grr, the bag is there for a reason, I don't want to have to tip the contents into a black bag/ all over the floor. And don't get me started on his RIDICULOUSLY LOUD hand dryers! Shock

morethanpotatoprints · 07/01/2014 23:19

Henry, without a doubt.
I had a dyson its on the tip now, didn't last long and cost a fortune.
We are on our second Henry the first one was a wedding pressie from my parents 21 years ago. It out lived my parents Sad

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 14:21

Ah MoreSkyThanWeNeed and JacqueslePeacock you've just made my day. My one new year's resolution is to laugh more. Thank you!!! It hadn't even ocurred to me about the baby name thread but of course it could come across that way!

OK I'm getting it loud and clear that Dyson are basically expensive rubbish (which has been my experience tbh), so it's now between Henry, his sister Hetty or Miele. mervynmouse I TOTALLY agree about the hideous noise that dyson hand dryers make, my DS has a major melt down if I even approach one now, bless him. I had a quick look at Miele and it's not far off double the price of Henry and Hetty and apparently bags are expensive too, which both puts me. However, all the reviews are excellent.

Miele fans - which one do you have and could you give me a rough idea how much the bags are?

Miele cat and dog, end of. Have had a dyson and a henry and miele wins hands down with knobs on.

Did anyone else think it was the choice between the name Henry or Dyson! Too many baby names threads I guess!

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 14:34

Maryz I can SO sympathise but at least you didn't spend £180 on the piece of ! OK it was about 4 years ago but in that time I've had it repaired about 7 times (no kidding - I don't like waste so kept thinking 'this time it will be better' probably spent over 200 on the thing in all) and have to spend 40 minutes every month or so pulling hairs out of the damn thing. Don't even get me started on cleaning the filter.

My advice to you -dump it now.

PiratePanda thanks for the tip, I'm being slowly won over to Miele but all reviewers keep going on about how expensive the bags are. How much are we talking? Our gas bill has just gone up to £120/month Shock so I don't want to be forking out a packet for vacuum cleaner bags too!

Countrywalks · 08/01/2014 14:37

Btw I would go for Henry as Dyson sounds like a sucker !

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 14:38

Maryz don't tell your mum! Seriously, just get rid. It won't completely break, ours never did. It will just be completely and utterly useless as a hoover and take up space.

wigwam33 · 08/01/2014 14:40

Countrywalks definitely Henry over Dyson (for baby name) although personally wouldn't go for either!

Sorry to mess up your thread ! Haven't had a Henry but have had a Dyson , hated cleaning out the plastic bit that collects the fluff . Now have a Sebo, it's brilliant , a good sucker and flattens to run under sofas or beds . Would buy again. I think it's about 8 years old and going strong .

HeinzDoofenshmirtz · 08/01/2014 14:49

Dyson Animal cylinder

it's twenty hundred times better than a standard Dyson, and practically does the job by itself. I may be exaggerating a little.

But it is great.

And I have a Labrador.

Countrywalks · 08/01/2014 14:50

And ten bags cost £9.99 should last a year ! Hope that doesn't reveal my sluttish housekeeping ways or perhaps it's because we are such lovely clean people ! Ha!

Countrywalks no worries it has made me smile lots today! And just for the record, I like the name Henry but it doesn't work with our surname (hence why I wouldn't go for it). OK £1/bag doesn't sound too bad but I guess it depends on how often you have to empty/replace. I hoover our hallway 2-3times a week as it has a carpet (could really do with being done every day but I'm too lazy). I have to empty Dyson (when it's working HA!) once a week.

Maryz sounds like a good plan. It might save your marriage sanity.

Miele.
I wanted a Dyson for ages then got one and hated it!
Stupid shower of dust every time you empty it, that required vacuuming up again, and having to pull out a load of hair wound around inside.

I buy Miele bags on Amazon 4 for £8 ish, but have had 12 for £18. I get the official ones as they come with replacement filters. You can get cheaper unofficial ones but not sure if they are any good. I use roughly a bag a month.
