Does anyone have 2 dishwashers? Does it work?

We'll be getting a new kitchen and I'm hoping to get 2 slimline dishwashers. Mainly to not have to keep emptying. We're a family of 5 and our current full size goes on 2 or 3 times every day.

Any thoughts? Thanks

We don't have space, family of 4 and our machine is full by the end of the day. Large things have to be hand washed as no space so could def fill 2

We have only had one meal today but that was x1 saucepan for porridge, x4 bowls, x4 spoons, x1 saucepan for boiled eggs, x4 small spoons, x4 egg cups, x4 plates, x4 glasses, x1 knife, x2 tea cups.
We were only up and in house 90 mins, half dishwasher is already full. I will make some soup for lunch so will have another pan/ more bowls and cutlery, and then proper dinner this eve with whatever mess that creates

Not so, your not washing pans or glasses, that's a load a day here.

We cook from scratch so that's lots of pans, I have a dw so that I don't have to wash lazy

Just muddling, I don't think you were being pious.
I'll be pious.
You've recently had that awful storm season in uk and there's an unprecedented deep freeze in North America, how much will it take to realise there is an environmental problem and you need to do something about it?
It's the rich people who can afford these things who can most afford to do something, and who can make the biggest difference. And who, currently, generally, aren't.
There. Said it. Number of times I've bitten my tongue...

I cook from scratch too Pumkin I just find it easier to wash up pans as I go along. My deep sauté pan that I use for most things I season so it doesn't go in the dishwasher.
Glasses come out of the dishwasher feeling weird and they smell funny so I wash those by hand.
It's not really a full load though unless it's a roast. The DC are assigned a cup or glass and use that all day for drinks the older two rinse or wash their own if they wish, and I rinse the little ones.

Well said SleepPlease

Lucylouby · 10/01/2014 18:57

Sleeppleasesleep, I agree.

justmuddlingalongsomehow · 10/01/2014 21:20

Thanks for that post SleepPleaseSleep. I couldn't agree more.

I have no problem with anyone objecting on environmental grounds to two dishwashers (though it might be more sensible to object to the way more common and polluting two cars or three + children)

It was the rather passive aggressive "#firstworldproblem" that I object to.

95% of my problems are first world problems, living as I do in the affluent first world. On the flipside I have neither two dishwashers, two cars or three + children, indeed even my child is recycled so I will donate some of my carbon offset to OP if she chooses to have a second dishwasher on condition that she doesn't wash her dishes any more often than they need to be washed. In that case the only drain on the worlds resources will be the cost of the second dishwasher.

MichaelFinnigan · 10/01/2014 22:02

We're looking at new kitchens at the mo. boring cupboard / draw base unit cabinet things are a good few £100 each. I might just have rows of dishwashers instead. As you say, cupboards that wash stuff

MichaelFinnigan · 10/01/2014 22:15

Oooooo amazingly terrible cross post Blush

MichaelFinnigan · 10/01/2014 22:18

Or indeed a thorn twig

who needs more time in the cowshed with the dumb beasts

Kewcumber · 10/01/2014 22:19

and go flog yourself with said mop.

I can be smug as I have the lowest carbon footprint of any of you (unless any of you are vegetarians with no children in which I doff my hat to you)

Sleepwhenidie · 10/01/2014 23:22

Sorry, I'm still not getting the argument....

article 1

Plenty, plenty more where that came from too, just google. Seriously, there are easier things to go at on MN than dishwashers if you want a fight about excessive consumption and carbon footprints Confused!

Kewcumber · 10/01/2014 23:29

and children are about the most excessive consumption you can get! The world doesn't need more children. There are loads of spare ones already - and they're cheaper (upfront) than a dishwasher. Though I concede the running costs are a bit higher.

Family of 5 and one slimline dishwasher we run twice a day on the quick cycle. I dream of a full size dishwasher but not enough room!

Bollard · 10/01/2014 23:56

I'd never heard of this (apart from in a strictly kosher household) but I've just got back from visiting people in the US who had 2 dishwashers. If I had room I'd definitely do it. There wasn't that skanky stack of dirty plates on the counter waiting for the dishwasher cycle to finish.
