I bought an Indesit washer/dryer 18 months ago and it's rubbish!!
I bought a tumble dryer so now I just want a decent washer.
Any recommendations?

Buy a cheap one without a computer that can be replaced when it goes wrong or go the the other extent and get a Miele or a Bosch one and pay the extended warranty - hats what the guy who cam to fix me crap Hotpoint said (he also said never get a hotpoint or a hoover and having both of those over the years I tend to agree!!)

Oh and use a wash bag for smallss as he said other than bath mat pieces he pulls more bra wires and kids socks from pumps than anything else!!!

MissyCocker · 24/07/2006 12:43

ditto the Indeshit blunder.
Have just invested in a Miele with 5 yrs parts and labour warranty. Will never tire of non-crumpledness of clothes and the absence of weekly breakdowns, usually only solved by a good kicking.
The miele is pricey though, my sisters' zanussi seems to be alright.

Tutter · 24/07/2006 12:44

my bosch has never let me down

Xena · 24/07/2006 12:47

our bosch is great I bought it from comets internet site and made about £100 saving

Kaloo20 · 24/07/2006 12:48

Miele anything

aitch71 · 24/07/2006 12:56

siemens, aeg and bosch are all made by the same manufacturer so in some ways there's not much between them, i was told.
it's worth paying a bit more as the cheaper ones are made in china and according to the siemens guy who came out to fit our cooker are 'pish'. the more expensive ones are manufactured in germany, apparently.
caused a bit of a panic in our house but was allowed to depart after declaring our white goods teutonic in every way.
PS we previously had a 'technik', aka 'the people's Neff'. not my choice. utter keech.

Han4Dan · 24/07/2006 16:52

cece · 24/07/2006 16:53

got it online from kitchenscience.co.uk I think it was. they were also very good.

Han4Dan · 24/07/2006 16:53

oh pants GrRRRR it's a bosch anyways.

SenoraPostrophe · 24/07/2006 16:54

I ahve an aeg and it's brill. and I've always previously rented houses with washers in them so i've tried a few!

MumRum · 24/07/2006 16:59

I brought a zanussi last year and I'm really pleased with it. It has a 1500 spin and a large drum for a 5kg load... It has a filter so you can drain it or clear out all the gunge if its not spinning properly....

TooTicky · 24/07/2006 17:00

Zanussi Electrolux Jetsystem Progress 1600 6kg. Very good and green too.

SenoraPostrophe · 24/07/2006 17:00

oooh yes, also get someone to balance it properly. dh did this one (usually they're just in the house) and you can barely hear the spin. brill. it's almost enough to make me want to wash more often.

crazydazy · 25/07/2006 11:09

Great I have just got an Indesit washer/dryer.

kittywits · 25/07/2006 11:30

Bosch. IMO the are the best. Mine is on 4 times every day and works like a trooper!

Bugsy2 · 25/07/2006 12:23

Mine is a John Lewis own brand, made in Germany. Very pleased with it. Simple, easy to use & very effective spin.

Gingerbear · 25/07/2006 12:28

Miele all the way. Mum's is over 20 yrs old and still going strong, ours is 6 yrs old and still good as new.

camera · 25/07/2006 12:33

miele - its great

speedymama · 25/07/2006 12:53

I have had an Electra washing machine since 1993. I have only called out the engineer once when the motor finally gave up the ghost 3 years ago. Excellent machine. I think the model is the AWM800.

petunia · 25/07/2006 13:07

Miele- my parents have just bought one of their washing machines. Def would not recommend anything by Hoover. (I've got a 6yr old washer/dryer and I've had to replace the door twice because the hinge isn't strong enough to take the weight of the door).

Squarer · 25/07/2006 13:09

another vote for Bosch. My mum has an AEG which is also german and 15 years old - needed a bit of attention recently as it is on 2 or 3 times a day these days, and the repair man told my mum to buy a Bosch if she was going to replace it.

trix1 · 25/07/2006 13:20

Do not buy a Hotpoint - especially if it has plastic inserts in the drum they come off regulare - tear your washing and cost a fortune to keep replacing. I would never buy another hotpoint thing again.

Ive found Zanussi to be very good over the years (only reason I had the hotpoint was because when buying it I needed stock machine could not wait for a week for another branc to come into stock)

Prufrock · 25/07/2006 13:26

LG Direct drive. Mears recommended it on here and I bought mine a year ago and love it - 1600rpm, 7kg load in a normal sized box and really quiet. Child lock, delay, handwash and timesave programme.
