So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

I am so fed up of illness. DD2 (7) had a migraine this morning :( I think she had one a while ago but I brushed it off as a bug. This was classic. Awful head, shakes, vomit. 30 mins later absolutely fine. I get them but was hoping my kids wouldnt be afflicted....she seems so young.

I have guests with a baby coming tomorrow and my house is a mess and not babyproof. I want kids and dh to help but they are currently all playing with new nerf guns Hmm

Happy Birthday Engels Cake

CallingAllEngels · 02/01/2014 16:12

Ta da
Cellar walls cleaned
Undercoat on
Outside bin emptied

To do today...

write a shopping list for tomorrow
write a to do list for tomorrow

DH is doing dinner. I think I'll put on some Doctor Who (on my last David Tennant series..am worried I won't like Matt Smith as in interviews he comes across as soooooo irritating!)

GoingGoingGoth · 02/01/2014 16:18

Opps Blush HAPPY BIRTHDAY ENGELS

Done
Dry laundry away
Walk, feed ducks & squirrels
Quick shop at Morrisons
Recycled Christmas cards
Lunch
2 loads laundry on
Made 2 furry hot water bottle covers
Vacuumed through flat

GoingGoingGoth · 02/01/2014 16:20

Xpost Engles I'm sure you'll like Matt Smith, I wasn't sure when he first started but he's so different it works. Even DD likes him and she was devastated when DT left.

Aliama · 02/01/2014 16:29

ta da

Finished making beds
Cleaned bedroom windows
Dusted skirtings in bedrooms
Unstacked dishwasher and stacked with the remaining dirty dishes

Made a start on a batch of bread. James morton's cholesterol lowering bread. Oats and seeds are currently soaking. I'm going to parbake and freeze one of the loaves... And ooh, is it tragic to get excited that a bread bin I've ordered should be turning up tomorrow? No more bread left out on the counter to go stale and mouldy. That, AND the Brabantia twin bin I've wanted for ages. Thrilling.

EustaciaVye · 02/01/2014 18:24

I have a duo bin. I heart it Grin

Does anyone know how to get print off sweatshirt type materials, its the type of print that splits when washed and dried in tumble dryer for about 2 years, its just that my lovely nan was a little short sighted when buying ds1 a onsie which is grey with a massive pink LOVE on, needless to say, he's a little conscious of wearing it.

Off to slimming world in a few, tbh I'm really looking forward to getting away for a couple of hours, the boys have drove me a little crazy today, and it'll be nice to not be constantly asked for things or to do things, or to just purposely come out of the room/house to sulk at me because he didn't like something or something wasn't done immediately, or to have to remind someone that their behaviour needs checking as they are not being fair, or explaining that just because they ate half of something they don't like for tea, doesn't then mean they can get away with leaving the rest of it, esp if they expect pudding...sorry ranting on now, its just been one of those days.

MercuryRising · 02/01/2014 19:19

I am planning a ridiculously early night with a book once the dc are im bed as last night has caught up with me and I have lots of work to do tomorrow. I just wanted to pop on quickly and say Happy Birthday Engels I will catch up with you all tomorrow.

andagiraffeinapineappletree · 02/01/2014 19:27

happy birthday engels

Right need to catch up but today I have assembled some ikea storage for ds and mostly sorted his room = it looks very smart for a box room!

dizzyday07 · 02/01/2014 19:47

Happy Birthday Engels.

We are back home! Things still frosty between DH and me but that is my doing so I suppose I need to just get over it and trudge on a before.

Ta Da

  • Picked up bits for tea and brekkie
  • Bags unpacked and clean clothes put away
  • Wet towels rinsed and hung to dry
  • Dirty laundry sorted into piles and first load in
  • Dinner made
  • Swimming bag sorted as its early morning training for DD tomorrow (gala on Sunday!)

Need to check cupboards/fridge/freezer and write shopping list for next weeks meals

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/01/2014 19:54

Evening all :)

Have done most of my evening routine, just need to tidy up the toys once I've finished watching this episode of ER :)
I did the mission for today and all the things I said I was going to do earlier, so feel like it's been quite a productive day today, not bad for the second day of the year :o

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/01/2014 20:01

Just had a look at the mission for tomorrow, I'm pleased to say it will take all of about 2 seconds because that's what I had a major sort out of on Tuesday :o Will have to get cracking with the detailed cleaning instead Hmm Or I could just take the DC out to soft play, to stop them trashing the house :o

DontstepontheBaubles · 02/01/2014 20:59

Happy birthday Engles Cake Flowers

My ta da list is pretty poor actually. I filled the car up, ran it through car wash, hoovered it and dusted inside and cleaned the windows inside. It was gross after my road trip to Scotland with the DCs. I went to the post office today and dropped a small bag off of shoes and books to one of those Oxfam charity bin thingys and the rest of the day I have caught up on e-mails and done a lot of admin but it's not exactly fly lady stuff is it? Blush

After 2 glasses of wine now, I seriously doubt I'll do much more tonight.

RueDeWakening · 02/01/2014 21:00

Happy birthday Engels!

I've not done much today, but have de-decorated the tree (is that even a word? :o ) ready to take it down tomorrow, shined the sink again, and DH has been out to buy a bookcase to go in DS1's bedroom which should help with the whole collapsing tower of books thing he has going on. And played with DD's Lego castle that she got for Christmas.

I'm having serious trouble getting stuff done with a teething baby - he's really miserable and just wants to be cuddled all day.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/01/2014 21:26

Happy Birthday Engels

Done nothing today! The dc slept in really late so we had a quick brunch then went out for the rest if the day.

House feels really cold tonight - far too cold to go into the kitchen & clean the sink

Also I don't have a dining room so can't really do today's mission!

Out early tomorrow taking dd to a 'get back in shape for the new term' ballet class

GoingGoingGoth · 02/01/2014 21:30

Updated Done
Dry laundry away
Walk, feed ducks & squirrels
Quick shop at Morrisons
Recycled Christmas cards
Lunch
3 loads laundry on
Made 2 furry hot water bottle covers
Vacuumed through flat
Dinner
Cleaned out fridge, washed shelves & veg basket
Washing up

Going to IKEA again tomorrow for more jars & boxes. DD is excited over her hot dog, and DH over meatballs Smile I have explained that shopping will be involved too.

Sillybillybob · 02/01/2014 21:33

Happy birthday Engels

Baubles admin is still clutter. One of the baby steps is to delete Flylady's emails!

Ta-da:
shiny sink 2 days in a row
Cleaned hob
Laundry reboot
Emptied and refilled dishwasher
Cleaned sick bowls
Cleaned downstairs toilet
Washing up (and put away)
Cleared down kitchen sides
Mop kitchen floor
Half day at work - phew!

Ridiculously pleased to have kept a shiny sink!

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/01/2014 22:20

Envy At Goth going to Ikea, I bloody love that place. We live two hours from our nearest though Sad

DontstepontheBaubles · 02/01/2014 22:27

That's good to know sillybob I deleted a lot of e-mails today and filed others in specific folders. I'm way behind on admin though still Blush

GoingGoingGoth · 02/01/2014 22:29

Whispers we used to live about 2 hours from IKEA, the novelty still hasn't worn off even after a year of living closer

Just laughing at Rab C Nesbitt, been spotting the local landmarks (and coos)

pushmepullyou · 02/01/2014 22:31

Happy birthday engels Cake Flowers Wine

Can someone please give me a kick up the bum and remind me that we are not aiming for perfection? Blush. I am getting ridiculously stressed feeling that i need to have a deep clean of the entire house done before I get back to work on Monday. I have spent 6 hours cleaning the kitchen (although it is lovely now) and i really need to declutter in the living room as we don't have room for the million and one toys at the moment. Then there're the DCs' rooms. And the bathroom......

I know I am being ridiculous - think it is because the work emails have started today and I'm getting very stressed with the thought of going back. I want to enjoy the last few days with the DC and not stress about housework but I am not dong very well with it!

MerryBuddha · 02/01/2014 22:32

A very later start to the day again. Followed by morning routine, and 4 lots of washing up and drying up.

Went to see Frozen with the dcs. Great film, both dc and I love it.

Completed Evening routine as well, Smile so sink is shiny and kitchen is cleared!!!

In trying to teach our teenager independents, he is in charge of his own laundry. Every day this week, I have mentioned I think he should lay out (or pack) the clothes he wants to take on holiday (knowing the majority are dirty and need washing). So I lay here tonight, trying very hard, to not let it bother me that they are still in his laundry basket, or on the floor, even though he leaves in 2 days time. [gritting teeth icon].

We are ice skating in the morning, so I will have to get up early, which will be a shock to the system.

Night all!!
