So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

Hello all!

I over exerted myself a bit today by going on a long walk to Aldi for some kettle bells and lugging them home in my backpack. Feel quite good but a bit spaced out Grin

Mini ta da:

One beautiful shining sink

Back tomorrow.

pushmepullyou · 08/01/2014 22:01

Evening all Smile

Hope all the poorly DC are feeling better. Meant to do the mission today but have lost the will!

Otherwise keeping on top of things reasonably well flying-wise. Not so well work, school and life-wise but hey you can't have everything!

General wave in the direction of everybody Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/01/2014 22:12

Evening all,

DS definitely not better, but no worse either, he has been lying around in bed most of the day, either that or on the sofa, hardly eaten a thing and just keeps moaning that he feels ill. No temp, sickness etc though. So, I've been at home all day, but subject to quite a lot of interruption from calls from upstairs, poor mite.

However, in between that I have had a thorough blitz of our middle downstairs room (Victorian terrace) which includes the understairs cupboard and a big throw out, the cupboard is all organised, the room looks neater than it has in ages and I have a car full of stff for charity shop/tip. Finally been able to put away all Christmas presents too. I have also started getting my tax return paperwork together. I'll be going to work tomorrow instead of today, DH will work at home if DS is still ill. I can hear moaning from upstairs, better go, night night.

Swanhildapirouetting · 08/01/2014 22:43

The stew was cooling in the garden, of course Grin I had put it there two days ago. TBH it had not improved Hmm

further dones
uniform out for tomorrow
PE kit out for tomorrow (ds1 is getting good at organising this, and so is dd, without reminding Shock
watched Dr Who with Ds2 (Donna episode - I am missing D Tennant now! He has such a sweet expression when he is not destroying aliens)
cleaned kitchen
hoovered kitchen
hoovered hall
new cat litter
bought cereal
posted a letter
fell asleep on the sofa before Dr Who
fed children with stew
chatted to children
spellings with ds2
ds1 did his homework properly (history now - he claims he's done his English)
washed sheepskin slippers

remade ds2 bed
swept utility room floor

Toffee would it make a difference if he went in a bit later in the morning to school, to break the association for him with waking up and feeling anxious, also for you, you must be feeling the worry of trying to get him out the house just when you are dealing with Ds2. TBH they surely can't blame him for finding it difficult this week when his father has just had his appendix out etc etc?

Dh has just been very annoying - he seems to be a nervous wreck when he is making money Hmm He refuses to discuss any plans atm, holidays, reorganisation, children. Which would be fine except he was the same in the holidays, and kept saying he wasn't in the mood for boring convos until the middle of January...when he is conveniently going on a work trip...Hmm

Merrybuddha · 08/01/2014 22:47

Ta da
15 minutes crisis clean in kitchen x2
Laundry put away 15 minutes x2
Stripped my bed
Added headboard
Remade
W/m x2
D/w x2
Dog walk
School run
Made roast dinner, with very successful homemade yorkshires
Dealt with preteen meltdown (45 minutes of moaning) keep my cool -- self pat on my back)
15 minutes laundry

Going to bed with a untidy kitchen, not a shiny sink and without making the packed lunches! But preteen took my will to live!! So sat in a zombie like state in front of Night Sky live and then went on to read a massive chunk of Jo Nesbo's Police.

BitchytheGreat · 08/01/2014 22:47

tbh swan i'd be tempted to go "oh that's fine dear, i'll make the decisions then. You'll just go along with what's planned if you would rather not discuss it first" But i am impatient and grumpy.

Urm I am also going to have to name change as ds is still fucking reading over my shoulder and I am about to start locking the door to my room again so he gets the point about privacy. i allow him privacy and he will bloody respect mine and i don't give a fuck what happens at his dad's this is what happens here

Evening all

I did over 12,000 steps done today and am back on MFP, 2nd fast day tomorrow. So much for DH joining me with the fast.

Fairly successful trip to dentist, DD is going to going to have 2 teeth removed so the overcrowding is eased. It's not ideal but at the moment her teeth are coming through very crooked. Luckily she likes our dentist so isn't frightened.

Then I was at the planning meeting for this term's Woodcraft (my first time) so I'm down for assisting at 4 nights, badge making, Chinese New Year, banner making and Potions! It's science experiments really, but we thought the children would find potions more exciting.

Will do some flying tomorrow.

ToffeeWhirl · 08/01/2014 23:25

Swan - er, was it safe to eat after two days in the garden?

DS1 starts at the learning centre half an hour later than school already and they are very understanding if he's later than that. I think they're just glad if he's made it in at all.

Just settling DS1 to bed. He has just watched 'The Bridge' with us and loved it. I forgot how much I loved the female detective with her AS characteristics.

BitchytheGreat · 08/01/2014 23:35

but surely added slugs would have just increased the flavour toffee HmmGrin has fond memories of daring sister to eat all sorts of horrible stuff when she was a kid

I suppose I should post the links.

I have done b*gger all today so will make up for it tomorrow!

Ta Da

  • Managed to get out of bed reasonably OK on my post-running legs!
  • 2 x school runs as forgot DD's PE trousers (luckily school is 300m away)
  • Pushed DD's "stuff" to the outside edges of the lounge
  • DD to swimming - and she got all embarrassed when her coach told everybody about her silver medal
  • Made tea
  • Filled and put on D/W
  • Washed and hung to dry a pile of DD's outgrown clothes I've sold

Tomorrow Today is running again which I'm dreading already

EustaciaVye · 09/01/2014 06:28

WhispersOfWickedness · 09/01/2014 06:38

WhispersOfWickedness · 09/01/2014 06:58

Sillybillybob · 09/01/2014 08:46

Limited flying here currently, though laundry reboot like there's no tomorrow - DD commend over every piece of remotely clean bedding last night so I get a day off work today to be covered in sick. Lucky me.

BitchytheGreat · 09/01/2014 09:15

MN crashed last night. running seriously seriously late. you challenge today is to figure out how to use this and Don't sign up to anything on the site good luck...

Well, I have been rubbish lately. Nothing achieved yesterday, except to make a start on a batch of bread - a recipe which uses up bits of stale bread from the bread bin. No excuses really, but I was exhausted. FIVE appointments his week, all day at hospital on Tuesday, and on top of that we have a leak in our roof, but all the roofers are booked solid. Clearly we're not the only ones. Hopefully the worst of the rain will stay away until we can get someone in. And the arsing bucket has been kicked down the stairs twice, once by dd, once by the cat. At least, dh blamed it on the cat.

Hopefully will get a bit more done today, but taking it a bit easy today, as I have an appt at a different hospital which isn't all that easy to get to. Two buses, and and hour and a half journey. Ugh, but m lovely dh has taken today and tomorrow off (for yet another fucking appointment, and it's not going to be a fun one), so at least I can do it all child free and read. Then it's just waiting for the results.

Ugh, sorry for the whining session.

At the very least today, I need to change the bedding, clean surfaces in kitchen, VERY quick living room tidy, make bread and stick in fridge to prove, laundry reboot.

giraffeseatpineapples · 09/01/2014 09:56

Bitchy that's great thanks I haven't seen launch page page before!Quite time consuming pressing all the buttons though decided to stop procrastinating and get on with tax...so I posted on here

GoingGoingGoth · 09/01/2014 10:06

Eusticia DD is 9 (although she's petit, looks about 7) I can honestly say she has a mouth full of teeth, and unfortunatly she's taken after my side of the family and has big teeth. (My dentist had to send away for larger rings to fit my molars when I had a brace) It was only after the visit last night that I realised just how bothered she was over her lower teeth, she's actually looking forward to having some removed!

Done
Beds
Packed lunch
Paperwork
Washing up
Laundry.

DH is working in the lounge today, so I'll just have to sit quietly and crotchet Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 09/01/2014 10:12

Aliamo - sorry about all your hospital appointments and the long journey involved. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Well, managed to get DS2 to school today, but DS1 is really feeling very unwell and it seems genuine, as he needed Calpol last night and he hates taking Calpol usually.

Cleaner is coming today, which is good timing as my Mum is coming for her delayed Christmas visit tonight. MIL has already been on the phone to say that she didn't sleep because she wasn't here with us Hmm.

To do

Put washing on
Load d/w
Sort Mum's stocking
Take returns to Post Office
Tidy up before cleaner gets here
Lunch
Clean alongside cleaner
DM here
School run
Evening with DM, dinner, etc.

sanschocolat · 09/01/2014 10:49

Hello lovely fledlings and 'Happy New Year' to everyone! Just staggering back belatedly to park my bucket and mop having had a lovely Christmas; and a good but demanding NY, with rather a lot of illness in between!

Before I forget - humungous thanks to Goth for being a totally fab thread leader last month with a record number of round-ups Thanks and to Bitchy for being brave enough to take on January! Thanks

And a very warm welcome to all newcomers and returnees!!

Have only skimmed the thread - will catch up properly later - so hope every one OK.

In the meantime though ...

Toffee have just seen what a horrible experience you have had - your poor dh (glad he is on the way to recovery) and poor you - having gone through something similar last summer, I would advise looking after yourself too as much as possible, because it is all such a shock to the system, and an incident like that shakes eveyrone's confidence a bit. (Not easy to take time out for yourself with poorly dc and visiting mothers and mil's though I know!) Hope you are bearing up and that ds2 feels better soon Thanks. And great that ds1 is getting back in to schooling gradually! That is very brave of him after everything that has happened!

Engels sorry to read that you are having such a tough time having to go back to the hospital too Thanks.

And hope all goes well with your appointments today Aliamo

Arf at Swan's garden stew! Grin I often used to put pans of soup outside on the kitchen step to get rained on cool down rapidly (covered with just a tea-towel) but stopped after one memorable incident when my inquisitive rabbits, in the process of investigation, dipped their long ears in it by mistake Grin Even dh couldn't bring himself to eat vichysoisse infused with rabbit ears!! [grin

Sorry to hear there are lots of ailing fleglings and dc on here too! Hope they all recover soon.

So sorry you are dealing with yet more puke Silly and hope your dd recovers soon.

Just I hope you are feeling considerably better than you were before Christmas (I still have a red nose to rival that of the Eddystone lighthouse btw!!) and the flood waters have been kept at bay ... .

Congrats to your dd Dizzy seriously brilliant to win a swimming medal and to have the discipline to train when everyone else is stuffing themselves with Christmas cake!

Very impressed you have made such an early start on your NY health regimen ¨Goth and good luck to your dd with the teeth extractions. DD in similar position here (10 yrs) too many teeth for her mouth.

sanschocolat · 09/01/2014 10:52

Argh, what happened, pressed 'post' to soon

That should have read 'vichyssoise' btw!

EustaciaVye · 09/01/2014 11:08

thanks goth. dd has a teeny mouth and has no room for new ones to come down, plus an underbite so I will see what they say

sanschocolat · 09/01/2014 11:12

Oh and btw - yes - it's me SC - should have started with that!! Posts as organised and properly sequential not as ever!! Grin

Whoknows dd has the very same bug as your ds by the sound of it. Hope he recovers soon!

Lovely news Nicknacks and great to 'see' you back! Ditto loads of returnees on here!!

Engels sorry - missed yr birthday - many, belated happy returns!! Wine

Sorry, no more time for personals (very depressing here today - barely light - raining - dd ill - me recovering - very demoralising start to school term) but huge waves to Castle Pushme Blue Feetheart CheerfulYank Giraffes Eustacia Whispers MerryB Humanordancer Doris Honu Alice Stillwearing Pluto Don'tsteponthemomeraths Chestnuts Elliepac Mercury Dizzy Lonelygoatherd Pictures Rudeawakening Gossip Fleebee Sally Lullabyte and anyone I've inevitably missed!

Anyone seen anything of PA btw?

Btw - have finally descended in to middle age - have just taken delivery of a shopping trolley and it's forward facing no less (dd is going to be so embarrassed!!) Grin it's not tartan though, promise!!!Grin

BBL!

sanschocolat · 09/01/2014 11:17

Eustacia/Goth dd has overcrowding and slight overbite. She has to have 3 or 4 teeth out by all accounts. She's even got one upper canine emerging in the gum above an already established tooth which makes her look slightly vulpine Grin in the nicest possible way!! (Brings new meaning to the phrase wolfish grin Grin)

Castle and others - meant to say - its's firmly back on MFP for me now! Have also been perusing weight watcher catalogues (sigh)
