So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

Buddha - laughing too, DS would love to perform that (but how are you going to explain the drug dealer bit?)
May show it to DH who is currently a Beavers Assistant leader but planning to do Cubs as well when DS goes up this term.

Haven't really caught up as been AWOL for a few days enjoying the final fling os the holidays and not doing much Flying. Did pick up your DH's drama Toffee. Hope he gets better soon but as someone else said, take care of yourself as well in amongst it all.

DC back to school today and once living room was hoovered and front door washed down (building work has left front garden grassless and heavy rain is bouncing it all over nice new white front door Angry. On positive side have used it to explain soil erosion to bemused DC :)) I have had to crack on with work in an attempt to catch up from the holidays. Will take a few days slog then it should calm down a bit

Whoknows - say hello to PA when you next chat, I miss her posts.

CheerfulYank - welcome back

Right, need food then more work.

BitchytheGreat · 07/01/2014 13:59

Feet Car dealer!! I did check before Christmas, that all the Cubs already knew of the song! So I am not asking them to listen to anything they haven't heard before ( I also did check that they had all had heard it at home). I am hoping this will be ok. Will probably send a message to parents first, so they can decide if they want their child to take part or not.

feetheart · 07/01/2014 14:46

Buddha - obviously age is affecting my hearing :)

Have had lunch then a call from our financial adviser who is popping round to get us to sign something (and to take a photo of our new 'feature' wall as he wants to do the same in his new house - trend setters here don't y'know :)) Cue quick panic-induced wash up and floor sweep rather than get stuck into more work - now have 15 mins to get as much work done as I can - eek!

feetheart · 07/01/2014 14:52

Buddha - have you seen this?

Merrybuddha · 07/01/2014 15:13

Feet Cubs - Always a minefield when doing something new. But its normally the most fun! To me that is what Cubs should be, fun and learning!

Whipsnade looks good, my younger ones would love that, I won't take them on a 5k yet! So a 2k would be brilliant! Have registered my interest.

Bitchy you will love it or hate it! but most importantly you have to stick to it Grin as in the end you will find something you love. Me personally, the sauna at the end of a session! Grin

Merrybuddha · 07/01/2014 15:15

Also Feet love that you had 15 minutes to do clear up before a visitor, but 7 minutes later you are still on MN!! Grin That's something I would do!!

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2014 15:33

Afternoon all :)

Hi to Cheerful Yank :)

Considering I had a terrible night's sleep (thanks DD Hmm ), I have managed to keep on top of things so far. Done morning routine, daily bleurgh, 15 min in focus zone. Also done a mission, but it is one from later in the week, the washing the floor one, as I doubt I'd be able to get that done on a Friday when I have both DC at home and no TV!
Just got to work up the motivation to do my afternoon routine (put washing away, empty dishwasher) and possibly give fridge a wipe down before I go shopping tomorrow.
Ugh... 5 more minutes on the sofa... Wink

BitchytheGreat · 07/01/2014 15:36

Oh i love the sport but hate comps. and by the time i attempted the comp stuff not even once through i was wheezing like a old person. Hmm And to think 6months ago i could do this back to back 3 or so times Blush. It will be fine just needs practise. And some more freeze spray Grin

Buddha - B*gger, I've been rumbled :o
Maybe this is why I have been on this thread for 4 years and still don't live in a show home!

BitchytheGreat · 07/01/2014 17:41

hush up Feetheart. us longtermers have perfected things that are undefinable. Wink

Swanhildapirouetting · 07/01/2014 17:52

as usual have done the opposite of what I intended.

done
completely reorganised dd's room as per plan we drew up in hols (looks more grownup now Smile although less floor space for playing (which she doesn't do now, she chats instead Smile

two loads of washing
three loads of dry washing put in the right rooms
hoovered dd's room
dusted window frames in her room
put a big pile of stuff downstairs and vice versa
decluttered Christmas cards so that I am reminded whom to send them to next year (put in Christmas hamper upstairs, which is coming in very useful for odds and sods I keep finding Christmas related)

Dh bought the pork, so now I had better cook supper
everyone seems fine after school, although dd is being very loud again Hmm

BitchytheGreat · 07/01/2014 18:09

Could someone do me a huge favour and post the links for me. there has been a bit of a meds mix up here and urm. yeah. No damage but will have to see you tomo. Blush

OP posts:
Merrybuddha · 07/01/2014 18:25

I would but don't know how too, sorry Bitchy. Hope all is ok.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/01/2014 18:35

I'll do it later Bitchy.

CallingAllEngels · 07/01/2014 18:35

Quick ta da, sorry for lack of personals

Work
2 planning/marking things ticked off my huge list
Washing up
Made lunch for tomorrow
Restock DS nursery bag
Fold 2 lots of washing and put away
Sort out which toys are too babyish now for DS and bag up for loft (still need to clean/take out batteries)
Sorted DS's puzzles into bags and in a new box
Laid out outfit for tomorrow

Grrrrr...said to DH at dinner that I would like to do some work and maybe I could do it either after dinner or when DS is in bed. he says fine and mutters something about wanting to reshave his head as it's grown back very quickly, then disappears upstairs for a fecking hour (hence why I managed to get so much on my ta da list when I've been at work all day). He tried to do his hair himself even though I told him he needs to get a new electric trimmer/shaver as the one we have is rubbish. Well, he ignored me and now his hair looks really stupid, so I'm going to have to do it in a minute when he comes down from putting DS to bed and I STILL haven't had a chance to do my work. GRRRRR!

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2014 18:59

Hope you're ok, Bitchy!

Engels - that sounds annoying! And totally like something my DH would do. My most memorable fishwife impression came about when we were due to have visitors arrive later that day, the house was a proper shithole and I said I needed his help to get it vaguely presentable. No problem, he said. Half an hour later, I located him tidying up in the garage HmmAngry As if our guests were going to be looking in there!!! Confused

CallingAllEngels · 07/01/2014 19:21

Okay, hair finished. 20.20 here and no way I'm starting schoolwork so late or my head will be spinning when I go to bed and I won't be able to sleep. Angry

Time for Wine I think. Lots of Wine

humanordancer · 07/01/2014 19:34

Buddha, we have a visitor. It chews paper, and I have stolen its acorn Sad . So on my list under squirrels is general monitoring of the wildlife and badgering of the freeholder to replace missing roof tile. I feel dreadful about the acorn.

Hope you're alright Bitchy

Ta da

Made bed
Groceries, made it to Aldi for a stock up
Walk
Finance admin
Mission
15 min declutter
Hot spot - did kitchen cupboards not desk (small kitchen)
Threw lots of useless things away
Laundry (in dryer)

To do

Cook dinner
Wash up
Tree

Trying hard not to be too perfectionist. It's a hard balance to strike!

humanordancer · 07/01/2014 19:35

Engels how irritating!

ToffeeWhirl · 07/01/2014 20:12

Whispers - sorry, but that's very funny about your DH tidying up the garage before visitors Grin.

Engels - But that's just irritating! Poor you.

DH is on the mend, so we thought MIL would be going home now - but she seems to have settled in nicely Hmm. We don't have the heart to ask her to go yet. She says she sleeps better here than at her own home.

I walked DS1 to the learning centre this morning, then met him for lunch in a cafe afterwards. He had been really nervous on the way in, but came out all bright-eyed and happy. He'd had a really good chat with one of the other pupils and also had some good lessons. It's been a boost to his confidence, so, hopefully, he'll be ok to go in tomorrow. He hasn't visited the school for lessons yet, because he's too daunted, but I'm just happy he's going into the centre.

Not a lot of Flying done today, mainly because it's hard to charge around this little house when there are lots of people in it. I gave up trying to do anything in the end.

Merrybuddha · 07/01/2014 21:32

Engels you are a much nicer person than me, I would of left him with the crap hairstyle Grin.

Humanordancer Better a squirrel than a rat! lol!!!

Hubby bought me a wireless keyboard to use with my ipad, its very annoying at the moment as the M's and N's don't work when I am normally typing only just when you thump them, so I have had to go over everything, typing in all the M & N's. [annoyed]

Finally heard from Skiing DC (I did contact the college) he is having so much fun that he hadn't gotten around to sending me a message. Sounds great, very Envy.
